Note: English is not my first language
I had the chance to meet Stephen Amell this week end at the Montreal Comiccon. I had my tickets for the Saturday night Meet and Greet with him and I had the chance to have him at my table for about only 6 minutes but he was sitting next to me which was pretty exciting for me. I had the chance to ask him 2 questions about the upcoming season 3. Stephen tried to answers my questions the best he could (He is really THE BEST) without giving to much away but here is what I got from him.
• At the beginning of the season (which is set 5 months after the season 2 finale), Olivier still doesn’t know where Thea is. He doesn’t know what she’s up to with Malcolm.
• In episode 3 he will go to find her. We will know in this episode what happened to Thea during those 5 months.
• Despite what happened between Thea and Roy at the end of season 2, the relationship between Roy and Oliver is in a pretty good place when the season begins. Stephen said the best scenes he did so far this season was with Colton.
• We can expect to see more changes in the Arrow costume during the season.
• Something BIG will happen at the end of episode 2. Stephen reaction when he read the script was “Can we do that?”
Believe me I wish I could had more time with him. It was anyway the highlight of my Comiccon this Week End. He is such a generous person and he signed a poster for all of us (we were around 100) even if he wasn’t supposed to.

Thanks !!!! Great spoilers! Thea's story will be quite interesting this season.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much!! I am so excited for Oliver going to get Thea. I hope they do justice to Roy this season. I want to know what is happening in episode 2. October needs to be here now.
ReplyDeleteWhen I told him I was disappointed we saw so little of Roy after he finds out about Oliver being the Arrow in season 2 he told me "Well he was in a coma for a bunch of time". Now that is is better we can expect to see him more.
ReplyDeleteSo we'll se Malcolm/Thea by episode 3? Damn
ReplyDeleteAs for the "Can we do that" moment by the end of episode 2, wich is titled "Sara" I expect that shocking thing to either be Saras death OR Sara doing something so questionable that Amell would say that...like killing a baby (Diggles, we've seen promo stills with him and his child, what if Corto Maltese is about Dig going after Sara who was sent back to Starling by Ra's to murder Harbinger)
Dig's baby is alive and kicking in ep 305 from the BTS pictures and the dig and baby photo posted here was from 303. Also CL is there for 6 episodes at least this season. She already has shot for 4 episodes. So she might not die in episode 2. Unless she is only there in flashbacks after that. But I too think Sara might go rogue this season.
ReplyDeleteMaybe not killing Sara maybe killing someone else or intergrate a twist around Ra's al Ghul. I mean it must be something DC world connected when Stephen asks if they can do "THAT". Killing Sara wouldn't be an issue cause she isn't a real DC world character.
ReplyDeleteAnd I think we'll see Thea and Malcolm do their thing in ep 1&2 not connected to the Team Arrow storyline.
I'm getting so tired of them changing the f**king information on the damn time jump! First they say 7, then they say 8 months, then they say 7-8 months, now it's 5 f**king months?? WTF which is it? Now i don't believe anything about that time jump til we see it on screen.
ReplyDeleteAlready knew Oliver didn't know where she was, they already said he thought she was backing packing in Europe. Nothing new there. Glad he's going to find her in episode, that explains A LOT, giving the picture we saw. Can't wait for that moment!
Very much looking forward to Oliver and Roy scenes. I can't stress that enough, how ready i am.
"Can we do that?" "Can we do that?" Hmmm, Idk apparently we can. Lmao!!
I loved the Montreal Panel. Omg It was so funny when that girl asked if Laurel would die. I mean it wasn't funny b/c she asked that question (That was just a bonus), it was funny b/c of the WAY she asked. You couldn't tell if she meant it as Wishful thinking or if she was nervous for Laurel or if she was joking (even though the crowd cracked up) you just knew that she was COMPLETELY SERIOUS! That was classic. And the way Stephen handled that question was awesome. That was great.
