Thanks to Justin for the heads up.

The Carrie Diaries alum Austin Butler has joined the third season of The CW's Arrow in a recurring role, The Hollywood Reporter has learned. He first appears in the seventh episode.

Butler will play Chase, a charismatic DJ whose talent and wiles catch the attention of Thea (Willa Holland). Their professional relationship will quickly blossom into a romance.

  1. mmm i dont know. there already a lot of people here.

  2. I wasn't expecting her to get a new love interest in a already packed with new faces season.
There's so much going on! I hope the writters are able to pull of, I fear for some characters, to be honest.
Even though I like Austin Butler, think he's really charming and that he will make a cute couple with Thea, I can't get over the fact that the guy is constantly playing the same part on TV Shows (Carrie, Switched at Birth)...

  3. Hmmmm! The CW transforms into a Mafia! Once Ur in, there is no way out. Didn't see him act besides in The CD and there he looked pretty bland, he had it's solid moments but sometimes the writing was more the issue.
Thea and a new love interest! Sounds good. Will be nice to see how Thea will handle that keeping secrets thing! As she called out everyone to be liars.

  4. What about Roy? Does anyone else ship Roy and Felicity??

    ReplyDelete
  5. I think they would look cute together, but now that Olicity is going to be a thing I hope the writters really don't go that route with Felicity and Roy. That would add too much unnecessary drama.

    ReplyDelete
  6. he looks like the classic CW actor, young, attractive, skinny, clean cut.
I was hoping for Arrow to change up that concept but they already proved they wouldn't by casting Colton Haynes. Still...meh

I AM curious now though, how does she meet him? What do they work on together?
I'd assume she escaped Merlyns clutches by episode 7 but what about my fav villain then?

    ReplyDelete
  7. No! I want Thea and Roy to get back together, their relationship in the second season is actually what made me like them, he stopped being a big jerk and she wasn't a spoiled brat.

    ReplyDelete
  8. I see Thea as an attachment to Merlyn than the other way around. I mean he'll surely have his own agenda and play Thea against team Arrow. I'm interested to see if Merlyn and Ra have reconciled and how their relationship will work through the season.
And neither will Merlyn let her go off Thea easily, so they will stick around for more than half a season I hope at least.

    ReplyDelete
  9. I don't want her in a relationship, I want her kicking butt and taking names!

    ReplyDelete
  10. I wonder what professional relationship the two will have- does Thea get some kind of a job (does she get the club back?)? Not sure how I feel about her having a new love interest, I kinda like her and Roy together, but unfortunately S2 she just became Roy's supportive girlfriend rather than her own character. so I'm ok with her getting a storyline of her own away from Roy.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Don't know him but he looks like he's 12

    ReplyDelete
  12. I don't want her to escape from Merlyn. I was looking forward to some Sith master/apprentice hi-jinx.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Roy is getting a new LI as well, we just haven't been told who yet. Although it would be funny if it's Cupid.

    ReplyDelete
  14. since both are regular cast members I don't expect any of them to leave the show (especially since Thea is Olivers sister and Merlyn Green Arrows arch nemisis) but I don't want either of them wander aimlessly around for a season

    ReplyDelete
  15. I hate this news. Finally they broke up the boring Roy/Thea and finally Thea gets a good storyline and they decide to give her a love interest? I want Thea to get stronger and kick ass not to be involved with some random guy or in a love triangle.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Really??? Well, at least Carrie Diaries fans will have him on screen again.

    ReplyDelete
  17. So Thea is still going to run verdant once she returns? How else will she have a professional relationship with a dj? I am thoroughly confused now. I really did not want a new love interest for Thea. She just got out of Roy/Thea relationship. Why can't she remain single for a while? Please make this a one night stand for some Roy Harper angst and send this guy far far away.

    ReplyDelete
  18. I agree. My guess is that Thea comes back and acts "normal" but she is still working with her dad. I wouldn't mind that. But I hate this idea of a love interest. I didn't hate Roy/Thea but they were boring and I always felt that relationship limited Thea's screentime and storylines.
She finally gets her chance to shine and they are ruining it with this pointless love storyline. I wanted Thea to be focused on getting stronger and training with Malcolm not on some random guy.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Me too. I just hope she comes back and acts like everything is normal but it's all a facade.

    ReplyDelete
  20. I meant they will stick together not that either will depart or leave. The only person I see to get a leave of absence is Laurel to go train with Wildcat after midseason.

    ReplyDelete
  21. i liked Austin in Life Unexpected, the Carrie Diaries and Switched at Birth, so I am looking forward to this.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I think this LI is more about Thea having someone to keep her secret from, and for her to understand what Oliver and the others did to her was to protect her and not just for the benefit of lying. He could take a quick fall if Daddy doesn't like him or interweens in his plans.
BTW I assume there is more behind his face than to walk around shirtless at least I hope.

