Agents of SHIELD - Season 2 - Iain De Caestecker interview

Marvel.com: When we left off, we didn’t really see Fitz, so we haven’t gotten a chance to really see how he has reacted to everything from the finale. How much can you say about where his head’s at right now?

Iain De Caestecker:
I don’t know how much I can say, really. All I can say is that at the end of the first season we don’t fully get told what exactly is wrong with Fitz, but we know something has happened to him and we know the last time we saw him he was in the water in an almost comatose state. There’s definitely something that is going to change the balance of how he fits in amongst the team.

Marvel.com: In that finale, two of the key relationships that Fitz had, both with Ward and with Simmons, changed quite dramatically. How pivotal would you say his relationship with Simmons is going to be moving forward, and what is his view of Ward right now?

Iain De Caestecker:
With Simmons, they’ve got such a special bond and relationship that they can always rely on each other. They can always be with each other to support each other with whatever happens. That will always be there for both of them. Whereas with Ward, he was someone that Fitz got close to over the space of the first season. They had a troublesome relationship at the start, [but] they learned to accept what was different about each other and why that made them work well together sometimes. They needed each other and the team. After the revelation with Ward, I suppose Fitz, like everyone else, is feeling extremely betrayed. Going forward with Fitz, there’s also an element of fear--that [if] this happened right in front of them, right under their noses, it could happen again. He’s coming to terms with it, [and] I think that’s something that’s not going to be a quick process.

  2. Awww, I love that Fitz will still be preparing new gadgets for the team. And May and Fitz going on missions together? Please let this happen!

  3. Poor Iain must have been so dazed and confused when they let him out that he complied in not sharing any real spoilers with us ;)

  4. Just a few hours before the premier they finally release an interview with Iain, and it STILL tells us practically nothing! LOL I give up. I'm just gonna wait these final 2 hours and find out for myself.

It's encouraging that apparently Fitz will still be able to do his job as the team's engineer in some capacity, but they're still being incredibly tight-lipped on how exactly the drowning effected him. The reveal of what happened has got to be something really big.
