Fox’s drama Gang Related will not be coming back as the network has opted not to renew the undercover drama for a second season. Originally slated for a midseason launch, the action series starring Ramon Rodriguez was given a summer berth instead.

"Wow, never saw that coming." - No one
ReplyDeleteI saw the word Canceled first, like always, and thought we finally got an announcement about Defiance. Thank God it's just this.
ReplyDeleteI expect there'll be more summer TV cancellations coming within the next month or so from USA. Both new USA shows (Rush, Satisfaction) and also possibly Royal Pains as well as Graceland. The ratings for all these shows are terrible.
ReplyDeleteDAMN!
ReplyDeleteDon't say that. You'll send bad vibes out into the universe. I love Rush and Graceland.
ReplyDeleteI knew this would happen, its why I didn't start it Yet, I guess now there is no point(right).
ReplyDeleteNot a surprise. The show was good though.
ReplyDeleteI haven't been watching Rush, but I've found Satisfaction to be a pleasant surprise. Graceland is good, too.
ReplyDeleteI would be seriously bummed if they cancelled Graceland. I happen to like the show.
ReplyDeleteWhat a shame. After the iffiness of the first two or three episodes, Gang Related actually ended up being pretty good. It was definitely one of summer tv's highlights for me. I actually found myself looking forward to each new episode.
ReplyDeleteI pretty much figured it'd be cancelled due to its poor ratings. Creatively, the show was totally fine. Some of the actors were eh, but the writing and overall production standards were impressive, especially for a primetime network summer show.
I can't help but feel that Gang Related would've faired better had Fox tried this nifty little thing called advertising. This is one of those cases where it seems like a network changed their minds on a show too late and them set it up for failure. Had it been marketed even just a bit more, and made known to the Sons of Anarchy audience, I imagine we'd be reading about a renewal right now.
Most people who do watch it are quite fond of it. The problem is there isn't a whole lot of people tuning in. There's even less than last season and S1 ratings were borderline.
ReplyDeleteI don't know, your mom was probably getting banged by Fox producer's or something
ReplyDeleteThis show was actually good
ReplyDeleteBecause it takes more than to season to blow up... You think the NFL became what it was after only one season?
ReplyDeleteIt was a good season... Worth watching
ReplyDeleteWas a great show..
ReplyDeleteDamn you Fox!
It does not take more than one season for a lot of shows to "blow up" and television networks don't have that kind of patience or willingness to throw more cash at a show that doesn't have sustainable ratings out of the gate because the ratings of most shows only go down after the premiere, not up.
ReplyDeleteWell why would ratings go up if everyone knows FOX acts like bitches and don't wanna support the network? This show was a summer show in don't know if that has anything to do with it but I'm sure money is not the issue. Networks make billions of dollars.
ReplyDeleteFOX has earned their crappy reputation and it's up to them to fix it but they're not going to do that by continuing to support a consistently low-rated show.
ReplyDeleteThat's true indeed but from what i read they could have promoted more. This show was about arresting the bad people and offered lots of solutions to real life situations and had a postive influence on me this summer but hey... can't win em all
ReplyDeleteWe all saw this coming, it was a good series to watch but didn't really get me hooked.
ReplyDeleteDamn...John Locke doesnt have any luck.... :-(
ReplyDeleteWhat the hell is this comment? o.O
ReplyDeleteLol...
ReplyDeleteSorry, not funny at all.
ReplyDeleteNiether was your lame ass "What took so long?" comment
ReplyDeleteThat wasn't my comment. Regardless, the point is your comment was offensive, unlike @laura3341's.
ReplyDeleteSue me
ReplyDeleteNot effective. I reported your comment though, that should do it :) and nope, deleting whatever it is you wrote won't work. Have a lovely evening!
ReplyDeleteBye Snitch 😊
ReplyDeleteI appreciate Fox trying to create a year round schedule of scripted shows but clearly its not ready to work yet and Gang Related became a casualty of a very late mid-season premiere.
ReplyDeleteWell I´m not surprised, but I liked the show.
ReplyDeletethis show is good. for me.. actually i've watch all the episode
ReplyDeleteWith White Collar also ending soon I don't think USA will cancel everything, especially since ratings are almost the same for everyone of their shows (Suits excluded). Satisfaction is going for sure imo, but I'm thinking they might give Graceland and Rush another chance.
ReplyDelete*lights a candle for Rush*
ReplyDeleteI'm curious, what is the gist of what he said? Something to do with race?
ReplyDeleteLet's say he offended her mother.
ReplyDeleteTotally saw it coming. The ratings sucked and the show was pretty bad, too.
ReplyDeleteWhy? The ratings were bad so FOX cancelled it.
ReplyDeleteIf a show isn't giving the network any profit, then it's going to get cancelled. Simple as that.
ReplyDeleteFOX doesn't care what rank it had compared to show on other networks. If a show is not making them any money, it will get cancelled. That was what happened with Almost Human too.
