Following prolonged negotiations that resulted in a brief production delay, stars Jim Parsons, Johnny Galecki and Kaley Cuoco have inked rich new three-year deals to return to the CBS hit, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed. Simon Helberg and Kunal Nayyar are still in negotiations, but an agreement is expected to be reached this week. Warner Bros. Television declined to comment.
The show, which was renewed for three additional seasons through its 10th run, likely resumes production Wednesday after a one-week delay that occurred when the five stars refused to return to work without new deals. (

ReplyDeletethey deserved the extra money. without them the show wouldn't be as successful. it's less about how much pay they're getting and more about making sure they aren't being screwed by people who want them to do the job for as little money as possible. let them walk over you like that and they'll keep doing it.

- theatre actors earn roughly about 83000$ (that IS max even for Broadway actors) a year maximum and pull in A LOT more work than these three in a year. Some of them have about 40 shows a year, live shows Some of them lasting for more than 3 hours.
- Joseph Morgan and Daniel Gillies make 35.000 per episode. Adding up to 770 000 a year.
- Stephen Amell makes 30,000 a year.
Deserved for a half hour comedy? Are you INSANE?!
Its about time! I love this show but its hard to have patience when they already make a ridiculous about of money per episode as it is. I mean I wish I was making half of half of the $325,000 they were making.
ReplyDeleteThe number of people who watch this show far outnumber the people who watch broadway theatre. Hell, the number of people who watch this show outnumber the shows of every actor above. It has received more than one multi-season renewals, and is extremely profitable.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry, but what you think is "fair" in this instance is highly subjective. Not to mention, Arrow and The Originals are still very new in comparison to TBBT. Your comparison just doesn't work because they're not even in the same league.
I hate how people like you are acting that it's these actors that make the show.
ReplyDeleteIt's the writers, the editors, the camera crew. Everyone involved deserves a piece of the cake and yet the cast takes the biggest cut.
Know what? The effort this cast has is virtually none compared to the people I named above.
The number of viewers shouldn't matter, they performance remains the same and might warrant a small raise. But this isn't just a small raise.
This is blowing things out of proportion.

Τhat's why I don't care about the actors, but only for a show and its characters. Actors can get greedy by overestimating themselves and the popularity of their show and only look out for their personal gain (which is totally understandable), and they hold the luck of the show they are on their hands. Which wouldn't be the same if they depart. I've seen people using the term extortion, and I quite agree. Not just for this particular situation, just speaking in general.
ReplyDeleteWith that being said, and regardless of how much money the network make because of the show, still doesn't change the fact that this is quite a big amount of money they're getting. I can totally see the two leading actors getting that sum/more than the others, but in no case I can fathom Penny (sorry I don't remember her name) being paid equally along with the other two/three. Of course the dynamic of the show would be ruined if any of them don't get what they want (and again totally understandable), which also means they only care about what gets into their pockets. Hence why I don't even bother learning their names and whatnot. They are just people portraying characters whose I might like or not, just as long are on a show I'm watching.
I simply hate this kind of entitlement.

I agree with you. They are so many actors, and in their defense now it's the perfect chance to solve their life problems, once and for all. Who knows if any of them will ever get another break. But the fact they wouldn't hesitate to blow everything up if they don't get what they want, is the most troubling thing for me. It shows total disrespect and lack of consideration, not just for the people who helped them get here but also (and most of all) for the fans. I might even stop watching because this is the second time the same thing happens with TBBT. I remember being pissed then as well.

If they complain again next year then they should just fire them. Greed is not a good quality to have and every person who has it should attempt as quickly as possible to remove it from his character.

ReplyDeleteIt's an insane amount of money, but rest assured that the networks are greedier and make a lot more with the show, so I'm happy to see the actors taking some from the media moguls.

ReplyDeleteGuys, it's not a question of worthiness. Not at all. Is it ridiculous? Of course it is. Do they deserve? No, not even Meryl Streep deserves that much money for acting. The point is: CBS also doesn't deserve it. And the network was not about to share the profits with the crew, they would keep it for themselves. So the people who are in a privileged position - Parsons, Cuoco and Galecki - decided they wanted to share in the profits. They hired lawyers who were very good at negotiating, they got the deal. Period.
ReplyDeleteDoes that make them awesome human beings? No, it doesn't. But I also don't think it makes them horrible people. First of, we have no idea what was really going on and if they were willing to push the delay any further. Second (and most importantly), did they take money from anyone? Yes, from CBS. Is that a bad thing? I don't see how it could be.
I just want to point out this is not a question of either keeping 22 million dollars for themselves or giving it away to the crew, to charity, or to good will. It is a question of getting the money or having it stay in CBS's hands. In other words: the situation itself is screwed up. You choose between the lesser of two evils.

ReplyDeleteRemember that the cast of Friends each earned 1 million an episode for their last couple of seasons, and that was 10 years ago. For the number one watched show on television, this isn't unreasonable. The network's making a fortune, why not the actors?.

ReplyDeleteI know it's a ridiculous amount of money, but last time I checked the way it worked is, people deserve to be paid whatever someone is willing to pay them. This is hardly the most someone's earning from a TV show. There are people who were paid more and who subjectively "deserved" less.
