The core TVD trio—Nina Dobrev, Ian Somerhalder and Paul Wesley—have been in talks with the studio, and so far, only two of the three actors have signed on for a seventh season, E! News has learned. The remaining star (either Nina, Ian or Paul) is unsure whether he or she wants to continue, according to multiple inside sources familiar with the talks. (Warner Bros. does not comment on contract negotiations.)
The Vampire Diaries, which launches its sixth season Oct. 2, has been a hugely successful series for the CW, giving the fledgling network in 2009 its highest-rated premiere ever (5.7 million viewers). Season five averaged more than 2 million viewers, which is still pretty strong by CW standards.
If all three main actors (Nina, Ian and Paul) were to sign on for a season seven, the show would have a good shot at a seventh season pickup. We also hear it's possible that the network would consider continuing the show without all three stars, shifting the focus to some of the other beloved characters.

oh god NO- Please let it end here! - I'm too sick of this triangle!!
ReplyDelete6 or 7 season is good for the show. Just stop it. It's not that good anymore though.
ReplyDeleteomg i hope they all continue if not it wont be the same
ReplyDeletei think they should continue to 7th season and even more if possible
this show made them that famous all over the world and if they dont continue to 7th season or more
alot of hearts will be broken including mine:(
i wonder who didnt sign fro the 3 i suspect that its ian but he will be a full not to sign for the next season because its also help him alot with his foundation
TVD should end after the 6th season.
ReplyDeleteAre they in talks for a full season seven or a shortened and final season is the question ?
ReplyDeleteThey should move on, TVD is holding their careers.
ReplyDeleteSee both Supernatural guys, they will spend 15 years on the same show and will be remembered by only one role, they are less than 40 years old and their career is already over.
I thought I read somewhere that Ian wasn't continuing after this season? I wonder if he is the 'one' who hasn't signed yet. If the show gets back on track I'd happily watch a seventh season. Fingers crossed season 6 gets back to the roots of what made TVD a good show.
ReplyDeleteThat is not true, TVD is giving them a job, and it has made them really famous, continuing the series would make millions of fans really happy. And when they finish the series, wheter it is in it´s 8th or 10th season or whenever, they will be even more famous and they could get more roles in other series or films faster. At least this is what I think.
ReplyDeleteTheir careers at over? You realize this is acting and not sports, right?
ReplyDeleteTVD should have ended after three seasons. That way we would have even better spinoff. Kol would still be alive, Rebekah would still have brain and Klaus would still have balls.
ReplyDeleteI guess it´s Paul Wesley. They´ve been treating his character like they don´t care for years.
ReplyDeleteDon't you worry. I don't recall any of those actors being a clinical idiots. They are in this business like since middle school, surrounded by managers and agents and representatives. So I can strongly suspect they know what they doing and how to manage their own career.
ReplyDeleteAnd why pardon me to ask SPN guys career is over again? Geez...
I wondered when the rumors would start about the show possibly ending after Season 6. E! Online reporters often exaggerate and go off into speculative tangents, so I'm going to ignore all of this until I hear something concrete. If any actor doesn't want to continue on the show past Season 6, it's probably Ian Somerhalder, considering how busy he is and some of the comments he has made that were a little bit unfounded. However, this is only my theory. Actors in general aren't completely emotionally stable. I wouldn't focus too much on tweets or offhand comments in interviews because no one knows what's going on in anyone's minds right now.
ReplyDeleteIf the show does end after Season 6, I won't consider it the end of the world because that reaction would be unhealthy. I hope the show goes on for a Season 7, and for all anyone knows it will. It's best not to get hopes up or feel dejected until an official announcement is made from Julie Plec and/or the CW, who refused to even talk to E! Online when this article was being compiled.
Why would you assume their career is over? Do we not have actors over 40? Since when does a stable, long term acting gig equal failure instead of success? I have no doubt they will have other roles IF they want to. I see Jensen directing but I firmly believe Eric Kripke has an undeveloped project with JA's name on it. JP has already expressed how fun it would be to be on a comic show. Acting is just one facet of their career choices.
ReplyDeleteI approve this message.