    ReplyDelete
  23. hope he either a killer or a criminal.........one night stand please.....or this could be a set up by Malcolm to watch over her?

    ReplyDelete
  24. I think he is a paid spy by Malcolm to watch her.....

    ReplyDelete
  25. oh, gotcha ^^
I honestly couldn't bear with this show without either Thea or Malcolm. Last season I was expecting Malcolm to show up every second and ended up being kind of let down by him not appearing and popular to popular belief I think that Thea is awesome for the way she handled the revelations around her. Not like a idealized character but like a real human being (a lot like Laurel).

I used to think that they would never get rid of Laurel but these days I`m more than convinced that theCW is aching to get rid of Katie Cassidy as the leading lady to place Emily Bett Rickards in her place. For some reason Felicity has replaced Laurel :/
I could see them demote Laurel from regular to recurring in season 4 and re-hire her as a regular in 5

    ReplyDelete
  26. that is a pretty good theory, Someone that's spying on Thea to either keep tabs on her for Ra's (to get to Malcolm) or Malcolm himself

    ReplyDelete
  27. I would prefer that.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I know it is cheesy but I am a sucker for "good guys gone bad" stories. I am really hoping Thea doesn't turn around and decide she is content with running a nightclub and being normal.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I love this theory. If he is a devious guy Malcolm uses to control Thea I will rejoice.

    ReplyDelete
  30. If he'll go bad let him be Assassin! ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  31. But that will happen only if Thea is a mask by then. I did not think Thea will have a costume by episode 7.

    ReplyDelete
  32. If he is a killer or criminal I hope we see Thea kick his ass. I like this theory too along with being Malcolm's spy.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I was apathetic towards Roy/Thea. They never interested me at all. But it is not a bad relationship either. I agree Thea was limited as Roy's supportive gf majority of last season. I hope this guy is a one night stand which will push Roy to move forward.

But I don't understand Thea coming back, acting normal and conspiring with Malcolm. Why would she deceive Oliver like that? I hope by this episode she is at least temporarily out of Malcolm's clutches. At least she believes so and then this guy turns out to be a Malcolm spy like said above.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I like Willa Holland a lot! Since her OC days and she had her moments along these 2 seasons but not enough at all. I liked her mini "arc" last year and I hope we get a lot more of her. About Malcolm, I liked how tormented he was in S01 and was the perfect Villain to close out S01. But him being Thea's dad wasn't my cup of tea at all. Especially cause he loved his wife a lot. But I'm glad he is back and hope for an interesting mind game.

Laurel, if they want to do her good, she needs some time apart from the main crew and develop into her BC alter ego or whatever they have planned. Maybe leave this season around ep 15-16 and comeback in S04 or something similliar. I wouldn't say they will demote her more likely to reduce her appearance and still keep her as a series regular.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I feel the same. I don't want her to go back to being Roy's girlfriend and nothing else.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I think it's enough of a secret to hide that you live with your sociopath father who killed a bunch of people and you have a secret crusade against your brother or something like that. She hasn't to be a Vigilante to have secrets, if you get me.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Roy/Thea isn't a bad relationship but it does nothing for me or the show. In S2 I felt they are just there to fill screentime.
I just hope Thea has a good reason why she is with Malcolm and we don't get to find out until later. I don't want her to get trained and then come back to live a normal life like nothing happened.

    ReplyDelete
  38. I don't think they will becoming a thing. Isn't Oliver suppose to stay away from Felicity at the end of episode one because being around her almost gets her killed so he official decides never to pursue it again ?

    ReplyDelete
  39. ... and yet he just turned 23 in August.

    ReplyDelete
  40. The chimes of CW doom are upon us... they realized a character, Thea in this case, doesn't have a love interest or an involvement in a love triangle for more than three straight episodes, and quickly set out to correct that terrible error.

Anyway. I guess this means Thea comes back to Starling and resumes running Verdant after having been with Merlyn for a while. I wonder how that's gonna work.

    ReplyDelete
  41. For the love of god, please let that be the case. I can't deal with "love interests" anymore. Especially since "interest" is about the last word I'd use to describe the reaction they get from me.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Going by looks alone, if Thea chooses this guy over Roy, I will officially conclude that all the crap she went through in the last third of Season 2 has driven her crazy.

    ReplyDelete
  43. There's nothing whatsoever to indicate that Roy/Felicity is a real possibility (thank god). I think a few fans just brought it up because EBR and CH are BFF's in real life.

    ReplyDelete
  44. It will be a season long issue for Oliver to figure out if he wants to be only Arrow or he can be Oliver Queen also. You probably see throughout the season how Oliver will decide. And F/O will be present the whole time.

    ReplyDelete
  45. I think they will be some issue between Roy and Felicity since she didnt tell him what happened during his royd rage.

