    I love this show already. Definitely shipping Jamie and Claire, but I wish she would stop trying to escape.

    Loved episode 4. Loved the field hockey. Dougal seems to have a love /hate relationship with Jamie, why?

    Leave it to men to come up with a *game* that involves beating the ever loving crap out of each other. Had to make Outlander one of my currently airing favorite shows on the nomination page. Decide I loved the actor that play's Rupert's voice. :-)


    Was there a slight difference in Laogharie's story in tonight's ep? I had forgotten about the political quagmire of Jamie's presence at the Oath Taking. That was intense. :-) Loved that they carried her habit of fussing at her patience through. Aww heck I just loved the ep. Colum looks better with the beard. Dougal is a deliciously complex character...It's a really interesting experience watching him remembering some of the bullet points on the road ahead. That scene was really interesting to watch with the future in mind as well. I am having so much fun.

    There's not enough good things I can say about that show ! I'm addicted !! Every sunday morning I'm excited to wake up to watch it and look forward to a new episode every time !! Story - costumes - sceneries - dialogues (especially glad they speak some Gaelic ) - actors.... PERFECT

    I just binge read the "Outlander" yesterday, almost all of it... haha. Now it's a quite different experience watching the show after having read the book, both in good and a bad way... haha. They changed the order of events a little, but not much. The most important scene, of course, being the one of Jamie's (non)oath, lol. I just thought scene felt more intense in the book. But that's one of the cons of reading before watching I guess,.. All in all, that was a good solid episode. We learned a lot more about Dougals controversial charachter, but still it's just a tip of the iceberg, he is such a multi dimensinal character, really. Jamie... oh Jamie... we have so much more to learn about him either, so much more to... see.... hahaha. Well, having read part of the book I wonder how much of it will make it to the screen. I hope a lot, lol. If you know what I mean.
    Sam is a great actor, though I think something's lacking in terms of acting, he's a little raw... but it's nothing that can't be helped and fixed with him gaining more experience and getting more into character... Well, he IS an eye candy that's for sure, and that helps a lot, haha.
    The show is great. Loved the openening scene, though it wasn't in the book. And the game wasn't either, if memeory serves me right... but both scenes are great addition!

    I don't think the scene with a potion actually took place in the book. But I really didn't like the fact Claire gave Laogharie the potion, this fact will probably come into play later, when certain happening happen... you know.

    Poor Claire is gonna have nigthmares with the vision of Murtagh's (or it was Rupert I don't seem to distinguish them) low parts hahaha.

    Can someone explain me how come that Jamie has ended the gathering alive? I haven't understand all the scene. Has he made the oath or not?



    I'm still laughing at Calire's telling Loagharie what to do. Very Wizard of Oz xPPP

    i agree but if the goal was to strengthen motivations for what happens down the line it will certainly do that. But it was a really bad idea Claire; a really bad idea. and kind of stupid on her part. But i think the scene was placed so that i could understand why she'd stop thinking and do something like that.

    Its been a really long time since i last read the book. I've read it three times i think. And for a couple of the reasons u mentioned i decided to wait until the tv season to do so. i'm enjoying hitting moments where i can't remember the outcome from the book. like the non-oath taking. Murtaugh was explaining the problem and I realized I'd forgotten about the scene and could NOT remember how he got out of it...so the scene was really intense for me. i keep thinking its safe to start listening to the book again but then i realize I'll get ahead of the show. (strongly recommend the audiobook if u're into that format at all)

    he didn't swear the oath the other clansmen did. in fact he specifically said he couldn't. But what he did do was promise his obedience, and loyalty to Colum AS LONG AS he is in MacKenzie territory. So no need to kill him because he stated he would make no move against Colum and while also making clear he was NOT in line to take the 'throne'

    I too looked up Shinty but it was after I made my post, and did not feel it was necessary to come back and correct it. However, I know in the 18th century, the name of the game was not Field hockey.

    I feel Sam is the perfect Jamie. He plays him exactly, as I remember. Read the book 6 times,
    Jamie keeps his thoughts to himself, is highly intelligent, oh and as you say , well my words, beautiful!!

    Just watched it. The closing credits rolled, I stared at the screen and my first reaction was - nothing. The second - "now take a deep breath! Don't forget to breathe!"

    Particularly liked the scene between Dougal and Claire as Geordie passes....then again in the "dungeon." "You've seen men die....by violent means?" Fascinating!

    Really? I think that Sam Heughan is spot on, more spot on then I thought it possible. He is like a rock, but whenever he smiles his more boyish side becomes visible, which is a great reminder how young (for modern standards) Jamie actually is.

    What I'm fascinated by is that he looks so young at certain lighting conditions, almost younger than his character is. And than, all of a sudden, he looks older than he (Sam) actually is. Weird...

    It makes no sense to come to your rival to get a love potion--in the book she went to Geillis to get (and received) a bad omen thing for Claire. And it makes no sense with the character of Claire to pretend to deal in "magic." But then again she is fussing at seriously injured people for hunting--what is she a vegetarian all of a sudden or just too stupid in the show to remember that people hunted and boars are really dangerous--and can't be bothered to care that she nearly got Jamie killed. A bit of remorse in her and upping the 18th century stakes would go a long way to providing her motivation and character. The hunting scene should have felt dangerous, not scolding. I'm cool with changing things (I wish they'd start making cuts) but If they are going to change things they should do it in way to make things more interesting with higher stakes, not less.

    She just wanted to get rid of Laoghaire. I think I get what they are trying to do there. I never really liked Laoghaire in the books, not because she was written as an unsympathetic character, but because she was so obviously written with the goal to make the reader dislike her, that she is nearly a caricature. I have the feeling that they try to balance this out a little bit for the show, making Laoghaire's actions a little bit more understandable. It would certainly be a good change.
    I guess it is a little bit difficult to show how dangerous a wild boar is on screen. Which, in a way, explains why Claire is a little bit clueless...it is one thing to intellectual know that there is a danger and another to experience it.

    I just watched episode 4 and was wondering if it really was Sam who said "je suis pret". It sounded like a different voice altogether and vey French and then he switched to his Scottish accent so quickly, I thought it couldn't have been him who said it. Thoughts?

    Someone had mentioned on FB that he spoke French so maybe it was him. I never read the books and I can't remember it being mentioned in the series so far.