I also liked the other girl that addressed him on his Russian speaking in the show. The way he handled that was amazing. I mean i always hear fans complaining about him speaking Russian. They say it's not bad, it's just broken, but i always wondered if he knew that. And now he does. lol So that made me happy. But i totally agreed with him when he spoke to that French guy. Never apologize for an accent. I love anyone who speaks another language. I only speak English, and i have to give it up for the people who learn English, b/c it's a known fact, that English is THE hardest language to learn. So it works both ways. I mean if you've never tried to learn the language before, you're not gonna be a pro at it. So i'm glad Stephen wants to work on it and get a linguistics coach on set. Personally i think it's sexy. lol I might not know what he's saying, but his effort is sexy....and his threats are even sexier. lol
Well that's not completely true now is it?After Tremors when Roy is introduced to Team Arrow till Man under the Hood where he is put in a coma they had 7 episodes to integrate him to Team Arrow and show him at least hitting one target while doing archery. They could have done that instead of doing a BoP episode as huntress was not even a part of the finale. But then again what else can Stephen say? We botched the Roy part completely. We are sorry. Roy was only in a coma for 3 episodes Ep 19, 21 and 22. Other episodes they side lined him completely for Lance family saga.
ReplyDeleteJust about the English language thing you mentioned. English is the easiest language to learn. I mean there are so many English words that people have to use every day that it's a lot easier to learn it.
ReplyDeleteI'm Serbian and you have no clue how Serbian is complicated, so many gramatic stuff. Horrible. I learned Russian for a couple of years and it quite difficult. And It's even similiar to Serbian as a Slavic language. I learned English quite easy, I don't speak or write it perfectly but. Think I'm quite solid, especially when I focus. Spanish I learned to understand just by watching Telenovelas. They were a big deal here in Serbia in the late 90's and 00's.
I must say learning a laguage is individual, a matter of does it fits you or not.
I disagree Shannon. English is a very easy language to learn. Only 26 alphabets and the pronunciation and words are very simple. Compared to that my mother tongue has 15 vowel letters, 41 consonant letters and a few other symbols. Trust me English is very easy. I found arabic very difficult.
ReplyDeleteI am glad Stephen works hard for his russian lines. He can never perfect it like someone who knows the language from childhood. I don't care if his russian is bad he is so sexy when he says those lines...
And THAT is my main reason why i wanted Laurel to be Black Canary by the end of Season 2. Having her being outside of the core team means they need screen time to develop her arc. Time that should have gone to Roy and her training.
ReplyDeleteThe whole time they spent on Thea, for example, last year was mostly time we lost seeing Roy train.
This happens when you have too much characters in way too diferent scenarios. They need to hurry up and put all characters on the same page.
Well there are different ways of speaking english, not just one form of it. And i mean that in terminology wise. I'm not saying that i agree with that. But it is widely known/said that English is the hardest (or one of the hardest) languages to learn. You may find it easy others may find it difficult. I've known people that have lived here for 40 plus years and they still don't speak English soo yeah.
ReplyDeleteI think he's sexy when he speaks both Russian and Mandarin on the show. If he started speaking French i'd lose my mind. LOL
Again, i'm not saying i agree. I'm just saying that it's a popular fact. Again, i think that everyone's different, some learn easier than others. TBH, i would love to speak a different language (French and Japanese mostly) but i doubt that'll ever happen b/c i'm a hands on learner, i'd have to go to those countries for a good 5 months to pick it up. English to me, as a professional 27 yrs running, lol...i'm bored with it. But eh, whaddaya gonna do? = p
ReplyDeleteI get what you mean, I was just sharing my experience. From my point of view English is quite simple especially comparing it to other languages. I speak 4 languages and yeah it was always pretty easy for me to pick them up. As said it's quite individual and some peopel could learn a language for 2 years and speak better than someone who is learning for 5-7 years.
ReplyDeleteI know Russian and Oliver/Stephen speaks typical American learned russian. He would need a lot more experience and be around actual russians for his russian not to be broken or without akcent. But I like how he speaks it. As ODA said it's quite sexy.