    ReplyDelete
  46. i think the people on CW loves their love triangules, that cant have a show without them

    ReplyDelete
  47. damn it no thea and roy damn it

    ReplyDelete
  48. The whole date, flirting, kissing that's going to happen on the premiere already qualifies as a thing. And never is a strong word for a TV show.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Wait for it Alex. We have yet to hear about the new "love interest" for Roy. So brace for it. I hope there is a bigger picture here. This seems so unnecessary as of now.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Yep there is that. I thought Thea will remain with Malcolm and will only come back to Oliver's normal life after they reconcile with him and know his secret. But it looks like Thea is going to play the normal Thea and be in cahoots with Malcolm. I am kind of disappointed.

    ReplyDelete
  51. I thought Thea will remain with Malcolm until she forgave Oliver and learned his secret. But this looks like she comes back and keep her relationship with Malcolm a secret from Oliver. This was not the story I was looking forward to. So I am kind of disappointed. But then again none of my predictions have ever came true in this show.:)

    ReplyDelete
  52. I heard the guy is tall. So that is a plus point over Roy. LOL

    ReplyDelete
  53. Emily and Colton have chemistry up the wazoo but the characters are polar opposites. Roy shows no interest in her in the same way Oliver, Barry and possibly Ray does.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Felicity already has a list of costumed heroes as her beau's. Arrow, Atom and Flash. Now lets not add Arsenal to that list. I hope they have a great sibling like friendship.

    ReplyDelete
  55. I hope Roy LI is Chesire like in the comics.......but she secretly a member of the LOA

    ReplyDelete
  56. Gotta love the broken logic of so many of these comments. "Aww, I don't want her to have a love interest, I want her to kick ass." Implying that women are incapable of feeling such basic human emotions like love AND be tough and kick ass at the same time. Seriously? How does it make any logical sense that you can have one but not the other?

    ReplyDelete
  57. It's really simple why Felicity has more of less taken over as the main female, the vast majority of viewers and fans prefer her, that and critics like Alan Sepinwall (who even stated that Emily Bett Rickards should've been nominated for an Emmy and has stated her importance to the show's success and enjoyment).

    ReplyDelete
  58. Oh woman can have romance and kick ass. Definitely. This reaction here is due to the fact that it is Thea. Majority of last season and even the second half of season 1 Thea did not have anything to do other than being the supportive girlfriend of Roy Harper. Where as he got badly executed but a dedicated story arc.

Now with the way last season finale ended I am expecting this season to be Thea's season. We already know that there is going to be romantic angst between Thea and Roy. Now we are adding another element to this and another triangle blooms. Personally I wished since Thea is going through an identity crisis her arc will be about her choosing Oliver or Malcolm.

Also you can't deny that there is too many romance angles going on in this show now. Oliver/Felicity, Felicity/Ray, Roy/Thea, Thea/New guy, Diggle/Lyla, Laurel/Wildcat, Roy/rumored new LI.

    ReplyDelete
  59. I liked him enough on SaB and LAX but I'm not really into a love triangle between him, Thea, and Roy..

    ReplyDelete
  60. Since CH said he hopes it is Chesire, I have a feeling she won't be the one this time maybe in future seasons.

    ReplyDelete
  61. It seems as though the show is giving its characters love interests just as easily and as frequently as Oprah gave her audience gifts. Which was a LOT.

I was hoping for Thea NOT to get a love interest this season. I kind of wanted her to focus more on being badass than being with a guy. I feel like this character will only be used to get a rise out of Roy which sort of disappoints me.

Does anyone else get the feeling that Arrow is doing way too much for season 3? they’re casting so many new characters that I’m worried about the original characters not getting enough screen-time/development.

    ReplyDelete
  62. But can he shoot an arrow? I think not.

    ReplyDelete
  63. what? Emmy?

    wowza....I can't agree with that statement....at all

    ReplyDelete
  64. I think most of these new characters like this guy, Manhunter, even Komodo will be one episode characters. Manhunter and Komodo might come back by the end of the season.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Unless they're trying to turn her in Oliver 2.0 I think she has more than enough love interests! Oliver, Ray, Barry, MIT guy...

    ReplyDelete
  66. Today I first heard of Thea playing double life and it could be interesting. U never know. Either way there will be a lot of bonding between Father and Daughter.
And I don't think if she plays double life that Oliver will be in the dark. He surely sought her out after the Slade army incident via some spy and knows about her whereabouts. I mean it's Oliver!
I look forward to her story this year, I look forward to all the girls stories so bring it on.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Hopefully this is the case. I don't want the writers to focus on this Chase character. He seems like a means to an end and a waste of time. The same sort of goes for Ray Palmer. Is it just me or does anyone else think he's going to die by seasons end? Or at the very least, skip town and go to Flash?

    ReplyDelete
  68. Well he said it. I don't blame him for it, given how well she performs the role.

