No one, in my opinion, there isn't any to match the talent of Tatiana Maslany. Though there all talented in their own rights :)
ReplyDeleteAs much as I enjoy the work of most of those actresses, I'm afraid that I don't think any of them can pull off what Tatiana does.
ReplyDeleteIt's really hard to tell!!!!! I mean after Tatiana's performance it's hard to imagine anyone else in the role. Like I couldn't see anyone else play the VD doppelgangers.
ReplyDeleteSarah Paulson could play a role like this. She played so many different characters and I never saw her fail.
The poll is missing a "None" option!
ReplyDeleteWell we saw Anna Torv do it in a way already in Fringe and she was fantastic at it. Equally saw how Eliza Dushku couldn't quite pull it off in Dollhouse (Enver Gjokaj was the real star of that show).
ReplyDeleteI would say someone like Keri Russell, she has shown many different personas in The Americans.
I agree completely, but since the poll is up................Claire Danes (Homeland), Lily Ruby (American Horror Story), and Zoie Palmer (Lost Girl). Even with these three I still couldn't imagine anyone else playing "the clones", but Tatiana Maslany. Nobody, 4 NOW!!!
ReplyDeleteAnna Torv is the only one who could have done it since she actually played 5 different characters in Fringe's third season.
ReplyDeleteYup for Anna!
ReplyDeleteYeah, sorry, no one could do it even half as well as Tatiana. The CLOSEST would be Anna Torv, but I think even she would still be missing certain nuances.
ReplyDeleteI really think Enver could pull it off. Obviously the character would have to be male(Sorry, Kiki).
ReplyDeleteEmily VanCamp and Taylor Schilling could have pulled it off IMO, and maybe Lana Parrilla.
ReplyDeleteI kind of wish it was Enver in the male clone role instead of Ari Millen (no offence to the actor who I'm sure will blow me away next season) but Enver is so good, whether as Kiki (so much fun) or when he was Topher.
ReplyDeleteI would say none but if I had to choose Anna Torv did a wonderful job in Fringe. Lana is amazing too I think she could do it but not as good as Tatiana does.
ReplyDeleteNina or Lana, both great actresses.
ReplyDeleteAnna Torv could do it with ease, brilliant actress.
ReplyDeleteExactly. But then, before actually seeing it with my own eyes, I wouldn't have suspected anyone of being able to pull that off.
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure. It's tough to tell whether one can do something like that unless they are faced with the opportunity. For example, I didn't realize Nina Dobrev was such a good actress until she had to portray various Doppleganger. Similarly, I saw Tatiana Maslany in a guest role prior to Orphan black and even though she did a great job, but I still would never have predicted her potential. It's actually easier for me to predict who could not pull it off, rather than who could pull it off; IMO, the vast majority of actresses on that list would not be able to pull it off. The only exceptions might be Anna Torv and maybe//perhaps Claire Danes,. I think Nina Dobrev is very good, but I'm still not sure she could have pulled off all of those personalities. The only person on that list that I'm not too familiar with is Taylor Schilling.
ReplyDeleteIn the "other" category, I that actresses like Ksenia Solo (Lost Girl) or Eva Green might be able to pull off that kind of role, but once again, I can't be 100% certain. I know people here keep saying Kerry Washington is overrated, but I've seen her do a fantastic job in a wide range of roles (including her SNL stint) and I would also put her in the "she-might-be-able-to-pull-it off" category. Speaking of which, I think an SNL comedienne like Kate MckInnon might also be able to pull it off.
Sarah Michelle Gellar, based on her performance as Faith-in-Buffy's-body in the Buffy episode "Who Are You?". Not to mention as the First Evil in Season Seven.
ReplyDeleteI voted flor Claire Danes because I feel she can play a great variaty of characters. If I had a second option I'd vote for Anna Torv as she did an amazing job on fringe.
ReplyDeleteBut really, Tatiana is simply amazing. And although I think other actresses could possibly do it, she has most certanly done it so well that I cannot imagine the clones as not being portraid by her. She has made them all her own.
Yeah, well, she is good, very good, but saying no one can match her talent is WAY over the top, IMO. You might be able to make a case regarding the actresses listed in the poll (though I'm quite sure Danes would be able to do a good job), but to say no one in the acting community would be up to the task is just not true.
ReplyDeleteI think a better idea is to praise Maslany's work for what it is: very consistent, diversified, intense acting. I don't feel there is a point in trying to compare her acting in Orphan Black to tentative scenarios in which other people would play the parts, simply because that didn't happen.
Only Jennifer Garner! Looks how many people she pulled off in Alias.
