Hey All,
As you know after each episode we post polls so that fans can vote and discuss the episode. We decided that for our most popular shows to collate the poll ratings and to display the poll rating average for each episode so that you can can compare how readers rate episode.
We also display the Total Number of votes each episode receives along with the overall season average and total votes.
You can see the table for 2013/14 here.
We rate each episode by giving each rating a points system eg Awesome = 5, Great = 4, Good = 3, OK = 2, Poor = 1 and Awful = 0. We then work out the average rating.
NOTE: We only do this for the Top 15 Most Popular Shows on the site along with 1 New show. This year we've selected The Flash.

wonder how this is possible since BATB is off the air till 2015. Is this only for the S2 episodes? Will they be doing reruns so we can vote on each episode? Unless this has already been done and if so sorry

ReplyDeleteI wonder why The Big Bang Theory is not included. Is it really not in the top 15 popular here on the site, while it is #1 series on TV?

ReplyDeleteIt's not based just on pure votes. It's based on a number of things such as comments, pageviews, Video plays, twitter/facebook/G+/Tumblr activity etc.

ReplyDeleteWhatever happened to Person of Interest? It seems to have dropped significantly from last year. I don't watch the show but I hear good things about it. Are there really so many haters who are unhappy with the show?
ReplyDeleteI've been wondering about it as well (and I know I'm not the only one). I'd say: People who didn't like the changes in Season 2&3 probably won't be around anymore or still not satisfied, but the latest poll results are weird and seem to be much different than in Season 3 and also the impression in the comments is different as well. The people I know - who enjoyed Season 3 - still say they're enjoying it.
ReplyDeleteSo, I can't really explain the sudden ENORMOUS surge in Awful-votes - interesting thing, though: When I observed it on episode 4x02's voting, the awful percentage was very high early and slowly declined while other options got more votes.
The "how" question remains - it'd be interesting if someone (who watches lvie) could observe the poll's early hours. I don't think anybody would put effort into manipulating, but still... (sounds like paranoid :D)
Just some large groups of people who hated carter dying. They seem to latch onto any POI poll on the net and vote awful for them all, not just us. They are all over Tumblr etc and group together to downvote lol.

Ah, thanks for clearing that up :) I'm not really that deep into the community (actually just here & sometimes looking on imdb)... well I don't really know what to say. I'm just surprised there are people putting so much effort into stuff like this...

ReplyDeleteThat's pretty pathetic actually. Sadly it happens and POI is not the first show that has haters because of a cast exit. It is surprising though that they are downvoting only now, wasn't Carter's exit mid-way last season?

Given that so many people are voting awful on every episode - how in the world are the averages above derived? If 50% of the votes are for "awful" (-0-), how can the average be consistently above 4? Or are the numbers being adjusted to what you think they should be?

ReplyDeleteCurious how you determined which were trolls and which were genuinely unhappy viewers. I'm guessing, given the averages, you simply deleted all the "Awful" votes from consideration.
ReplyDeleteI have access to backend tools that allow me to see where votes are coming from. Not all awfuls are removed, only those that come from certain places.

ReplyDeleteFor me it wasn't Carter dying. I became disenchanted the minute they added Shaw. And became even more disenchanted when they then made Root a major player. I could've almost lived with the war between the machines but for the presence of Shaw and Root.

ReplyDeleteMore people give their vote to Arrow than AoS. At least it people want to Talk about it. I like This season already better than S2 so far, even tough I already miss the core trinity.
ReplyDeleteI am enjoying this season but I still feel that Season 2 was vastly superior so far. But maybe it's a personal preference.
ReplyDeleteAgree about the preference, I do feel that S2 was more epic introducing Sara and leading up to Deathstroke and finally tying in with the flashbacks. What I like now more is that they are opening up more threads that could go either way. I enjoy to some extent that they are breaking up the core trio to give room for development because I can't wait to see them coming back together. It's like this world is becoming bigger, almost like a consequence of what happend the past 2 seasons - and somehow I enjoy that part of watching a serialized show most and why I'm having a tough time with The Falsh.

ReplyDeleteI agree. I don't think anything can top the way Sara was introduced. Such a ground breaking character for Arrow. Then there was Manu Bennett as Deathstroke. Season 2 was great. But season 3 has more well balanced episodes imo. They are using their regular characters more wisely than last season. Last season Moira was kind of lost with the mayor election arc, Thea did not have much to do until Slade kidnapped her, Laurel was under utilized the first half of season 2 then second half was more about her family drama than villains.
ReplyDeleteOnly thing I am disappointed this season is Ted Grant. I hope my opinion changed with next episode. I don't think this version of Ra's Al Ghul can top our Deathstroke though. I miss the core trio too. But they are giving good side developments for both Diggle and Felicity so I am happy about that.
It makes me smile that Arrow's 'Secret Origins of Felicity Smoak' was the highest rated so far for the season. Felicity is my favorite character :)

ReplyDeleteSadly thanks to Social Networks the bashing of TV shows is very common. The same happens now with Once upon a Time actually. I think it is ridiculous if a show has to ask their fans on twitter for some good sense. Shows are produced to entertain. If people don't like them, they should stop watching instead of disparaging them.
The Mentalist S7x07 is the highest rated episode: 4.86 :)