    ReplyDelete
  69. Thea's is my most anticipated story line this season. I am not super disappointed my predictions were wrong. I never get them right for this show so no surprise. I just don't know how to feel about double life and her kind of being in Oliver's life and working against him. The last scene between Oliver and Thea was so sweet. Even though she was upset they parted with amicable feelings. That and this new dynamic doesn't make sense. Let's see what happens.

    ReplyDelete
  70. Emily is a great actress and the role of Felicity justice but even I don't agree with that statement.

    ReplyDelete
  71. It has to Chesire........but we might have an overload of recruiting/guest star already

    ReplyDelete
  72. I think he also said it is someone who has ties with his old life. So maybe this some one will bring some trouble into Roy's life.

    ReplyDelete
  73. wow, this is where I drop out of the conversation because she is on the lower list of Arrows acting list if one asks me.
She's completely overdoing the quirky aspect of her character, there is litterally no emotional scene she brought to the screen believably.
Didn't you call John Barrowman a notorious overactor once? Rickards is Barrowman times 20.

I get why people like her performance as she delivers light entertainment but she hits ONE NOTE of her character. And a character is supposed to be more rounded than that.

She might not be as bad as Colton Haynes or Caity Lotz are but sheesh....Emmy? Really

Give Josh Hutcherson and Phoebe Tonkin an oscar why don't you? :P

    ReplyDelete
  74. I think with Ray Palmer they are going to test the waters and see how audience is going to take to the character. If audience reacts positively I think he will recur both on Arrow and Flash next season on wards. After all they did compare him to Faith of BTVS.

    ReplyDelete
  75. Merlyn's poison is what happens. She will probably find out that Ollie is the Arrow and that Roy is working with him. Throughout season 1&2 she was pretty much in the dark and the one person she trusted was living a double life. Not cool.
I worry that the writers will have to many stories to go after this season and will fail to execute them properly. I would love for Thea, to leave Arrow after this year and move into the Flash. Could see her have a "better" future there and develop more. Arrow is really crowded.
But as you said, let's sit down and watch it happen.

    ReplyDelete
  76. ... They compared him to Faith??? I'll withhold my judgment, but I really doubt Ray will be as awesome as Faith. And Eliza Dushku > Brandon Routh imo

    ReplyDelete
  77. I would like it if the reason for Thea sticking to Malcolm is because of Oliver and Roy's identity. That makes sense. But I thought Oliver revealing himself to be the Arrow and being honest with her will be what brings Thea back to him. Well, what do I know?

No to Thea moving away to Flash. I agree this season seems more crowded than last one but maybe most of this newly released characters will be one episode cameos. Only Ray Palmer seems to have a specific block of episodes. Even Wildcat seems to have less no. of episodes than him. If Thea move away then Oliver will loose his last family member and I love their sibling relationship. So I am putting my foot down don't take Thea away. Willa Holland is awesome.

    ReplyDelete
  78. BR is so wooden anything is greater than him except for CH. I am mean. They compared him to Faith a few many times before, during and after SDCC. Called him a game changing character like Faith. I think what they were referring to was Oliver's life choices will be affected due to Ray Palmer.

    ReplyDelete
  79. Now we come full circle, U think Oliver revealing himself to Thea would brng them back together. But maybe after meating Chase, Austin Butler'character amnd realizing how hard it is to tell someone what you've become will make Thea realize why Oliver hid his identity. But we'll see.
I love Willa as well and I want her to get the best possible development and that is why I want her to see in the Flash trying to develop an Identity of her own. But if they manage to get all the characters what they deserve she can stay. ^_^ And they can always bring in Oliver's son to make him have family around.

    ReplyDelete
  80. Maybe they meant it in the sense that Ray will be the perfect foil to Oliver in season 3 just as Faith was a foil to Buffy. Ray will most probably represent Oliver's ideal life, something he thinks he can't have. He's rich, has his company, will probably date Felicity at some point, etc.

Hopefully they only meant it in that sense.

    ReplyDelete
  81. I think that's exactly how she'll play it. Especially after being lied to for so long. Can't to see how she reacts to Oliver being Arrow.

    ReplyDelete
  82. You don't get it and I doubt I could ever convince you. But again I didn't say this, Alan Sepinwall one of the most respected and beloved TV critics did. He's a pretty good judge of things like this. She may not be asked to give a very ranged performance (as Sepinwall has acknowledged) but she's done a with what she's given than Katie Cassidy ever has with Laurel (who for some reason you always compare her to. I have to stress I like Katic Cassidy I just don't think she's very good in the rolem but she has been given pretty questionable writing at times, but still it's really hard to sympathize with someone who wallows in self-loathing and drug addiction and verbally assaults anyone who tries to help her)

    ReplyDelete
  83. Lol but yeah Phoebe Tonkin and Hutcherson are really bad.

    ReplyDelete
  84. you said you couldn't blame him for that statement, I doubt you would give her an oscar, for that Arrow itself is blessed with better actors.
But I'll remain baffled by this guys statement, she's by far not a terrible actress. Certainly one of the best surprises Arrows first season brought with it, I saw that there was more to her he moment she appeared for a minute in season 1. She has charisma. Something not many people have, screen presence if you will.