ReplyDeleteI was very surprised that Jenifer Gardner wasn't listed in the poll. She of all people should have been listed considering all the rolls she played in Alias.
ReplyDeleteJennifer Garner could give her a run for the money. If you haven't watched Alias you might want to give it a try.
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't compare the two ( don't get me work Jennifer is brilliant and I love her ) as Tatiana is playing fully developed characters well Jennifer is always playing Sydney uncover for a scene or two during a episode.
ReplyDeleteInteresting poll premise :) Tatiana truly is one of a kind, but as far as making me see a different person in each clone...
ReplyDeleteI feel like Lana Parilla could do it because I know she knows how to own a character. Hell, she doesn't even talk the same way from role to role, even in guest roles.
I'm not sure about Anna Torv...I like her, but I don't really agree that we've seen her play different characters on Fringe. She played the same character with different histories and experiences. I think the challenge was more retaining a sense of Olivia-ness in the different universes.
Nina Dobrev...I'm on the fence with her. I found her portrayal of Elena/Katherine good at first, but now I'm thinking it was more the directing than her.
SMG - talk to me when I can watch her in a role and not see Buffy lol.
Emily VanCamp and Taylor Schilling - could probably manage it from what I've seen of them.
I don't feel strongly about Eliza Dushku or Claire Danes either way.
Oh, I've never seen Alias, so I cannot comment on Jennifer's performance.
ReplyDeleteI imagine that the key to
ReplyDeleteanswering this question would be finding an actress who managed to portray very
distinctive characters across different movies/shows rather than necessarily
limiting ourselves to the ones who have already done some comparable work.
I agree Taiana is playing fully developed characters were Jennifer was undercover but i have no doubt if given the same roll Jennifer would be as good if not better than Taiana.
ReplyDeleteAnd Yeah, when are we getting the gang back fr another Alias mission!!!!
Eliza if I have to pick. Otherwise, I honestly don't think ANY of the others (or any other actress that comes to mind) could do the part better than Tatiana does. She is amazing!! Others would be ok, but the uniqueness she gives, I can't see anyone else pulling that off so well.
ReplyDeleteAnna Torv actually did it before Tatiana!! Just not with that many characters.
ReplyDeleteOh ok, I'll give that a try :)
ReplyDeleteLol, it's probably since I love Orphan Black so much, but I do respect your opinion and maybe they could :)
ReplyDeleteNo other actress has ever shown the range and variety within her to portray so many distinct characters. Only Tracy Ulmann comes somewhere close.
ReplyDeleteI agree that Jennifer Garner was fantastic in Alias. From those listed definitely Lana Parrilla, Claire Danes could be very interesting too.
ReplyDeleteAnna Torv, hands down. I'd pay good money to get her and Tatiana on one show, tbh.
ReplyDeleteNone of these, but if I have to chose Claire Danes. Others... maybe Anna Chlumsky, Christina Ricci, Jena Malone, maaaybeee Laura Carmichael, but I haven't seen enough of her to say.
ReplyDeleteNo one! Tatiana is the absolute best at what she is doing and if any other actress did it, the characters wouldn't feel the same to me.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely Lana Parilla. Just look at her OUaT work, her pre-Evil Queen Regina, Evil Queen, Mayor Regina and post-Curse Regina are 4 almost totally different characters.
ReplyDeletesame here. I really appreciate what Tat has done with her characters, but Anna did it even more fascinating before her, had to admit. #GoBolivia.
ReplyDeleteNo, no and no again.
ReplyDeleteI think this is very hard to say; and you can only be sure after you see them. NONE of these actress have played the myriad of characters that Tat has played on a single show, and it is more than just playing different characters altogether, since it is another thing entirely to share so much screen time with other characters played by yourself.
ReplyDeleteBut this has nothing to do with the talent of these other actresses, it's just about the uniqueness of Tatiana's situation. That being said, Anna Torv comes the closest in context, and she did a pretty amazing job. Other actresses, like Lana Parrilla, have shown great range on their shows, but the lack of interaction between different versions of themselves doesn't make for good comparison.
Also, and I love Eliza Dushku a lot! she wasn't very varied in her imprints in Dollhouse. Also I love SMG, but she hasn't the greatest range, but her "The First" in Buffy was great, specially in those scenes against Buffy herself. (which makes me wonder how she was so meh in Ringer tbh)
none
ReplyDeleteI can't imagine anyone but Tatiana!
ReplyDeleteNo one.
ReplyDeletei think Ksenia Solo (Kenzi of Lost Girl) would have come close but nothing beats Tatiana Maslany.
ReplyDeleteNon of these