ReplyDeleteWell JA has been alot of tv shows before Supernatural, he was basically in one show each year since his soap days until Supernatural. But Its true Supernatural is a show both have been on for a long time, especially with talk of this show going for 11 or 12 years. JA will be nearly 40 when the series eventually ends.
ReplyDeleteIt is interesting that no vampire show ever goes beyond 7 years, both Buffy and True Blood ended at 7. I cant see VD going beyond 8, so yes all three of them will be 7 years lol
ReplyDeleteSeason 6 ratings are going to TANK. I hope that makes them end this show. And I am guessing Nina and Paul have signed on.
ReplyDeleteThis show is dwindling in quality but still managed to get good buzz. Such a shame. I'd love for the actors especially Nina to go do bigger things. I'd rather this Season 6 be the final season and then maybe CW can focus on a new show and really "promote" it.
ReplyDeleteThink that will depend on how the show will do rating wise in S06.
ReplyDeleteIf TVD ends they should send Ian to TO, they have already established a New Orleans connection from his past and he has the Klaus and co connection aswell.
ReplyDeleteI enjoy TVD but that is one of the reasons I would be okay with it ending at Season 6. The CW never seems to put much effort into promoting their new shows, unless it's a spin-off (The Originals, The Flash). I would love to see them actually dedicate some time to promoting a new show with new, fresh characters.
ReplyDeleteI might be in the minority but I think Nina, Ian and Paul should stick with the show as long as they can.
ReplyDeleteI mean, let's just be realistic about this, I can't think of many actors that were in a long running teen-oriented show and managed to find great success or another stable job after that.
As for TVD, I still enjoy watching it, so I'll be happy if they order a 7th season and will watch even without one (or more) of the main three characters.
In what world fucking Rebekah and trying to kill Klaus are perfect reasons to send him there?
ReplyDeleteDamon is last but one person I would like to see in NOLA.
ReplyDeleteGood Lords no, let it end already.
ReplyDeleteI believe Somerhalder is the reluctant one, according to some sites.
ReplyDeleteKlaus has balls, he's just less of a mass murdering psychopath, which is a good thing.
ReplyDeletePaul is probably done, Nina will find a new project because she is cute and Ian has had decent roles over the years. They aren't the best of actors though, but then again once you go CW you never go back. Literally. They just keep on recasting the same people on different shows.
ReplyDeleteI'm talking about sterilization caused by hummingbird infection.
ReplyDeleteWell I personally think they'll manage to convince the reluctant one somehow. I'm pretty sure the show will get a seventh season as any vampire show did in the past lol! Just look at Buffy and True Blood). All joking aside, the ratings are still pretty good after all so I definitely see that happening.
ReplyDeleteNot convinced, it would be the best thing quality wise though but from what I've seen from the spoilers about season 6, it looks like the show will at least try to get its sh*t together. Hoping for the best here but I guess we also have to keep in mind the actors have their careers to build and that maybe they'll try to move on to other projects.
no please stop this show
ReplyDeleteme too I stop to watch this show after the 3 season
ReplyDeleteLol I like it.
ReplyDeleteI almost quit watching this show so many times in the last season. I can't imagine dragging it out for a seventh. The writing has been awful. If it doesn't get better, it's time to wrap it up.
ReplyDeleteAs usual on TV - let's milk the cash cow for all it's worth, no matter how creatively bankrupt it is and how many storylines are being recycled or dragged out ad nauseam.
ReplyDeleteWe may just have the next Supernatural on our hands.
Also, 15 years is a stretch. Other actors who have 2 or more long term gigs:
ReplyDeleteBryan Cranston- Malcolm in the Middle and Breaking Bad.
Julianna Margulies - ER and The Good Wife
Joshua Jackson- Dawson's Creek, Fringe
Scott Bakula - Quantum Leap, Startrek Enterprise
Matthew Fox- Party of Five and Lost
David Duchovny - X-Files, Californication
Courtney Cox - Friends, Cougar Town
Richard Dean Anderson - MacGyver, Stargate
Alyssa Milano - Who's the Boss and Charmed
Katee Sackhoff- Battlestar Galactica and Longmire
I could keep going but the point is, most of these are close to or over 40. They kept doing what they loved until their shows ended or they chose to move on. JA and JP will be just fine.