She is given pretty easy material though, having done such scenes myself I guess I can at least judge the level of her material BUT she's great with what she is given and that is more than I expect from a CW actor.

This guys statement is still making my mout hang open wide though. I really don't try to undermine Emily in any way, she deserves so much more than being the core of a shipper fanatic basis but the statement that on a show that features the likes of Robert Knepper, John Barrowman, Willa Holland, Manu Bennett and Kelly Hu Emilys performance sticks out as emmy worthy creates a mix of emotions in me I still fail to properly understand myself. I take acting on television immensively serious because it IS what creates the magic, moreso than in theatrical releases. The limited ammount of shooting time forces the actors to be better and to push themselves.

I'm really not trying to put Emily down in any way, I enjoyed her character throughout season 1 and parts of 2 but I have the feeling that the current ship hype paired up with the 'awesome quirky sidekick' formula is kind of clouding peoples judgement.

    ReplyDelete
  85. At least something we can agree on :P
I've recently found myself rewatching Tonkins 'death' scene from The Originals finale, that look of confusion spoke more than a book of 1000 pages could. "How did I manage to make it that far into the industry" being the question her look asked.

    ReplyDelete
  86. I just think that, specially if this guy is indeed just a one ep character (I hope so, I mean seriously, it's SUCH an overly typical "look at his look" kind of guy character, and I'm getting kind of sick that with women it has to become more and more respectful, buy guys can be cast by their looks more and more, so that the female audience will like them >.<) And like you said with the identity crisis, I'd like to point out that already it's yet another sign that they're going to completely ruin Thea...

And I'm still sure that it's going to be the whole Thea choosing between Oliver and Malcolm, which still is seirously BS, since I still don't understand how she can trust Malcolm, and hate Oliver for something she never actually let him explain.

It's been realyl vague if it's going to be the entire season, the whole choosing thing, since she can't say much apparently, even though she herself would like to play Speedy, but people are still way too busy with wanting her dark, evil, as a killer, which is something different from badass, but hey.

I still hope that around ep 9 this dude is dead or just gone... And that it is indeed just a fling, just a distraction for her... Knowing the CW, it'll probably be one over-the-top-slutty-sex-scene or something >.<
I don't know, I just think it's really unnecessary, to give her a love interest, even if it's hopefully as short as I see most people here hoping. And I'm not exactly a Roy/Thea fan, but at least that would mean the writers not completely throwing Thea's character out the window, what a good person she is that they put out there, and suddenly make her completely OOC.

And I think the whole love triangles thing is a result of the CW, I don't know what it is, but they love their triangles and flingy sex-scenes.

    ReplyDelete
  87. LOL, seriously? A spy for Malcolm? 'Sure, let's hire a criminal/killer and ask him to spy on my daughter, but he can have sex with her if she's willing, I don't give a rat's ass.' Something like that? x'D It sounds that way at least.

I definitely hope he's not a killer or criminal, and if he is, especially with being a spy for Malcolm, I hope she only has a one-night-stand with him without knowing either of that... if she does sleep with him while knowing he's a killer or something for example, again, pretty much very OOC of Thea's character wouldn't you say?

But I do hope he's a douche... Considering I have to say he pretty much looks like a typical douche that only gets a part because they think girls will love his looks or something *Sigh*

I'm still just hoping for something of a sign again from the writers, that they're not planning on just screwing up her character per episode, and that they actually plan on making this her actual "island" season, I know they've said it, but I'm getting the feeling like they decided otherwise or something...
I just still hope they don't want to try something original, scrap Speedy, and make her a simple Mini-Malcolm and replacement for him when he dies or something >.<

    ReplyDelete
  88. I still REALLY love their sibling dynamic too, which is why I HATE it that they keep throwing hints out there of them mostly just destroying that more and more.
I don't care what other people think or say, I'm sticking to the point that Thea is NOTHING at all like Malcolm, and her choosing him once was stupid and unreasonable enough, especially after that sweet last moment and what Ollie said to her.
If she were to choose Malcolm again... Well, that would just still ruin it for me, mostly because there is not a second that I believe that Malcolm can ever be redeemed for his massacre, or his mind games >.< Or specially what happened to Tommy because of him, something that I still think Thea is really simply accepting and just think it's fine, but a few lies from Oliver to protect her, si something she can hate him for and be all mad about?

Thea's arc is also the one I'm still most looking forward to, but also at the same time, really not looking forward to at all... I mean, now this stupid, OVERLY predicatble LI, and her doing the EXACT same thing back to Oliver apparently that she's so mad about... It's just fake, just really bad.

If she really just uses Verdant as her cover, specially if she knows about Oliver and does it on purpose to "play" him, then after that I just see no hope at all...

