I'M A MESS. The entire episode had my heart racing. Paul Briggs, I love you so much, but WHY? I cannot believe he set Mike up to get killed! I don't know what I found more surprising, though. That or that Charlie had the tape! Though I am SO happy Charlie has it because now she knows. I was tired of her being in the dark (though I don't know if the Odin thing will come up again). Such a great episode.
Wow! I had a feeling towards the middle of the episode it was Charlie who had it. I had been rooting for Briggs to figure this out until the moment he set up Mike to be killed! I am so annoyed with Paige! I get she is pissed about Lena and Mike should of told her but she needs to calm down about this, I believe Mike lied because he knew it would kill Paige and he feels guilty about not saving her. He is still the same Moke she is just mad he isn't
Finally someone gets what Mike is doing! I am so tired of people saying he's a bad leader or a douche. In fact Mike is the only one who is clear on the op, that the cartel has to be shut down and that has been his goal since day one. Briggs tried to set Mike up to be killed on a hunch he had, Jakes continually puts up roadblocks just despite him, Paige is using Mike's feelings for her against him and Johnny totally lost sight of his job and started sleeping with Carlitos sister! Who's the bad one here? It looks like the only one Mike can truly trust is Charlie.
This episode killed me! Why Briggs??? I really love this character, and I'm glad that he changed his mind in the end, but the fact that he actually schemed to do have Mike killed based on a hunch was shocking. The scene with Charlie and Briggs at the end was amazing. He really should have told her the truth instead of keeping up the charade. Although, I guess it really can't be that easy to confess to someone that you killed another person.
Honestly, I blame nearly everyone in the house for the way things have turned out. I had a huge issue with Charlie anonymously playing the tape for Briggs; it was a selfish decision, was clouded by emotion. She was so obsessed with getting Briggs confide in her, that it never occurred to her that sending him the tape would have such dangerous consequences. What did she expect him to do? Obviously he would try to figure out who sent it and then probably confront the person (which could have ended in a deadly manner). Also, given the recent lack of trust between Mike and Briggs, it wasn't such a stretch for Briggs to deduce that Mike may have sent him the tape hoping that Briggs would assume it was Sid and get rid of him. Briggs overhearing Mike and Charlie discussing that they wanted to exclude him from the bank robbery plans, couldn't have helped either. It's amazing that no one actually got killed because of what she did.
It's interesting that everyone in the team mistrusts MIke, when Mike has probably been the least deceptive person in the group (until this episode). I also think that Paige's reaction to Mike has been unfair. But Mike is definitely not without blame. He was a jerk to practically everyone in the house, showed very little trust in anyone and had terrible leadership skills overall. It's no surprise that they saw him as the enemy. Even though he was clearly genuine in his mission, I still hold him largely responsible for the atmosphere of paranoia in the house.
I've always seen Mike as the "good guy"; Had they all trusted him, they wouldn't be in this mess. However, the reason they didn't trust him, was because he didn't give them the respect or trust they deserved (hence the bad leader comments), so I do think he's partially to blame. But I agree 100% with what you said about Paige. Of all the people in the house, she was the one person who should have had Mike's back based on what he did for her. As for Charlie being trustworthy....I don't know what to think. She sent Briggs that anonymous tape in the midst of a critical operation hoping that he would finally confide in her. She didn't fully consider the consequences and almost got Mike killed in process.
Totally agree with you, one thing though. My impression of Lena 'losing' the cell phone was that the drugmules/sex trafficers found the phone and dumped the whole bag, but I guess your version makes more sense.
Actually, Charlie using her cell phone to play Briggs the tape in the middle of the heist is what saved Mike's life. When Charlie and Amber were in the vault, Amber made the comment about how Briggs warned her that Mike could take the money and run. Amber locked Charlie in the vault and went after Mike to shoot him. Charlie phoned Briggs so he would know that it wasn't Mike who had the tape because Mike was standing right in front of him with Amber ready to shoot. Briggs then fired a shot to warn Mike and scare off Amber. Charlie deserves major props for some serious quick thinking.
But wasn't it Charlie who sent Briggs the anonymous tape in the first place that made Briggs think it was Mike? It's basically through sheer fortune that she discovered (through Amber) that Briggs thought it was Mike, which is how she saved Mike at the last minute (by playing the tape a second time). Mike's life would never have been in danger in the first place.
I understand what you're saying now and you're right, Charlie didn't think it through when she first sent Briggs the tape anonymously. She didn't plan on Briggs jumping to conclusions and believing it was Mike. I thought you were talking about when she played the tape during the bank heist, but now I see how you're talking about the bigger picture. Come to think of it, the first time Briggs was phoned the tape, Charlie was standing right next to him in the kitchen making the sauce. How did she pull that off without Briggs catching on to her?
You could be right about Fritz or one of his henchmen finding Lina's phone and ditching it. I hadn't thought about it that way because of how resistant Lina was to accept Paige's help when she first approached the girl.
I think your right about Mike being responsible for the 'atmosphere of paranoia in the house'. It all started when he showed up at Graceland in the first season. They were all a happy little family unit and then Mike started questioning Briggs actions (rightfully so) and he was the only one clever enough to see through Briggs's lies. Before that Briggs got away with his lies and the house went on blissfully unaware, but once Mike upset that balance the house transformed from a family unit into a viper's nest. Now they are all lying, betraying and double-crossing each other. The fact that Briggs tried to kill Mike to once and for all cover up his past mistakes seems weirdly appropriate, if not just.
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS OK? this is exactly what i've bee trying to say to everyone online! Paige is just being huge douche and no one is really understanding mike! Like you said, if paige haven't done all those stupid and irrational acts, it wouldn't end like this! oh and that scene when paige said she wanted to write a letter to Lena's parents? are you kidding me?!! the girl ran away from her home on her own decision!! Paige is way over her head and right now she is doing NOTHING but to give shit to Mike over and over again! honestly , she has no part in mission whatsoever!! i really liked her at first but now i just want her out!
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
this whole season has been kinda wack with the bus storyline but the last scene of this ep was awesome
