Plec revealed that, as of right now, there is a crossover in the works. “It looks like we are going to be able to do a crossover in the first half of the season, and I can’t tell you what or who or when because it hasn’t been shot yet, but things are looking good,” she said. The one detail she would share? Despite his current status as an Original vampire, Alaric will not be the focus of this crossover—though Plec is not totally against the idea of that happening in the future. “I just love the idea of Matt Davis playing in the pool with Joe [Joseph Morgan] and Daniel [Gillies],” Plec said when pitched the idea.
But a crossover isn’t the only thing fans (and Plec herself) have to look forward to this year. After more than five years as the showrunner of The Vampire Diaries, Plec is going to make her directorial debut in season 6. Why the long wait? Well, probably because she never wanted to do it before. “I was convinced I would be dreadful at it,” Plec said. “I directed a school musical in college and it was being so terrible at directing that made me realize I was such a good producer and that put me on my first career path. [Laughs] Then I had to remind myself that I also thought I would absolutely positively never be a writer because I thought I was a terrible writer for years,” she admitted. “I just was convinced, ‘Oh, I’m good producer; I’m a s—ty writer.’ And then I actually started writing and I thought, ‘Oh, actually—I’m pretty good at this, at least intermittently good at this.'”
And thankfully, Plec’s years of producing have left her feeling prepared and excited for the task. “The beauty of television, much more so than feature films, is when you are the showrunner, you make all those decisions anyway,” she said. “You choose the casting and the hair and the makeup, and you oversee the art direction, and you sit and you edit each episode, and you talk through every single scene with the actual director in terms of what you want for tone and character journeys and emotion and sometimes even lenses and shots and how you want the camera to move. You can be that specific when you’re collaborating with the director. So we all collectively, the producers and some of the actors and I, talked about it a lot and everybody seemed really excited to see what I could do behind the camera. So I’m gonna dive in and see how it goes.”
Although it is subject to change, Plec is currently slotted to direct episode 15 of The Vampire Diaries.

I guess the Klaroline shippers will go crazy in 3, 2, 1...
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to finally see Nina Dobrev in a 5 minute scene as Tatia during a episode opening during a scene when Esther uses her blood to turn her children and husband into Vampires during the Viking flashbacks.
ReplyDeleteReally,she is?
ReplyDeleteShips everywhere, no one can stop Julie "Fanfiction" Plec.
ReplyDeleteNothing has been confirmed of course but it just makes sense story wise.
ReplyDeletewhy is it so important about her directing?
ReplyDeleteIt's the only crossover that would make sense, so I'm afraid it's not her.
ReplyDeleteThey have gone crazy long time ago.
ReplyDeleteAs long as she doesn't shove Karoline shoved down our throats suring the cross-over and mess with the storylines of the shows,i'm okay!!
ReplyDeleteShe is the main showrunner and will be directing the show after almost 6 seasons,no wonder they are making a big deal out of it!!
ReplyDeleteAs long as it doesn't turn into a shippers' pleasing moment (yes, I'm optimistic) and as long as it serves the story and nothing else, I'm down with it. Pretty sure Stefan would be the one to crossover to NOLA and for some reason I expect Bonnie and Damon too. Just a thought.
ReplyDeleteStill less crazy than Delena shippers though. But not by much.
ReplyDeleteIf you mean all seven that'll never happen. It's more likely than they'll be no love triangles on TVD next season than that.
ReplyDeleteIf theres a crossover
ReplyDeleteno elena or bonnie pls. there the most annoying and whiny characters ever
Wow, what on Earth was able to convince her she isn't a bad writer?
ReplyDeleteMust be one hell of a force.
She likes to honk her own horn doesn't she?
ReplyDelete"Then I had to remind myself that I also thought I would absolutely positively never be a writer because I thought I was a terrible writer for years,” --> okay, this is just BEGGING for a mean joke that I... absolutely... must... resist... making.
ReplyDeleteThey were never un-crazy to begin with.
ReplyDeleteThe only ones left would be Finn and Esther. Tehre's still hope.
ReplyDeleteGreat post and I agree with some of the points you've made! It's just my opinion of course but I don't think Caroline will be goner by the end of the show, since they don't kill off their main characters anymore but with the other side being out of the picture, I could be wrong. Plus Caroline helped plotting against him and his family (and some of them died because of that) so I don't think Klaus would mind if he learnt about Katherine.
ReplyDeleteThat being said, I agree with Klaroline needing to get a better closure than this and I do believe they should do it ... and stick to it!! Really not into that 'relationship'! However, I just feel the story doesn't need another "romantic" (or something) reunion right now. I don't know how it would fit in the story at this point. Plus if we're not to have many crossovers in the future I'd rather see the writers and the characters focus on something else entirely.
On another note I don't see Elena going to NOLA to try and get Esther to solve her problems but quite frankly I don't expect much from the character (but that's just me!) since the writers have removed all her agency about two seasons ago so that would be a nice surprise, I guess. And definitely worth watching as I really miss Elena being the fighter she was in the first three seasons. But like you said these actors are on tight schedule and that's why I don't see Nina or Daniel Gillies crossing over. So I think Stefan would be the one to do it.