    ReplyDelete
  89. Hahah! OMG, really? For Thea and Malcolm to trust each other? xD You want her to trust him? The most sociopathic, selfish guy ever?
I read that Malcolm so called "cares" about Thea, but I don't believe that for a second, he "cares" about what she can do for him, how he can manupulate her and form her into his mini-version >.<

There is NO redemption for Malcolm, so if Thea were to trust Malcolm, then it would mean that she would just stay a villain forever, and probably take his place if he ever were to die or something...

I still feel like by the day, less and less people actually just want her to become Speedy, on team Arrow, and be badass that way.
And that people just like Malcolm, because he's played by John Barrowman, doesn't change that his character is just an a-hole xD

  90. So did I, and I hoped at exactly the midseason finale, and that Malcolm would just screw up and show that HE is the one that can't be trutsed, and that doesn't careabout her (Which I still believe he doesn't, whatever the writers believe themselves, I can't believe for a second he actually cares. he might have THOUGHT he cared about Tommy too, and look how well he managed to make sure he would die, because of him xD)

Either way, if she knows about Oliver's identity then or not (Which I hope not) and her then coming back and lying just as hard, and even more intentionally than he ever did to her, straight to his face... Then they would prove to everyone how much BS was in the whole reason for Thea to join Malcolm, that she was just being a baby and unreasonable >.<

  91. I agree while Roy/Thea relationship may not have done wonders for Thea's character or has been very engaging for the viewer, it is a good solid relationship. They should concentrate on the mistrust Thea feels towards Roy and not add another LI to the mix. I hope he is a one episode character or Malcolm's minion whom he uses to control and manipulate Thea.

Regarding choosing Oliver or Malcolm thing.. I say that only because writers said this " am I Thea Queen or Thea Merlyn?" My personal hope is that Thea is using Malcolm for her own ulterior motives. To be independent and strong mentally and physically. But this news of her owning Verdant again makes me worry. I thought Thea will be coming back to Oliver's life after their reconciliation. Her deceiving Oliver while being on the side of Malcolm does not sit well with me.

  92. I have to agree myself that Roy/Thea definitely has not been my favorite couple by any means, mostly because a part of me thinks that Thea should have been first, since it was always pretty much Speedy first, and then Arsenal anyway, so why not figure out Thea first, and then Roy? But I guess, maybe when they suddenly thought of making her Malcolm's daughter, taht might have changed or something.
But like you said, they're stabile, and the thing I am sure about with them, is that Roy would be good for her, also in the sense of being on the good side? xD If that makes sense.
But yeah, let's hope this "Chase" guy is one episode, though they don't really make it sound like it... Then again, there was a show where they talked about a love interest for a character, when that was also just a one-night-stand for one episode xD The thing is, that I would prefer him being a spy, though I would hate Malcolm like 20 times more for doing something so... Gross, but let's be honest, if he is, and Malcolm is using him to manipulate and control Thea, it would mean that when she finds out, he dug his own grave, and I would LOVE that being the case.

Hm, yeah that's right, honestly I tried not to think about that too much, because I hated reading that... She's a Queen, no matter what, I would hate her calling herself, or considering herself Thea Merlyn, but she just has to get over herself xD I thought the same thing when she'd come back, and I still hope so because I don't believe that Malcolm told her about Ollie, and I still believe that she'd really look up to him for everything he's done as the Arrow, all the good, she can't just look past that.
So let's hope they're giving us false information on purpose, that she won't be deceiving him, 'cause that would make NO sense at all, doing the EXACT same thing as she's so unforgiving for.

I just want to add, there was an interview like two months back by now, more or less, where Willa Holland literally said: Malcolm is the one guy that she right off the bat knows that... She can't and shouldn't trust the guy. So I really hope that that hint, including what Ollie said in their last real scene together last season, is still a strong indication that Malcolm will ruin it, hopefully sooner rather than later, and Thea will see the light, and stop being so butthurt at the same time lol xD

Besides, a part of me hopes that they're giving out a lot of missinformaton, when it comes to Thea's storyline, just because of the exact reason that they don't want people to be sure yet that she'll become Speedy. I know this is her "island" and all this season, but I still hope it's not the entire season, and we'll actually see some actual TheaSpeedy action in it before the season's over.

  93. Idk him, but I'm curious. Not that I'll never stop thinking that Roy and Thea belong together. But we knew this would happen. Not a big surprise.

    ReplyDelete
  94. As Oliver said to Thea she is the purest of them all and he wants her to remain that way. She might dabble in the dark but they can't turn her completely Team Malcolm after that dialogue. Malcolm is not going to be redeemed nor he is ever going to be a anti hero. The best in goodness that is going to come from him is in the future he might team up with Oliver to save Thea. He is always going to be the manipulative puppet master ever.

The scene I am most looking forward to is when Oliver reveals his alter identity to Thea and they are going to have that heart wrenching long over due conversation. Willa Holland and SA is going to be awesome.

