This week episode of True Blood, titled “May Be the Last Time” was a nice installment, the story moved forward and the writers continued to bring back old faces (Dr Ludwig, Hoyt…). I was really happy to see Dr Ludwig back, she’s so hilarious. I’m glad the writers are so dedicated, it’s really nice send off for the show, to remember all those secondary characters. And God knows how many they are on True Blood.
“May Be the Last Time” was full of life lessons for about every characters, some of them were more subtle than others and some were more interesting but overall it was a pretty solid episode, with nice characters development. But without the infected vampires going around or the crazy people in Bon Temps, the episode was a bit a slow.
Sookie was the one to receive the biggest life lesson of the episode. After learning about Bill’s sickness, Sookie had only one objective : save Bill. Of course, she felt guilty over contaminating him and her fairy blood is actually causing the quickness of the infection. Finally, Sookie and Bill are getting closer and forgetting their past grudges.
Sookie first contacted Doctor Ludwig, I love her character. She is so little and fragile but yet she seems so strong, and she fears no one… But it seems she actually fears Niall. She went off just when Sookie mentioned him. So, she tried to contact him. I was glad to see Niall back, I’m very fond of his mysterious character. But this week, I don’t really like his mystery. Sookie asked Niall to save Bill and instead of saying fairy magic couldn’t cure Bill, Niall decided to give Sookie a lesson about life being already full of miracles and magic but we just don’t notice it all the time. It was sweet but it could have been done faster.
Niall doesn’t like Bill for Sookie but his lesson only pushed Sookie back into Bill’s arms and they finally kissed. It was about time. Bill is dying so Sookie needs to be with him, it’s tragic and dramatic. The perfect situation for Sookie and Bill, we know how they enjoy that. I really hope Sookie won’t lose bill by the end of the show, they deserve their happy ending after everything they went through… And True Blood never has been that dark as a show.
And Sookie and Bill still ignored at the time that there is actually a cure for Hep V : it’s Sarah Newlin’s blood (aka New Blood soon). Sarah’s flashes of her ex lovers, all dead but Jason, was very funny. Steve Newlin is always such a bitch, being a gay vampire really improved his character.
But those scenes felt a bit long, I understand the writers can’t put Sarah with Eric or any other characters because she won’t survive very long but her character felt under used. Anyways, she was still very funny. Her inner religious conflict was well executed and of course she chose herself because Sarah newlin is the only person who matters for Sarah Newlin.
Eric and Pam had to form an alliance with the Yakuza in order to get Sarah back and to synthesize her blood so they can launch a new product : New Blood, which will cure the vampires from Hep V and feed them. Everything can go back to the way it was.
I’m a bit disappointed Eric and Pam got no scenes in Bon Temps this season, but I’m happy with their new alliance. The Yakuza are fun, but still I don’t trust them. They want Eric to be the spokesperson for their New Blood, that could be fun for the end of the show actually.
Eric and Pam are growing and learning to trust others but Eric seems always a bit suicidal since the beginning of the season. He really looks like he is tired of living and even if there is a cure for his sickness, I’m not sure he will take it. I don’t want Eric Northman to die, but as long as Pam stays alive, I’m okay with the resolution of their story.
One of my favorite parts of the episode was Arlene and Keith scenes. As I said before, I’ve always been very fond of Arlene, she is the heart of the show for me. And the poor woman has suffered so much since the beginning f the show, Keith actually feels so right for her. He can protect her, he is very reassuring and it’s exactly what Arlene needs. And he is very very hot.
It was very touching to watch them dance together, after Arlene said she was infected so they couldn’t have sex. Keith really feel under Arlene’s charm, and they could be a great couple. Arlene always picked weird men, so she can be with a vampire. I’m so glad of what the writers and Carrie Preston did with Arlene, it’s so much better than in Harris’ books.
Hoyt was back in Bon Temps, and went to Bellefleur’s with his new blonde girlfriend. Of course, Jason went to see him, also to prevent anyone to tell Hoyt he actually knows Officer Stackhouse. Jason was attracted by his girlfriend, again. Honestly, I didn’t really care or understand why Hoyt was back. It was touching when he was on the phone with Jason but now, it feels a bit awkward. Hoyt is useless now, I don’t want him to stay… And Jason to fuck his girlfriend again.
By the way, Jessica and Jason got no scenes together since they fucked so we don’t know where they stand now. And Violet is still on her revenge path. She looked Adilyn and Wade in a room, full of kinky accessories they chose not to use. They’re too young and inexperienced to need them now. They will need them after, if they survive Violet. Because, she stopped playing the nice friend and attacked them. Wayne is out and Adilyn cuffed. I loved that scene and everytime Violet appears on screen. She is so unpredictable. it, Violet is my favorite new character, I had no idea how she will respond to Jason and Jessica fucking, but attacking Adilyn to get back at Jessica is brilliant. I can’t wait to see what happens next ! I doubt she will survive but at least it will be fun to watch her attack Jess and Jason.
“May Be the Last Time” was a great installment, it developed the characters, to give them closure for the final season but it lacked of action and rhythm. I wish the Sarah antidote storyline would move faster and also we need a big and powerful danger, I know Bill and Eric’s lives are at stake but we need something bigger to build more tension… Otherwise the last episodes will be quite slow. New blood is what the show needs right now for the three final episodes.

Vampires notes :
• Comebacks of the week : Niall, Hoyt, Dr Ludwig, Steve Newlin and the governor’s head. Ludwig is my favorite. I wish she stayed.
• Niall is always watching over Sookie, and he never intervenes ? How easy….
• Andy and Holly were touching in their scenes together, looking for their kids. The writers really created a great couple, they’re perfect for each other. Will they wed on the final episode ?
• Sookie asked what are they advantages of being a fairy, that’s a thing the show needed to develop before. • Eric killed Sarah’s sister. It was surprising and shocking, it was classic Eric Northman. I loved it.
• Bill's flashbacks were as interesting as the previous ones. Thank you for those wonderful flashback in the final season, we really needed to see Bill getting married for the first time…
• I miss you Lafayette
