Agents of SHIELD - Season 2 - Elizabeth Henstridge interview

Sep 20, 2014

"The end of last season Fitz professed his love for Simmons, and she didn't really see it coming and didn't feel the same in that moment. That's something that once that moment's happened, you can't really go back from that in a friendship," Henstridge explains to Zap2it. "You have to move forward, and [we see] how they deal with that. That moment changes them both because it was a life-threatening moment, and neither of them will be the same after going through that emotionally and physically."

She notes, "It was a bomb that went off, and now they have to find a way to recover."

  1. We're going to be knee-deep in angst next season and I look forward to it. Poor Fitz and Jemma.

Also, putting forth the idea of Fitztrimmons again so there's no love triangle.

  2. Ugh just give up on the idea of Simmons/Tripp PLEASE. With the emotional fallout, adding a third party to the Fitzsimmons relationship will only damage it more.

  4. Trip won't replace anyone - the team can work together because all seven (well, eight once we see more of Lance Hunter and know what he's like) are a family.

  5. I'm really trying to respect your opinion on the whole Ward situation, but: all seven, including Ward, are like a family? Seriously? Please tell me you're joking. They may forgive Ward for everything he's done one day, years down the road, after he has done a lot to redeem himself and proven he is a different man, but there is no way he is ever going to truly be part of that team again, let alone part of the "family". If the show tries to portray it that way, it'll become a joke. There's no coming back from the things Ward did - not just to other people, but dropping FitzSimmons into the ocean (which has consequences for Fitz), making a crack about raping Skye and trying to cut May's head open with a circular saw. It doesn't matter if he went through the worst abuse ever: the team all remembers the things he did to them, how their trust was betrayed, and the mere suggestion that he can be their "family" again is absurd. That's just my opinion and I'm not trying to put down yours, or you in general, but... wow. This comment went too far in terms of Ward apologetics, in my opinion.

  6. He didn't threaten to rape Skye at all - I completely understand why people saw it that way because I did at first but go back and listen to the conversation with Raina about ten minutes earlier. It was still gross as hell and he needs to apologize for it but he wanted them to be monsters together. Sex never once came up. Also, again, May tried to kill him with a saw first (which doesn't excuse what happened, of course). They both went too far in that fight. Plus, I've said before that dropping them into the ocean - in a pod that was supposed to float (per Fitz) was the best option because Garrett or another Hydra agent would have killed them for sure. Ward knew that. And yeah, Fitz is going to have a lot of problems - Ward needs to apologize for that too - but he'll eventually recover. This is a show where people come back from the dead.

And yeah, he's part of the family but it'll have to take him years to get back to that point.

And I'm not a Ward apologist (which doesn't even make any sense in the first place because I'm not apologizing for anything). The abuse explains his actions but doesn't excuse it, and as I have said multiple times, he deserves to pay for his crimes in jail and get the help he needs with therapy.

Nothing is ever going to change my mind on this.

  7. I rewatched the episode, and sorry, but the pod was actually supposed to sink. Fitz only said he tried to figure out how, and figured out that the pod is designed to adapt to atmospheric situations, so when it got in the water, it sank.

Also, yes, the comment to Skye WAS a rape threat. ''maybe I'll just TAKE what I want'', those are his words. What he wants refers to Skye, not to her being a monster. And ''take'', well... yeah, there's the rape threat for you. The whole ''monster together'' thing is something Raina mentionned because there's something in Skye's DNA, but truly, Ward doesn't care if she becomes a monster or not: He just wants her.

  8. Okay, I have had enough with some people justifying Ward for the things he's done. You are living deep in denial and it's absurd to think that Ward would EVER be a part of the family again. Like Alex said, you don't betray your family like the way Ward did to the team.

When Ward caught FitzSimmons in the airplane field in Cuba, he could have easily let them go and forget anything that happened, but the fact that he didn't and took them on the Bus proves the point that he DOESN'T care about his family. Now if it was Garrett that had caught them, THEN I would understand the situation and why he did it.

Regarding that May/Ward fight, May was already hurt by the fact that he had feelings for Skye and not her and on top of that he is a mole for HYDRA. Also, he even said that because she was the only person in the team whose physical training and ability surpassed his, May was his biggest threat (he confessed that to Raina). So with all this knowledge that May has and rage, of course she would want to get a lot of punches in him (and stick a nail gun in his foot and damage his larynx). On the other side of the spectrum, Ward was thisclose to slicing May's head (and insulting her along the way).

I still believe that Ward can be redeemed but that shouldn't be in effect for a few seasons. Do I believe that he can be a frenemy to the team? Yeah, sure. Do I believe that he can be a part of the family again like you blatantly said? No chance in hell.

Now, I respect your opinion and you should do the same but I just had to get this off my chest because I have seen your comments like this all summer and wanted to finally put my two cents in.

  9. I too wish to be respectful towards the opinion of Ward's defenders, but as you said, some people are just in denial. Saying stuff like "someone clearly spotted them or else he wouldn't have gone to get them" about the scene where Ward captures FitzSimmons and brings them to the plane, WTF? It's hard to have a discussion with people who refuse to use the actual show, rather than their favorite SkyeWard fanfiction, as a basis for arguments. The next thing you know, we'll be hearing that not only was Victoria Hand actually an LMD when Ward shot her on the plane, but Ward knew this and it was all part of his elaborate plan. Oh, and Eric Koenig was totally suffering from a horrible terminal illness so Ward was actually doing him a favor by killing him.

THANK YOU! Exactly! Everything about this statement is 100% accurate and perfectly describes the situation with Ward. I'm glad someone else understands the bigger picture here. Bless you.