I hope this doesn't come out as insensitive as I merely ask to understand, but how does your PTSD stop you watching The Originals? Again, I mean no disrespect, and feel free to ignore me if this comes across as insulting.
ReplyDeleteSo for the first time, we get to see what happens when Plec attempts something that she thinks she'll suck at doing.. It makes me wonder what we've been seeing for the past 3 seasons....
ReplyDeleteToo much domestic violence throughout my life. I had a hard time after Episode 16 of the first season, and then I tried watching again during the final arc. When I saw the promo for the first few episodes of Season 2 of The Originals, I decided that I have to stay away from that show. It just isn't healthy for me to watch.
ReplyDeleteStefan Salvatore is another book character. I'm pretty sure that's what the issue is with crossovers. Tyler's last name in the books was Smallwood, and Tyler is a common first name, so I'm sure there wasn't much of an issue there. It probably took a lot out of the CW's budget to make The Vampire Diaries book series into a TV show, and even to give Klaus his own show, yet people still want more money to be spent on crossovers that never turn out well.
ReplyDeleteI didn't mean that Elena should get help from Esther with solving Elena's problems. Esther has, whether directly or indirectly, caused too much havoc and tragedy for Elena, which is why Elena has a right to play a part in getting rid of Esther for good. Like I said though, this will never happen. Someone has to pay the book publishers, etc. if a name from the TVD books is even mentioned on The Originals. I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure this is the problem. Otherwise someone would have brought up Elena and there would have been flashbacks a long time ago to Klaus breaking his curse and using Elena's blood to sire hybrids. An episode had to be written so that Elijah couldn't even talk about it.
True ;)
ReplyDeleteNever happen. Mikael regards Klaus as an abomination on the Earth and as a disgrace to his pride and honour (which are incredibly important to him) and as underserving of having been born. Esther hates what her children are, same with Finn and whats to destroy them (Finn maybe, maybe could be persuaded in the past with Sage but now I doubt it). Rebekah although as of now in a good place with both Elijah and Klaus has to protect and keep hope a secret so unless Mikael or Esther comes for the child won't be back for sometime. And Kol well he's dead and so far only guaranteed to appear in flashbacks.
ReplyDeleteWow that's just straight fucked up.
ReplyDeleteShe thinks she's not a bad writer. Hahaha, oh, honey, have you watched your show lately?
ReplyDelete"I'm pretty good at this"Have you seen season 5?
ReplyDeleteI like the idea of a crossover but only if it makes sense. In season 5 the originals appeared in 100th episode and it was awful.I hope writers will do it better this time.
Oh ok thanks for clarifying the copyright/financial issues that might be preventing or hindering at least some things like that to happen and the Elena vs Esther situation ;). Now I think I get what you mean ;) ! Indeed, Esther has been anything but 'good' to her. I just assumed she would try to get a super powerful witch considering Damon and Bonnie are in Ghostville rignt now ;) !
ReplyDeleteNo, I think everyone from MF is beyond trying to get help from any Originals. I wouldn't be surprised if they refused to call Klaus when Elena was infected with the werewolf-venom-ripper-virus. I don't think it was ever established why they took Damon's cell phone away when he was chained up. I doubt he could have called anyone who would have come willingly to get fed off of.
ReplyDeleteIt isn't really important. It's about as important as actors taking a seat in the director's chair.
ReplyDeleteLol.
ReplyDeleteI really liked Mikael Malarkey before now I think I straight up love him! And no subtlety isn't really my thing ;) !
ReplyDeleteI also love him and his awesome sense of humor!!
ReplyDeleteYou got a valid point there.
ReplyDeleteIndeed ;) !
ReplyDeleteIdc for the crossover. But god JP, if you're gonna make your debut, make it better than Paul's and I'll be good.
ReplyDeleteWhat exactly was wrong with 18th episode's directing?
ReplyDeleteSo being a showrunner directing an episode is important? That happens all the time.
ReplyDeleteit didn't happen in this show up until now, that's why.
ReplyDelete"That´s why"? What? Don´t be agressive. The article even says it´s not set in stone so if Plec herself doesnßt see it a priority, other people shouldn´t as well.
ReplyDeleteLol Plec, just lol.
ReplyDeleteYou completely misunderstood me.BTW,for someone who doesn't care about her directorial debut at all it seems, why would you care if other people see it as a priority or not.In earlier post of mine,i meant to say that even though it is common in tv shows,TVD will be seeing it for the 1st time how julie plec fares as a director,if that happens at all. After her horrible writing skill, almost everyone including me is skeptical about her.I had no intention to speak otherwise.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your kind words but I´m not offended and I didn´t mean to offend you anyhow if I probably did. Now I get your comments and we are on the same line. I was just wondering why everyone was making such a big deal about her directorial debut after all her, as you pont it correctly, horrible writing. That´s the crux with the internet where you don´t get the intonation of what someone says ;-).