Yeah, but I guess that´s just buzz to get a higher salary. The character is basically the backbone of the show, aside of Nina Dobrev, and generating that buzz lets the fans riot against the network and studio to keep him around.
ReplyDeleteBut, just a guess.
I wish the trio signs on the dotted line and we get to see a final seventh season..it's a win-win for everyone,CW network and the fans!
ReplyDeleteCan't they just end the show on a high note? People are already starting to get bored so if they don't come up with better stories they should make season 6 the last one.
ReplyDeleteTrue, but I doubt he wants to continue playing Damon much longer. The guy's in his mid-thirties and was on Lost.
ReplyDeleteI agree with many here that it feels like it's time to close the book and start crafting a decent close to this show that was great in the early going and a mess lately at least to me... after the events in the last season which I didn't care for I may give it up this coming season to make viewing room for newer shows on my already crowded watching list. still like some of the characters, but the writing has gotten so stale that I think that might be the way to go for me..
ReplyDeleteThe Love Triangle is over that is for sure, but I think the show couldn't work without one of the main 3. At least the VD couldn't work especially if it's Ian or Nina. As said a couple of days ago a spin off with Alaric or/and Caroline .
ReplyDeleteSAY NO!!!!
ReplyDeleteAs most people have said, it's time to wind things down with TVD. However, if I had the choice, I'd rather see a 7th season than another Vampire diaries spin-off. The actors need to move on to other roles.
ReplyDeleteI think the three of them are probably working together ( two sign { good cops } and one holds { bad cop } off ) to get themselves a sweet new two / three deal and some "The Big Bang Theory" money.
ReplyDeletePaul should sign onto "The Originals" after season six as either Stefan ( bring back Rebekah and have Stebekah journey from town to town protecting Hope together giving the show a global feel well allowing Claire to film in L.A. ), Silas resurrected, or the doppleganger between them.
As much as I agree, if your problem is with the triangle, this kind of resolves it.
ReplyDeleteHe isn't less of a mass murdering psychopath. He just spends his time crying every episode and blaming other people.
ReplyDeleteAlthough the love triangle is over tvd would be pretty weird without any of the three actors, specially Ian because Damon is the favorite character of many fans. In my opinion seventh season should be the last one because I don't think writers will be a keep the quality. If season 6 is going to be like season 5,I think they should end the tv show in the seventh season.
ReplyDeleteI can think of a few just from the top of my head. Sarah Michelle geller (buffy), alyson hannigon (buffy), keri russell (felicity), kristen bell (veronica mars), jessica biel (7th heaven), katherine heigl (roswell), katie holmes (dawsons creek), michelle williams (dawson's creek), joshua jackson (dawson's creek), david boreanaz (buffy/angel)
ReplyDeleteSeems legit to me.The 7th season will more than likely be announced as the final season as I fully expect TVD to collapse on its return this Fall.
ReplyDeleteThe CW won't last beyond 2016 at this rate. With TVD fading, ARROW and The Originals not the hit they were expected to be and the rest of the lineup just being there(The 100, Reign, Top Model, WLIIA, Beast and Dixie), The CW won't go beyond that.
Supernatural is the only true hit and that won't last beyond Season 11(maybe 12) and The Flash should premiere big but it will settle to the typical CW average.
Season 5 was supposed to be the year they pulled it back together and the show improved - but it instead got even worse. If Season 6 is anything like Season 5 they should just end it now.
ReplyDeleteThe CW's owners say that it makes money. As long as that stays true, the network will stick around. They've never been overly dependent on ratings there for their cash. It's a long tail network, created to make properties that can be sold elsewhere, given tie-ins, and just generally cashed in on big time.
ReplyDeleteIf they can't come up with better stories, how would season 6 be "ending on a high note?" They are in a 'low note' position until they pull off a decent arc.
ReplyDeleteWhat I meant with "a high note" is that the show is still popular, but they are systematically driving people away.
ReplyDeleteWell if he's crying about it, he can't be a psycopath now can he? Simply a deranged baby.
