The quality of the show is simply stunning. It captures and enhances the best of the seriousness of Claire's plight and the growing friendship between her and Jamie. The cinematography is gorgeous, the settings and the dialogue is truly wonderful.
Ron Moore really understands the story and is masterful in transfering it onto the small screen.
The guy playing the priest didn't really need to utter a single line of dialog to give me the heebie geebies! Seriously, if my Mom took me to church and that guy was the officiate she would have had a major fight on her hands getting me back there. I do know that the approach of having the faithful so terrified of God's wrath that they would never do anything evil was a popular approach to religion. But .
I was going to make a comment about Young Jamie completely missing Laoghaire's interest but then I realized Claire was doing the same thing in that scene. :-D
Mrs. Fitz is the MVP for standing up to the creepy Priest.
What's the name of the character the actor in the first couple of pictures plays? His name refuses to stick in my mind. He looks so neat and put together in these pictures. :-)
When Claire started to tell Mrs Fitz that she is from the future, I started to find something to hurl at the tv. Luckily, when I fund it was revealed that it had been only her imagination :))
Really great TV adaptation, the points where they divert from the book serves well to the story. I must also note that considerint that it's a Starz show up till this point they are very restrained on nudity. I was afraid that they will use every occasion to show some skin (everywhere when it can be justified, like eg. when Geilie convinced her husband to have mercy on the boy), but they are pretty mature in this. (I'm not prude, just don't like when nudity appears like it's on a ticker: "we haven't shown anything juicy in the past twenty minutes, let's bare her chest")
This episode felt like so much filler, some book filler, some new filler, but almost all filler. I can take a bit, we need the light and shade, but there's no light. It's all so slow and feels like exposition--like cliff's notes of major interactions bound up with scenery and costuming, but little consideration for getting anywhere. There's a lot of plot to get to, and I for one am ready to see some.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
The best episode so far, stunning show.

ReplyDeleteI'm not looking at the photos now, but I think Angus Mhor is first... maybe?
ReplyDeleteEach pic is labeled with the character name if that helps :)
thanks. My brain flicked on and I spotted the labels.
ReplyDeleteGlad to see so many people liking this show. Buzz is definitely growing and deservedly so.
ReplyDeleteI especially loved the beginning...nice play on the expectations of the audience. Also, a really good way to keep Frank in the picture.
