God, I love Trip so much. And seems like they're keeping Ward "down below" with them so maybe they won't have to break him out of prison? They still need his help, though. And he'll only talk to Skye!
Fuck, the premiere's only a week away and I need it in my life.
It seems there's still a SkyeWard shipper deep inside of me because I got all giddy with the idea of him only talking to Skye. And was it just me, or did it feel chilly between Coulson and Skye? I'm probably reading too much into it and he's just profesional, but I loved their lighthearted relationship and I hope that's not all gone. Only one more week, that's what I keep telling myself.
so ward is in the Playground and he'll only talk to skye wow, i think i'm one those rare skye and ward shippers because i don't consider ward a villain he was abused his entire life so yeah i still hardcore ship them and skye calling Director coulson sir, what happened to A. C.
Don't worry - Skyeward shippers aren't that rare (especially based on the poll here a few weeks ago) and he's definitely not a villain. And while the abuse definitely doesn't excuse his actions and Ward should pay for his crimes in jail, he needs a shitload of therapy. And he and Skye should both be healthier and happier before they even think of trying again (like in a few more seasons). He needs to heal first.
I really hate that some people ignore the fact that Garrett kidnapped a sixteen year old abuse victim and proceeded to physically and emotionally (possibly sexually too, because many have noticed that he's throwing up red flags for that too) Ward until the day he died. It shaped a lot of his actions last season.
Just saying, you do realize that most real-life "villains" also come from some sort of horrible background of abuse, poverty, suffering, etc.? Someone rarely just wakes up one day and decides to do a ton of evil shit. If we go by the logic and say someone like that isn't a villain, maybe none of them should be in jail...
Skye definitely seems darker, more serious. And she and Coulson seem to have a distance between them that wasn't there before... maybe Coulson is taking his Director duties rather seriously and keeping the team at an arm's length. If so, I hope it doesn't last long because the family-like dynamics of the group is one of my favorite things about the show.
It's funny how Skye and Trip are recreating the fans' conversations about what's up with the Koenigs. I still say they're LMD's, which also paves the way for a reveal that (DUN!) it was Victoria Hand's LMD that was killed by Ward and she's still alive.
This is a different situation before Ward was literally abused his entire life. It wasn't just in the abuse - John Garrett literally kidnapped Ward at fifteen and then proceeded to physically and emotionally abuse him until the day he died at Coulson's hand. Garrett was the true villain last season and Ward was just his weapon.
Finally some good long footage! I was really amazed they put Skye and the alien symbols juxtaposed for a couple seconds there, quite the haunting imagery given how they ended last season. Can't wait!
When Ward became a grown man, there was nothing stopping him from walking away from Garrett (especially after he joined SHIELD which would've protected him from HYDRA if he'd come clean), but he stayed. So any continued abuse and manipulation from that point on can't be blamed solely on Garrett. Ward had the choice to get help and get better, but he didn't. So while there are mitigating circumstances that should be taken into account in terms of his punishment, he is responsible for his actions and still a villain.
But I think we're just going to have to agree to disagree on this one. To be clear, I'm not disregarding the horrors in Ward's past (as you indicated some people do), but I don't share your opinion on the level of leniency they justify.
We're still waiting on confirmation that this is the same Isabelle who was Hand's girlfriend in the comics, but yeah, that would be great. (She's definitely a recurring character, though, right? So even if she leaves after the season premiere, she'll pop up again sooner or later.)
Yes, it can be solely blamed on Garrett. He took away Ward's choices and convinced him he didn't have any. The man literally couldn't function without orders in the finale! That's what abuse does - it's a real life form of brainwashing. And it's not easy for anyone to escape their abuser, no matter who they are or what their situation is.
However, Ward is definitely responsible for his actions and deserves to pay for them in jail - I'm not disputing that. We are going to have to agree to disagree on this one.
Of course it's not easy for one to escape from his/her abuser, but your original point was that Ward is different from real-life criminals with a past of abuse because it wasn't just in the past, it continued until Garrett's death. So I'm pointing out that just as any person with a horrible past can choose to get help instead of going bad, Ward could've gotten help to deal with his own situation but instead he chose to continue to be subservient to Garrett and do his bidding. To me, that makes him villainous. Unless you are literally mind-controlled, possessed or something like that, there's always a choice, perhaps a much tougher one than the choice normal folks face - but a choice nonetheless.
I agree with "many", but I always roll my eye on "most". I can probably think on a handful of examples that had a reasonably good life and ended up becoming monsters. Power, money, religion and ideology, they can all turn even the best of us into monsters, regardless of background.
I completley agree that they have the potential to make Ward a fascinating character as they continue to explore him, so that would be more interesting than just shipping him off to jail or killing him. I just don't want his actions to be swept under the rug like some shows (cough, The Vampire Diaries) do for their characters, and especially not so they can make the SkyeWard pairing happen. Frankly, klutzy_girl and I are in agreement that he should serve jail time and pay for his actions - the only argument here was over the fairly semantic issue of whether he should be labelled "villain" or not.
I too think a "grey", free agent type Ward who isn't fully loyal to either side, but only to himself, would be the best conclusion. That way he can still work with the team sometimes when their interests align, but no one is going to forget what he did and forgive or trust him, at least not any time soon.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.

I hope DIRECTOR Coulson isn't stuck behind a desk!! I want him in the field where Clark Gregg can have way more fun!
ReplyDeleteTrip! How I've missed him so.
ReplyDeletewonder what skye mean by going down there?

ReplyDeleteI am 100% convinced that Isabelle will leave the team in the premiere and go back to her still alive girlfriend, who is now in hiding.

ReplyDeletegood point pauete i didn't think about that
ReplyDeleteso creel's HYDRA, that's probably why Director coulson wants skye to talk to ward
ReplyDeleteand he's bulletproof, how do you kill someone that's bulletproof, decapitation?