I agree and disagree with you on this. I also expected at the end of season 1 that Laurel will be BC by the end of season 2. That would have been excellent for her character than the alcoholism. I thought Tommy's death was enough motivation for her to be BC *shrugs*
ReplyDeleteBut the mistreatment for Roy after his integration to Team Arrow was definitely not due to the time spent on Thea. Thea got screen time only on Deathstroke and a little bit in Man under the Hood. Seeing Red had both Thea and Roy.
After Tremors they had so many unnecessary island scenes which felt like a filler. Huntress did not have to appear in season 2B. But EPs were really excited about putting DC characters in the show they badly wanted a BoP and SS episode. At least SS gave us some Diggle and they had some relevance in the finale. Also they even had a backstory for a small character like Sin where Sara has a connection with Sin's father in the island. I liked it more when Sara simply saved Sin because she was attacked by some men. Why waste time on such flashbacks and side characters when characters like Roy, Felicity, Moira and Thea don't even get any screen time? Can we forget the regressive romance between Oliver/Sara which took away from Lance sister development. One or two small scenes sprinkled through out these 7 episodes would have made a great difference to Roy's credibility in the finale.
Arrow's ensemble cast is not that big. Its still only 8 regulars. If they can't write for 8 characters simultaneously then I don't know what to say. Grey's Anatomy has so many regulars. I know its different since Arrow is primarily about Oliver Queen but still.
Cool, glad we get a time frame, I know tons of people were confused and saying 8, 9 months but I think that was mostly because of AJK who really just doesn't care about Arrow anymore.
ReplyDeleteI knew from BTS pics that Thea/Malcolm were in 303 and in Corto Maltese but I didn't realize Oliver went there looking for Thea. I thought it was tied to Diggle going to look for the rouge agent and Oliver/Roy went as back up only to run into Thea.
If you are speaking about specific accents like British, American or Australian then yes it is difficult to nail those accents. But as a language the grammer and words are very easy in english. Then again people like me who has learned different languages from school itself it is easy to pick up new languages.
ReplyDeleteoooh French. I would love to learn French.
Oh, i expressed myself wrong... I didn't want to say it was because of Thea. Obviously it was bad writing, i was trying to say that they use screen time in some pointless B storylines(The Oliver/Sara relationship is understandable for my point of view, if you want i tell you why. Stephen Amell said something similar to what i think on an interview... But i agree that the "go to dinner and rub it over your sister, who is doing bad, it's a stupid way the producers used to kill the Oliver/Laurel relationship once and for all) instead of making things that actually matter.
ReplyDeleteAlso, Arrow has only two leads(Amell's Oliver and Cassidy's Laurel, even if she was relegated to a supporting character on Season 2). When you have a character like Thea Queen and she is a regular, you need to "create" a story that is independant from the action of the show 'cause she can't be a part of that... Characters like that are weird to be regulars(now, on season 3, it makes a lot of sense because she will be in the focus of the action too). I always give as an example the "Moira's lawyer says she has to break up with Roy storyline", that was a stupid, pointless story, just to use the characters of Moira, Thea and Roy when they weren't needed at all.
English is not my first language so it's a little bit harder to express what i want to say. xD
Kreisberg said that they contracted her for 3 episodes. I haven't heard anything beyond that?
ReplyDeleteI guess you're right with Sara going rogue and I would rather have her as White Canary than biting the dust but I don't really see a future for her on this show. Especially since Caity has managed to make season 2 look like amateur theatre in terms of acting (sry but her performance was terrible)
There was a Guggenheim interview where he confirmed 6 episodes. If people who follow twitter are to be believed (I don't) she has already shot 4 episodes and is rumored to be in 306.
ReplyDeleteCaity's acting is only superior to Colton Haynes in this show. Her dialogue delivery is atrocious. But she can do vulnerable very well and had good chemistry with SA (too bad that relationship was horrible). I don't mind current Sara. She looks and acts like she can lead a team. Its the pre island and island Sara I have a problem with. Only scene I liked her in island was when she said I just want to go home to my family.