Mentalist getting a good amount of votes and also high overall ratings (maybe the highest average of all the shows you have listed?) Why is this show getting cancelled?!!
ReplyDeleteI think, "cancelled" is not the word. Cancellation is usually due to some problems with cast, ratings, money or whatever. But in case with TM the situation is different. SB and RT had 7-year contracts initially. And Simon lately said that he was asked if he wanted to continue, but he thought that it was time to stop. And frankly speaking I understand it and I'm so glad that TM has a rare chance to end on a high note. It's really an uncommon thing for shows.
ReplyDeletethe word "canceled" is not appropriate as JeniPL said. As for the high scores I think it's because season 7 is exactly what fans want, especially after 6year waiting.
ReplyDeleteMany people don't know that TM fans fought so hard for this season, we had a campaign with different projects to show CBS how much we love our show, which I believe CBS didn't expect before. Simon and Other cast said S7 is a gift for fans, and it really is:)
I can see how Shaw could rub people the wrong way, I still like her though. With the show's transition focusing more on the machine's story, it only makes sense for Root to become a fully-fledged member of team machine.
ReplyDeleteI do believe portions of the Person of Interest fanbase is having a hard time coping with the show's transition from 'procedural with serialized aspects' to 'serialized'. I think it's a positive change, but it is a change none-the-less so it's understandable. Carter's death was just the first visible sign of this transition.
I've just noted that the tables are not "correctly" updated. For example just I've voted for episode S07E11 of Castle and today 598 person voted where in the table is reported 584. It seems not probable that in few hours 14 person voted for the same (old) episode.

ReplyDeleteSince I loved Taraji on POI, I tried watching Empire, but I disliked it so much I couldn't make it through a whole episode. However, I'm not making remarks about it on the Empire comment area nor did I vote it down. I just don't watch it. I was sad about it too, since I tend to like her acting a lot usually.

ReplyDeleteTo be frank, I don't care. I watched Arrow mostly for Felicity, Moira, Thea and later Sara. Now they killed off Sara and Moira, stuck Felicity in an annoying romance arc which robbed her of any agenda of her own and Thea's characterization is all over the place. So, bye-bye Arrow. You used to be fun, but the writers mucked it up by turning it into a typical CW show.
ReplyDeleteOh how much one's opinion can change after few months. LOL. I am pissed at the way they are using Felicity and Diggle. Diggle is completely sidelined and instead of concentrating on Felicity working on ATOM suit they reduced her to shallow romantic interest. Oliver is almost unrecognizable. I am going to give season 4 a chance. If I can't enjoy I will give up.
ReplyDeleteDid you hear Caity Lotz is coming back in the spin off show and might reprise the role of Sara. Will you watch the show? I am not sure whether to be pissed or not about this. They killed off Sara and made a mess of this whole season to make Laurel BC. Now Sara is going to live. Then why couldn't they make Laurel BC while Sara is alive. If only they had some creativity.
I don't think that my opinion changed...I always had the same opinion concerning the strength and the weaknesses of the show. Sadly, though, everytime the writers claimed that they have "learned" something, they made the things I disliked worse and erased the aspects I liked. Sara was just the last straw.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I'm aware, and I certainly will take a peek, but I am not optimistic about that one. It sounds a little bit like DC noticed "oh, Marvel and Netflix plan the defenders, we have to come up with something similar".
Still think that they should have simply killed Laurel.
Guggenheim keeps teasing good scenes for Diggle and Felicity, and then they turn out to be with Laurel or Ray.

I meant my opinion changed. At the time this comment was posted I had high hopes for how the show will move forward once Oliver is declared dead. Now it's all a mess. I am tolerating Laurel more this season than the last but over all the enjoyment I used to feel when I watched Arrow is gone. Their dependence and eagerness in introducing as many masked heroes and villains from comics have ruined the characters I used to love. May be season 4 will be better once all these new masked heroes will find a place in the show. I will watch till then. We do have AoS for superior story telling.

As much as I can tolerate her in Arrow I still think they should send her away with Huntress to make BoP off screen. Arrow will only benefit from the absence of that character. Kill Laurel Lance what are you saying? They will kill Diggle, Felicity, Quentin, Roy and Thea for her but they will never kill LL.

ReplyDeleteSo the best shows (poll rating) according to the fans of this site are The Mentalist, then Agents of Shield and The Flash tied at second. If only real ratings could be alike the fans ratings. But I have a feeling that this season of AOS and Flash will sell a lot of Blue-Rays. They are perfect shows to binge watch.

Conclusion: Season Premiere drew in the most votes for the return of the show. Top 3 rated episodes were the heaviest mythology episodes where the stakes were the highest. Two of the top 3 rated episodes featured deaths of significant main/recurring characters. Two of the top 3 also feature flashbacks to the origins of The Machine. Formula for success: High stakes, heavy mythology, flashbacks and fatalities it would seem...

keep range between 200 - 600 but Angel Heart has grabbed around 4000. Honestly
for the first day of poll this episode had been given around 300 votes and many
people voted for 'Awful'. But a day later the minions had found out about it
and they had considered it a personal challenge! If someone suddenly dislike
the episode where precious, wonderful, adorable, matchless angel is presented
they should be protect him in front of the rest of the unjust fandom! Literally
two hours later the results changed suddenly. The minions have had to vote
plenty that the percentages in the column "Awful" put down to an acceptable level. Neither one episode of SPN or other show had been given so
many votes here - isn't it funny? As a result we have a distorted picture of
'choice' of SPN' viewers.

ReplyDeleteMinions are only a part of SPN fandom and a small part of all viewers of Supernatural. Most viewers don't share their tastes.