    ReplyDelete
  95. Yeah, exactly, which is exactly the reason why I still hope they won't try and stretch it out too long, or they'll still have to make her do things, or make decisions that wouldn't make sense or something.

But absolutely, that's a scene I'm also really looking forward to. Willa Holland and SA can definitely make that awesome, even more if it's written really well.

  96. He'll probably leave if the fans don't respond positively after the 12 episode contract is up, but I doubt he'll die. He's Atom.

  97. Too many characters and plots was exactly the problem in the latter half of S2 so I too hope they don't go that route again. I know a lot of people were like "OMG, Deathstroke, Merlyn, Black Canary, Red Arrow, League of Assassins, Suicide Squad, Huntress - can this show get any better?!", but I kept feeling they were prioritizing that stuff over the core cast of characters, which is not the right way to go.

  98. I don't recall a direct comparison between Ray and Faith in the Comic Con panel, but rather they said "Season 3 is when you start to add some game-changing characters, like Faith on Buffy." Obviously, Ray is one of those.

I haven't seen BR in anything other than Superman Returns (bleh) so I don't know what to expect from him. I just hope Ray is more than Felicity's LI. Which

    ReplyDelete
  99. Oh yeah, that is totally coming back to haunt her like all secrets on TV. I can already see the next Roy angst-fest on the horizon. Sigh. It's time for Roy to move beyond the Angry Teen phase.

    ReplyDelete
  100. Hey, don't knock short guys. Some of them are really hot. LOL.

    ReplyDelete
  101. Unless he's secretly Merlyn's little spy assigned to watch over his daughter, ha.

  102. In an ideal world, I wouldn't be worried about a female character getting a love interest while she's supposed to have a good meaty storyline of her own. Unfortunately, we are still living in an age where so many female TV characters lack decent storylines and are largely there as love interests for the male characters. This is especially true in the superhero genre. And in the particular case of Thea, she was written as a bratty teen in S1 and as nothing more than Roy's supportive girlfriend in most of S2. Near the end of S2, she finally began to get a storyline of her own... and now, a few episodes into S3, she's already getting a new boyfriend. So can you blame people for being concerned that once again, the show will spent more time on a female character's love life than who she is as a person and what she contributes to the plot?

  103. I had to google Atom's superpowers, and I gotta say, it doesn't suit Arrow's theme of being 'grounded'. I thought he was going to be in 16 episodes? I don't know what Ray's endgame is, but it seems like he's on the road to nowhere... or central city. But the EPs did state that Ray will act as a foil to Oliver, so I think Ray will be used as a plot device... well more of a characterization device.

I too want the writers to just stop messing around with Oliver's love life and have him be in a stable relationship. It's just one less thing to worry. I mean, if you think about it, if Oliver's in a stable relationship, there'll be less drama on the romantic front and there would be more focus on the things that matter more, like the villains or the action. Just sayin'.

  104. 1) Deathstroke and his motivation was poorly handled and the writing was too rushed
    2) Merlyn barely showed up because of everything else going on
    3) Black Canary, Sara and the Lance family drama was too focused on. It shoved Digg and Felicity to the background and I didn't appreciate that. Also BC in the finale when she went back with the LoA? That was the weirdest part of the finale
    4) Red Arrow, there wasn't enough focus on his training, all we did was see him slap water and practice shoot one arrow (terribly). His arc was too rushed.
    5) Suicide Squad, I actually liked this one :p
    6) Huntress, I gotta say, I skipped the Birds of Prey episode. It was obviously just a bottle episode.

Everything that you said except for Sara and the Lances suffered because of rushed/forced writing. They focused too much on the Lance family drama, thus other aspects of the show suffered. Add to this there was just too much going on... I hope the writers understand not to take on so much in season 3.

  105. What I meant is that some people - probably comic readers - were so psyched at having so many characters and plots from the comics on Arrow that they didn't really care about the quality of the show as a whole. Personally, I think the cast of THIS show like Diggle, Thea and Felicity is more important but many of them got the shaft so that the show could bring in so many characters/villains from the DC universe and get those fans excited.

Their mantra for S3 should be quality of storylines/characters over quantity. The addition of so many characters does have me a bit worried, but on the flip side I'm glad the main characters all seem to have their own plots this season.

    ReplyDelete
  106. I completely agree. But then again, I'm a non comic reader so I don't really care about other comic characters. I guess what I meant to say was that there was just so much going on, that they couldn't focus on their main (important) characters and that's where they really failed in season 2 :/

But I guess I'm a little positive over the fact that the characters who are being introduced are only there for one episode (villain of the week I suppose?)

    ReplyDelete
  107. Don't forget the mess that was named Isabel Rochev. What a waste of a fabulous actress. The beef I have with Suicide Squad episode is where was Bronze Tiger? The character got only one dialogue "Tiger's a go". Sharpnel/Sean Maher another good actor wasted with no time to develop. I also had an issue of Sharpnel being so anti government ended up working for covert govt. organisation like ARGUS.