I would like it if she is not dead. That would be predictable. They could make her bad for a while and then send her away. I don't think she would have a place in the show after Laurel becomes BC *blah*. Sad for me but *shrugs* what can I do?
I haven't read that one then, sounds good though. Makes sense to have her in LoA flashbacks though
ReplyDeleteLol, I actually was led on by a post claiming "New stills of Caitly Lotz and Colton Haynes" after clicking on it I was led to an image of two chops of wood right next to each other. 100% accurate.
she has a place on this show: White Canary.
I can't see Laurel being turned into a villain but Sara has a good shot at becoming Laurels version of Merlyn
No not accents. Well not just accents. I'm talking terms and/or even slang for that matter. When I mean terms, I'm talking different words for the same thing. (EX. house/flat. Cigarette/Fag) that's what I mean. Not everyone will catch on to this types of terms or other types of terms just b/c it's "English" which is what I mean by different forms. Like it varies. I hioe I'm explaining that right. Hmm whatqs a better way? Ohhh I'll take a page from Shriek...Layers! English has layers. Hahahaha.
ReplyDeleteMy mom speak French. Me....iI failed my FrenchFrench course. Lol Understanding it was getting easy, but speaking it, pfttt, couldn't do it. Too many accents. Like i said, i'm a hands on learner, i'd have to go to France for months to pick it up. And i really want to go to France.
I've always said that if a person can speak two languages they can pretty much pick up any other language after that. I think it's that simple. My mother speaks 4 Languages, and I think that's the only thing I like about her. Lol. But yeah I think anyone that an speak 2 languages can speak anything one they learn it. B/c there's always some type of comparison. (When written that I've seen) and those people, who can speak multiple languages. I just call them....a knack for languages, or just good with the roll of the tongue. When I hear that a person can speak 7-13 langauges, i just get blown away. B/c it's like okk, where do you have the room in your mind to place all that information?? That is crazy. Me i'm a lost cause. I'm not going to learn the languages i want unless i went there. I've always felt it's best/easier to learn another language when you're young. Not saying you can't learn it when you're older, but it's a lot more difficult, but if you're trying to learn it every single day, maybe not so much.
ReplyDeleteGASP!!! Quit a tv show??? Why would you say such a thing?? Lol how dare you. Lol ohhh btw, if i learn french/Jap words at all, it's b/c of w/e movie i'm watching. I swear i've picked up Japanese by watching Kill Bill so many times. Lol nah but i've always loved Foreign films. B/c i love to hear different languages. I have become well at detecting the different between languages, so i'm proud of that. Even though it's probably lame to others. Lol
I know but he actually said 5 months and when I said I thought it was longer than that he confirmed to me that it was 5 months. Maybe they will change that again before the season premiere but for now it's 5.
ReplyDeleteAbout the time jump I had saw different info over the internet and I was confused that's why I asked him. The event was AMAZING, thank you. When I asked him my 2nd question it was in front of all the others who were there and I was so nervous I probably spoke the worst English I spoke over the last couple of year but he was so nice and was quite generous with the response he gave me. He also took time to gave my son who was with me and who's studying in television's production some advise about it. It is simply impossible to not love the guy.
ReplyDeleteLUV THEA!!!
ReplyDeleteWell they need to keep it that way. B/ I'm tired of this yoyo-ing. And 5 Months. Idk iI'm happy about that only b/ that would mean Lyla was 4 months prego and didn't know about it. (She sure as hell didn't gain any weight) or she knew and kept it from Diggle for like over a month. I thinkI would've liked I, if she were two months (like originally planned) and had JUST found out right before Amanda ruined it all.
ReplyDeleteThanks for this btw. I'd believe Stephen over the writers any day.
I agree Thea needs her brother
ReplyDeletewhat BTS pics?
ReplyDeleteLove the spoilers, thanks. So cool you got to meet him!
ReplyDeleteHaving trouble finding the picture, it was taken during Corto Maltese and on the same location/set. In the picture Willa is bending over showing her tush, while Barrowman/Colton point to it and make faces. That's how I knew Thea/Malcolm were in Corto Maltese.