ReplyDelete"Argh, why can't this show end already? I don't have the ability to make decisions for myself and I take personal offense at the plots of a television show that has nothing to do with me other than that I used to enjoy it and I fawn over some of its actors!"
ReplyDeletelet the seven be the last!
ReplyDeleteI do wonder if the CW itself will continue after 2016, WB ran from 1996 - 2006. Would they really start a new brand name, not called CW.
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't say Paul's done. He's a great actor and he'll probably branch off and do directorial stuff. But I can see him in a lot of movie roles tbh.
ReplyDelete:) Yea but we all know Julie, and that probably somehow this season we will have again Elena/Stefan - Elena/Damon - i hope not of course, i really want to see a development - but also the writing has a lot of holes (for me the first 3 seasons were the best) now the freshness is gone and a lot more things.
ReplyDeleteThus he's a psychopath, as he can't take responsibility for his actions and has anger problems. Thanks for proving my point.
ReplyDeleteI mean, let's just be realistic about this, I can't think of many actors that were in a long running teen-oriented show and managed to find great success or another stable job after that.
ReplyDeleteYou didn't think this comment through did you? Because TV and films are littered with actors who used to be on teen-oriented shows, lol.
I bet that the person holding out is Ian. That is one guy who is bored of that stale love triangle. I bet the only reason he even signed on for the 6th series was because Julie Plec promised him that he'd be doing something different this time round. I've never seen a person as excited about potentially dying on a show, and going to another dimension away from the rest of the main cast.
I don't know how you measure "great" in terms of acting and I don't want to step on your toes if you are a fan of his, but of the 3 he has by far the least potential and the smallest fanbase. I'm sure he will pop up on our TV screens every once in a while, but he couldn't possibly carry a show on his back judging by his performance on TVD over the years.
ReplyDeleteMy mistake, I forgot that you can never send another character to a cross over show if they have bad history with the others characters, it would never work.
ReplyDeleteIf one of the three were to not come back for the full season, they'll need to bring them back for a few episodes to depart gracefully (or not so gracefully but not leaving the fans hanging).
ReplyDeleteI would not watch the show if the focus went off the main characters. I'm tired of the triangle, but want a certain pairing and am holding out for that. Even Alaric couldn't get me to watch the show if Stefan left.
ReplyDeleteUmm, just because he isn't as big on social media means nothing in the real world. Regardless of the fact that PW joined twitter this past year so no he wouldn't have as big a following. As terms of career apparently you haven't heard Paul directed a film that is receiving critical acclaim and has been described as a shoe in this award season. So basically you are wrong about Paul's career.
ReplyDeleteIdt I could watch the show if all three of them didn't sign. I mean at this point, I want to see Stefan with Caroline, so he has to stay now. Elena's...Elena. and Damon is my favorite. If they started a season 7 w/o the main three it would ruin everything. (I mean from a general standpoint not my personal reasons). NOW, if all three of them signed, and one ended up dying before season 7 was over then, that'd be fair iI suppose. I mean I'd watch that. Hmmm I wonder who hasn't signed yet? Probably Paul. I'm definitely thinking Paul. I wouldn't be surprised.
ReplyDeleteUmmm Arrow's kicking ass. Idk where you heard that. It's definitely a hit. Arrow isn't going anywhere, the ratings are definitely high, and with The flash premiering, CW can stay strong. As for TO, as far as iI know a lot of the fafan base seems excited for season 2, and if the ratings remain, (or get higher) then they'll definitely be a third season. I strongly believe the CW can go to 2018, depending on what other shows they bring to the table.
ReplyDeleteI so miss the WB. Now THAT was a network. Sigh,
ReplyDeletePerhaps I should have been more specific Paul has directed and is acting in a movie that has been receiving critical acclaim... My mention of twitter is in response to how you judge "has the smallest fanbase" as I assumed you judged this by social media and I used twitter as an example. Other than that I am not sure how you came to conclusion that "he has the least potential and smallest fanbase" Obviously, it is your opinion; but, I find it odd that you would use that as the basis of your argument with a PW fan. I don't know how anyone least of all you can judge who will be the breakout star of the group, nor why you would try and argue something that can not be proven. To parphrase your earlier post, Holy crap on a cracker indeed.