Even with all the focus on Lance family in latter half of season 2 the story was not done well. The Lance sisters deserved better than Laurel saying sorry to Sara and Oliver once again jumping Lances. Don't even get me started on that weird send off scene at the docks. That smile on Laurel's face while sending off her baby sister with an assassin was puzzling.

  108. I don't blame BR for Superman Returns. The movie over all was bad. The dead beat father thing did not do him any favors. I have seen him in other projects and he never impressed me. Also I have a problem with this extremely good looking actors like the Adam Donnell ADA from last season. I hated that actor too. But he seems to be popular in Orphan Black fandom.

If SA come clean shaven without his scruff I will dislike him too.

    ReplyDelete
  109. Yeah, that was just a boring movie, didn't really have a lot to do with his acting. But I don't have any other point of reference for his skills because it's the only role I've seen him in. He seems kinda fun in the short bits we've seen of Ray in the promos so far.

And on the topic of looks - man, SA definitely isn't nearly as attractive clean-shaven. I'm glad he's keeping the scruff as a nod to the character's beard in the comics.

    ReplyDelete
  110. I am from India. CH will be considered a tall guy here. Any one above 5'7" is super tall for us. So I will take Roy and Thea can keep the tall new DJ dude.

    ReplyDelete
  111. Can we share Roy? Haha.

    ReplyDelete
  112. I have never seen BR doing comedy. He was really fun and sassy in the promo. I like that he is very smug and will drive Oliver nuts. I am hoping this will be the role that makes me like BR. The fandom is going to be super divided about him though. Some will outright dislike him and some will love him.

I recently stumbled up on a TV movie the cutting edge 4. And suddenly there is SA in a clean shaved reporter role. He didn't have much to do nor he was bad in the small scenes he had. But God it was difficult to watch him without his beard. But the funny thing is in Arrow pilot episode SA hardly had a scruff still it was so different from his clean shaven look. The difference a little facial hair makes!!

    ReplyDelete
  113. He is too pretty to share. I don't think I can even touch him because of all the pretty. I will need to immortalize him some how so that I can look at his perfectly angled and proportioned face.

    ReplyDelete
  114. He'll definitely have a hard time winning the fans over, since he's being framed as an obstacle to Olicity from day one. Sara was really popular at first and look how much that changed after she hooked up with Oliver. I'm not denying there were other factors that made people dislike her in later episodes, but characters who are "the other party" in a love triangle with a fan favorite pairing are always in trouble.

    ReplyDelete
  115. I am imagining a "honey I shrunk the kids" kind of scene where Oliver, Felicity, Diggle and Roy are searching for Ray Palmer with magnifying glass hanging from the roof. I have no idea how this specific skill set of Ray can be shown believably on Arrow? If they do it successfully it can be fun.

    ReplyDelete
  116. I see lot of people excited about this character Olicity fans and others. Some are sceptical because of BR. But I also see a small portion of fandom already decided to dislike Ray Palmer because he is going to come between Olicity.

I honestly don't think there is going to be that serious of a relationship between Ray and Felicity. Most of the season they will be working on that secret project of Ray. There will be some flirtation and may be they will date. I think Ray will be mostly used for developing Oliver than for romancing Felicity..

    ReplyDelete
  117. And if all that's not enough, CH has a lovely singing voice as well. Gah.

    ReplyDelete
  118. I think Thea is just resented with her loved ones, but I do believe she will leave her father and this new guy and will end up with Roy. I want to see who has trained harder and who had a better master, Roy or Thea. I am surprised Malcolm Merlyn allowed her to have someone intimate so soon.

    ReplyDelete
  119. I like the fact that Colton Haynes is playing Arsenal. He is new in the CW. I am sure this guy Chase won't make it to season 4, and I wouldn't be surprised if he is a spy of the League of Assassins. They now know Malcolm is still alive and what better way to get to him than his daughter. The duel I am most expecting besides Thea vs Roy, it's Malcolm vs Roy trying to see if he is good enough for his daughter. Malcolm is not a fool and he must know that no matter how much efforts Thea puts to forget Roy, she must still love him and he knows that Arsenal is an obstacle, besides I am sure he will personally enjoy to test his archery skills against Oliver's apprentice. That episode it's going to be epic.

    ReplyDelete
  120. I don't about you guys, but I am still not ready to see people with superpowers in Arrow, so I hope they don't force any crossovers in Arrow. I think the next step is showing a new villain with more super strength that doesn't come from the Mirakuru to Oliver's surprise. I know they will eventually try to introduce characters with superpowers, but even having Barry, I still think is too soon. I would be devastated if Oliver knew of the existence of people with superpowers even before he came back from the island. What's next. He encountered an alien ship while he was on the island or he meet someone capable of using magic. The moment that happens I stop watching ARROW.