ReplyDeleteShows also get cancelled if networks believe they will make more money with other, new shows. Remember that there is only so much money (and timeslots) for networks to invest in shows, so it's all about managing resources.
ReplyDeleteImagine that Almost Human was making them $1M. If they thought that Gotham would make them $3M they would still cancel Almost Human. Obviously it's not as simple as this and I am not suggesting AH was cancelled for Gotham but you get the idea.
You cannot compare ratings from shows airing in different months of the season since the overall ratings decline a lot as you move from fall to spring so it is generally unreasonable to expect a show to post the same numbers in the fall and in the spring. Because The Following aired until later in the spring than AH, you cannot make that comparison the way you are wanting to do it.
ReplyDeleteFurthermore, The Following was a sophmore so it always has more cushion than a freshman. The reason is that the audience for sophmore shows is usually much more defined already and less likely to disappear from one season to the other. So if you had two shows with the exact same ratings but one being a freshman and the other a sophmore the freshman would get the axe, everything else being constant.
I didn't see his comment to me until 2 minutes ago. Glad i wasn't around i probably would have gone off on him and he isn't worth it. Thanks for having my back!
ReplyDeleteI hope he was banned.
Yes Almost Human aired in the fall before The Following; but 24: LAD aired later in the spring than The Following, and did much better.
ReplyDelete"Furthermore, The Following was a sophmore so it always has more cushion

Well how did that work out for Terminator :TSCC versus Dollhouse? The excuse that FOX gave then, was that TSCC had 2 seasons to prove itself, but DH had only the one. That very inconsistent with what you are saying.
And for the record, the man in charge of scripted programming last year at FOX, wanted to renew AH; but was overruled by executives higher up the food chain. It was one of the rumored reasons he left FOX.
You do have a point. It's sad to see the once-dominant USA Network resort to the "we can't cancel everything" method of programming like NBC has had to endure for years now. Luckily for the peacock network they're finally starting to break that vicious cycle.
ReplyDeleteWhatever....hater
ReplyDeleteNo surprise here.
ReplyDeleteSometimes it does take more than a season for shows to 'blow up', but that's only from good ratings to superb ratings. If a show doesn't have sustainable ratings in its first season, which Gang Related didn't, it'll never get a second.
ReplyDeleteDude, there's no reason to talk to people, the way you do. And that comment you made to InHighHeels about her mother, was way out of line. What are you twelve. I'll bet your mother would be ashamed, of the way you talk to women.
ReplyDeleteI liked Gang Related, but its numbers were abysmal. TV networks are a business, not a charity.
Now send Terry O'Quinn to Person of Interest, and give us that Bocke reunion!
ReplyDeleteFirst, you have to ignore everything that network executives say about what they "want" to do or what they "like". Judge them only based on their actual actions since everything else has a very high chance of being PR spin. So "FOX was very concerned about the ratings for 24" and "Executives renewed one show over the other because one had two seasons to prove itself", "wanted to renew Almost Human" are stuff that I ignore 100%.
ReplyDeleteWhen looking at the facts, sophomore shows always have the advantage over freshman when comes to renewals and cancellations, regardless of what network executives say. Furthermore (this doesn't apply to TF due to the limited seasons but applies to most of the other cases), sophmore shows also have more episodes which means they are closer to syndication, which is another powerful argument.
I don't disagree, that is the way it mostly goes. But Terminator: TSCC was a sophomore show, and Dollhouse was a freshman show. Yet with similar stats, FOX picked the latter. Which is why i said they were inconsistent.
ReplyDeleteI realize that they are a business, but sometimes it seems as though, someone high up has it in for science fiction, fantasy and horror series. Just look at their track record. They show episodes out of order, switch nights without advertising, even change the vision of the show's creator. Note they did keep Sleepy Hollow, but cancelling that would have been very stupid, it's their top rated scripted series.
I'm sure that 99% of what the execs say is spin. But the show's reviewer on TV. Com, had a source very close to the show. The head of programming was pushing hard for it's renewal. They were even trying to negotiate with WB, for a cheaper 2nd season. The Almost Human community knew all of this, before a decision was made to cancel it.
I have no confidence in FOX, they screwed me too many times. Ending shows i've gotten invested in 1 or 2 seasons on cliffhangers: Werewolf, Brimstone, Friday the 13th, War of the Worlds, Space Above and Beyond, Sliders, John Doe, Kindred the Embraced (though it was terrible imo), Point Pleasant, VR 5, Terminator: TSCC, Firefly, Dark Angel, Alien Nation, Millennium, Terra Nova, Tru Calling, The Adventures of Brisco County JR, Futurama, Alien Nation, and many more. Heck Alien Nation had such a following, that they made 5 tv movies to wrap up the story.
To bad i liked the show i hate when they drop a show after 1 season ...
ReplyDeleteWell, the finalle kinda felt like an ending and I can see why this dind't get more views so...but most of the cast was really great and I hope they get casted in other projects!