ReplyDeleteI think we are all dilussional if any of us think that the traingle is over..JP has always said the love traingle is the basis of the whole show" The triangle is over for now; however, I have a feeling by the end of this season it will be all up in the air once more.
ReplyDeleteI wish the triangle was over, but if you noticed in all JP's interviews she is pretty vague on that point. She uses phrases like "for now" as in Stefan has moved on for now etc. There is no way the network is going to box themselves in with the final pairing until the last couple of episodes of the show especially with last seasons ratings free fall. I think we are in for another round of "Who will Elena choose" sometime this season.
ReplyDeleteStefan has more of connection that Paul has regarding NO. Klaus and he were best friends and he and Rebecca had some serious chemistry and of course Stefan didn't try to kill anyone in NO. LOL
ReplyDeleteJP must play it that way. If she would say Stelena is over she would lose half of her followers, just like they lost people at Reign after Bash wasn't an option again.
ReplyDeleteStefan and Elena established in 5x21 as they walked away from the Travelers that they are friends for now. Of course things can shift but I doubt they will go there, maybe hint it every now and than but nothing else.
I think Stefan has a better connection than Damon with the New Orleans family. Regardless of Stefan's feeling, Klaus loves him as a substitute brother and accepts him ripper and all. Then there is the past relationship with Rebekah [which I ship!] Its also a show were Stefan/Paul would be given more material to work with and maybe show a balance in his good/bad vampire side.
ReplyDeleteAnd that in real life he is dating Phoebe Tonkin and is best friends with Daniel G. it would be perfect for him.
ReplyDeleteI think the difference with Reign is the show runner was very upfront about their being no triangle, that it was a plot device to get Mary to realize who her true love was and that was it. This show is based on a triangle and I know Delena fans are hoping this is it that she chose Damon and as a Stephan/Rebecca fan I wish it were as well....but I don't think it is over, that it can't be over without another go round. It will end by her final choice and two years of Delena does not a show make. Sigh..it sucks but it is clearly not over.
ReplyDeleteI thought Paul was best friends with Joseph Morgan. I think I read somewhere that it was Paul who recommended JM for Klaus to the producers.
ReplyDeleteMost of all the show doesn't have a triangle premises [even though JP is obsessed with them] Paul will thrive without always being hiplocked with a female.
Last season the CW beat Fox and NBC many nights so I guess all the three networks should close according to you. Arrow, TVD, TO and The 100 made plenty of money for the network last season. Especially because the three of them do well overseas and on Hulu.
ReplyDeleteThat's true, he is way past the point where he can play a teenager or an early 20 something. We are starting to get less and less close ups.
ReplyDeleteI know this might be sad to hear, but making millions of fans happy isn't even a deciding factor for actors when deciding to stay or go. It is a business and they are the product, the only thing that matters is what is best for them. The hold out actor may want to move onto other projects, or even get out of acting all together. If they are smart with their money longevity isn't the goal for them.
ReplyDeleteSo true that, and WB had higher ratings for the network. But I guess all network tv ratings are low these days.
ReplyDeleteyeah, just milk this cow utill its dry...just give the show proper ending, dont wait untill the last fans say "no more"
ReplyDeleteWell the WB was the shit. Practically every single show on there was a hit. Plus it was a different time.
ReplyDeleteDitto so many good shows, and yes it was a different time. The only thing the network did wrong was cancel Angel after 5 seasons, so sad, considering how long CW likes to drag shows out these days.
ReplyDeleteWell Angel was never suppose to get cancelled. Like Heroes, and other shows who shared this fate, it was supposed to be picked up to another network, and during the move, they couldn't place it b/c of other shows omicoming on the network, so they had to cancel, b/c there was nowhere to put it.
ReplyDeleteIts a shame, as theres so many tv shows these days go on way too long, and sucks that some shows dont get a chance. Sometimes TV can disappoint.
ReplyDeleteAgreed.
ReplyDeleteI did say that he's a psychopath, not that he isn't one.
ReplyDeleteHe does have the smallest fanbase and I'm by far the biggest fan of his but out the main trio he's definitely the most versatile as a performer. Maybe not a television show, but I hope he gets some cool movie roles.
ReplyDelete
