Stalker - Pilot - Advance Preview

I don’t usually keep up with all the pilot news until the networks actually announce what they are picking up. However, on one occasion, I did glance at some of them and Stalker was the only one that caught my eye. I expected quite a bit from the pilot, and it certainly delivered.

The show does what it says on the tin. It’s about stalkers. Maggie Q plays Lieutenant Beth Davis, who is in charge of a very small unit called TAU (Threat Assessment Unit). Dylan McDermott plays Jack Larsson, a cop from New York who decided to move to Los Angeles and join the unit. The only other character of note is Perry (who has recently been made a recurring character), but I’ll come onto him later.

Maggie Q is a little stale, though I think for the character plot, it works well. There is one scene towards the end that I really enjoyed that really refined her character, though there is some good development throughout. There’s definitely a lot to explore about Beth’s character, particularly why she joined the unit and what happened in her past.

McDermott however, shines way above his co-star. He plays the character fantastically, and Jack’s development is far better than that of Beth. There’s a lot of ambiguity to both characters, but Jack’s is far more interesting to watch than Beth’s.

Erik Stocklin plays Perry, a sophomore in college who isn’t exactly on the best of terms with his roommate. To say much more would be a spoiler, but what I will say is that his story is engaging and I am definitely looking forward to seeing it develop more.

There were so many things going on in this episode – don’t look away for even one second (I made this mistake and ended up having to rewind). I enjoyed every minute of the pilot, and I can’t wait to see more. Want to see a promo? Look below, and make sure to check out Stalker, Wednesday October 1st at 10pm on CBS.

  1. Didn't know Maggie had a series coming up, and with Dylan McDermott in the mix, I'll definitely be checking this one out now that I know.

  4. I am looking forward to this, though the promo shows they will be handling three stalking cases in the pilot, which seems a bit much.

BTW, aren't there two other detectives also? What are these like?

  5. Finally Maggy Q back on TV and Dylan McDermott as another plus, I am really excited about this! There a lot of positive voices about this, I cannot wait for the Fall season to start.

  6. so its procedural, right? Hate procedurals...

  7. Can't wait to see that. Kevin Williamson is a great writer.

  8. Thanks for the review. This is one show I'm really looking forward to. Like both of the leads and the promos looked interesting.

  9. It was only two, from what I remember (I watched the pilot two months ago).

Yeah, there are. But they're barely noticable.

  10. Yep, it's a procedural.

  11. In the promo it seems there are three: one with the girl that ends up dead, that boy Perry with the creepy roommate and the girl that ends up in the hospital.

I barely saw the two co-stars in the promo so I already expected that. Don't really care though as I don't know the two actors and Maggie and Dylan will be the stars anyway.

  12. LOVE Dylan McDermott. Looking forward to this show, for sure!

  14. It must be good, every time i've come to the SpoilerTV homepage today this article has been pushed to the top of the page haha. I was already looking forward to this show, now I'm looking forward to it even more.

  15. I really like both of the leads and the reviews have been great and all but I am just not willing to get into another procedural, especially one with such a dark subject matter. I am skipping it for now, but maybe, just maybe I will catch up with it later on if the stars align in that direction.

  16. The heir apparent to CM. CBS would be smart to keep Maggie Q at forefront - they need to balance all the "old"-male led procedurals with dynamic intelligent women (see also CSI: Cyber). The key will be balancing stories so it isn't a "woman in distress" every week, though I suppose that kind of kept SVU on the air for years.

  17. Not usually a fan of procedurals but im really looking forward to this and Scorpion.

  18. One of the pilots I look most forward to! I mean Kevin Williams, Maggie Q and Dylan how to miss this!? But the issue with this type of shows is to keep the characters and story intense and interesting enough and keep it believable(as much as possible).

  19. That would have been a good paragraph. Why didn't I think of that?

  20. Check back soon for my preview of Scorpion

  21. When you look at the facts (particularly the ones in the pilot - which can also be heard in the promo), and combine that with knowledge of how terrible people can be, it's definitely believable. The trick, especially here with a show about stalking, is to ensure that every week the cases aren't similar to ensure it doesn't get boring.

  22. I know there are awful people etc, but K. Williams knocked over the line while doing The Following. I'm affraid it can happen here as well.
This is for sure on my watch list, but with a high horizont of expectations the fall can be pretty hard. Hoping it won't happen with this show.

  23. This show is trash. Shows like these is not what TV needs. After the garbage The Following ended up being i was hopefull that Kevin Williamson did something good again. Nope, he does trash like this.

  24. Thanks Bradley! I might catch the pilot but this might be just to real,to dark for me.

Dylan had nothing worth watching since AHS ... His last show sucked badly hopefully he rebounds with this one.. If this show wants to be a hit. Kill off Maggie Q character quickly

  26. I'm pretty sure she's the star of the show so you can throw that wish right out the window. I hate it when people say stupid things; especially when they certainly know it won't happen.

  27. Sounds good. It seems to be similar to Criminal Minds, which I love. I've loved Maggie Q since Nikita & Dylan M is a great actor as well. This show, I'm sure, will be great.

  28. It's a bit similar to CM. Hopefully they won't feature murder as prominently, given that it's about stalking. As long as they avoid going down the route of killing people every week, it should be fine.

@davesimmons although I do and appreciate your opinion. I do actually know that they are the main characters and such so nothing is changing. However this is a site of opinion and in no way shape or form was I disrespectful with mines. It was my opinion about two people at their job which is acting and I critique their work. My comment was to invoke other people opinion and perception of said work and communicate and try to see things in others eyes maybe I'm wrong maybe I'm right. But dude it was not an attack chill.. If you really wanna speak suggest a program or look up something else on said person to try and change my view instead of being an a-hole
