“We know all sorts of things about the characters that we haven’t revealed,” he shares, before insisting, “[But] we’re not holding back information on Daryl’s sexuality as any sort of big reveal.
The fact that there’s still a question as to what Daryl’s orientation is in Season 5 absolutely speaks to Daryl’s character; he is a very guarded, very closed-off individual in a lot of ways. We have been able to see him ever so slowly open up and show the other characters aspect by aspect as to what makes him tick. That’s been a very satisfying journey for all of us on the creative side to portray. [And] he’s still on that journey
“This is a character who is going to continue to grow closer to the other characters,” he continues, “[and] let his guard down, and let them see just who he is, in every way.”
Should it turn out that Daryl does not prefer the company of men — an issue Gimple says “is not really addressed” this season — the EP confirms that the show does plan to introduce a gay male character. The timing of said character’s arrival, however, is being kept under wraps.

lol so what if he's gay? Why does it matter? He's still going to Daryl Dixon....
ReplyDeletelol so what if he's gay? Why does it matter? He's still going to be the same old Daryl Dixon....
ReplyDeleteI don't get the point of this interview. They didn't reveal anything, deny or admit.
ReplyDeleteJust another publicity stunt.
And frankly what does ones sexuality matters when running from a horde of zombies? This isn't vampire diaries, i don't care who is pining after whom. I am in it for the survival stuff.
It's Jesus!
ReplyDeleteI honestly don't even care
ReplyDeleteAwesome, but funny that he is the character that I least thought might be gay, but that would be cool! hahaha
ReplyDeleteDaryl's Gay? AWESOME! that could work maybe?
ReplyDeleteI've always thought Daryl to be asexual (which is something represented less in media), and i dont want to push any buttons, but Daryl being asexual just fits his character more and what he's gone through in his past. I have a tumblr so believe me when i know how bad i want some of my favorite characters to be anything other than straight, but for me, Daryl is rocking the asexuality.
ReplyDeleteit doesn't say that he is gay
ReplyDeleteWhy would they mess with the sexual chemistry between Carol and/or Beth? And BTW why no mention of Tara as a gay character? That's sorta sexist.
ReplyDeleteEven if he does turn out to be gay, I don't see how that would change his character. It's not like he's suddenly going to jump on Rick or Ford or go to a gay bar to pick someone up. And I really doubt it would affect how the other characters look at him, I mean Daryl's badass no matter his sexuality.
ReplyDeleteIf he turns out gay the zombies won't be able to eat him or they'd be politically incorrect. Checkmate zombies.