ReplyDeleteHuh I've heard English is really hard to learn. But it was easy for me since it was my first.
ReplyDeleteShe needs a normal life and identity. Right now all she has is the League of Assassins. She's not like the Black Canary of the comics who could be a florist or a government agent. Her resume would not be something employers would accept with her being an assassin. Even if she left that out they would want to know what she did between certain dates.
ReplyDeleteseen it on her instagram
ReplyDeleteThank you for confirming the time jump. SA is simply wonderful isn't he?
ReplyDeleteLaurel will never be turned into a villain. Its usually head cannon of fans who wants her to turn to manhunter which prompts such talk. Also the last year's retconning of Laurel saying she stole Oliver from Sara (seriously), blackmail and shooting the cop guy and not mentioning it again made people wonder if she was going dark?
ReplyDeleteEven though I don't like the character and I dislike the actress so much, its clear from the interviews that they are going forward to making her BC. I just hope they go about it in a clever way. They initially thought of making Sara ravager. That would have been better imo then making her such a competent canary and taking the whole thunder out of Laurel at the same time. Also I would like to see how CL will handle Sara going dark. I think she will do good because in the island scenes I always felt she was going to back stab Oliver when I was supposed to think she was scared.
This is the problem with shows which are concentrated on the protagonists. I had this problem with House M.D. Whenever the show went away to show other people's personal problems like Cuddy's family, baby etc. I used to loose interest.
ReplyDeleteIt will be a better show when all these characters become part of main story line and action.
Easy thing to do send her away as an ARGUS operative. That way she does not die, she is not completely negative and she can pop in once or twice per season and kick some ass.
ReplyDeleteHe is. So respectful of everyone. And when you talk to him, he looks you in the eyes and you know he really listens to you. He had a very long day and he was probably exhausted but he took time for everyone in the room.
ReplyDeleteIt's always been five months. Since Season 1, the producers have said the Arrow universe calendar follows the actual broadcast calendar. For example, the date of Walter's abduction was the same as the broadcast date of the episode where his abduction took place. The winter break has been reflected both seasons between episodes 9 and 10.
ReplyDeleteNooo. Yeah ok we've heard them say that. And it was 5 months between seasons 1 and 2. But what i'm saying is that was NOT their original plan for this season. They specifically said numerous times during the summer (mostly around CC) that this season was 7-8 months ahead. You heard it clear as a bell at least 4 times. And i remember before it was announced fans were actually making bets about the time jump, and then when we FINALLY got a date everyone was happy. Just recently (by this article) they shortened it down to 5 months, and as Slyvie C has stated above, this time it's permanent...again apparently. But 5 months was not their original plan despite the previous seasons.
ReplyDeleteSo, what is the relevance? I also can site interviews pre-break and recently stating that the S02/S03 inter-season time span would be five months. Are you upset that they dabbled with increasing the time span between S02 and S03 but decided to stick with the original framework? As long as the time span is established before S03E01 airs, whatever it is, why is any off-season fluctuation relevant? What's relevant is that events remain fixed on the timeline throughout the episodes, so that no anomalies develop due to past events being "moved". The length of the breaks between seasons are unimportant, unless they decide in the future to end a season with a cliffhanger.
ReplyDeleteFacepalm, omg! I'm annoyed b/c they kept changing it period!! I was fine with what they said before, about the 7 months I didn't care how long it was, just as long as we got one after months of waiting, then they changed it more after that. THAT was my problem. make up your freaking minds!! That WAS my problem, get it?? Again i say that once CONFIRMED about the 5 months for the umpteenth time, i was okay about. Why is this a discussion? And what relevance is it of yours why i'm annoyed by it?? The time jump is important to me regardless if you think it's unimportant or not. It's about DETAILS, and once settled on specific details, no one really wants to go back and forth it's taxing. Like i said, they didn't go with their original plan of following their NORMAL time jump...but the fact that they couldn't settle on an actual date after confirming it 3-4 annoyed me. It's as simple as that.
ReplyDeleteI agree
