The tension and action this season keeps ramping up every episode. I'm pretty sure that Dobbs' brother did kill Sonya's sister and can't wait to see the bad guys brought to justice.
Is it just me or is the sense of dread really starting to build in this season's story. This show is so subtle ( and sometimes not so subtle but brutal ) in the way it pulls you in and along. The season story arcs are very finely constructed.
I think that's a strong possibility but I keep coming back to Hank. Yeah, I know... not Hank! Not the best guy on the show! But, well... that scene where he talks to Dobbs' brother about both knowing what happened the night Lisa died? If Hank's such a swell guy and Jack killed Lisa, not Jack's brother, why would Hank have helped cover that up? Sure, maybe he saw something that hinted at it but couldn't prove it... except Hank seems pretty damn sure. He also wants Sonya to drop it and expresses this at every possible moment. He keeps Sonya close in order to monitor what she knows about the murder. This is why he's really nervous about what Sonya and Jack... because what if Jack tells Sonya? Then, in that scene between Hank & Jack a few episodes back, Hank reveals something surprising-- he thinks some people are just rotten at the core and can't escape their backgrounds. That where you come from is who you are. That some people are just trash. This is the same guy we root for because of his kindness-- he looks after Sonya, he's good to Marco, he's a strong leader and a fair boss, he took in Eva because it was the right thing to do. So it is jarring to see him in this scene with Dobbs' brother, where he reveals a little bit more of a darker side to his character.
Hank has worked a zillion cases in his career but the only relative of a victim he's bonded with is Sonya. Why? Does he feel guilty for what happened with Lisa? Did he make a mistake? Did he kill her and maybe he considers that a wrong call (or not a wrong call?) How many times can the show tell us that Lisa loved horses while juxtaposing it with Eva at Hank's, grooming his horses? Maybe it's just a parallel or maybe it's a clue.
Theory: Hank was going to kill Dobbs to avenge Lisa's murder for Sonya, but found out or realized to late that Dobbs was covering for his younger brother Jack, Lisa's actual killer. Hank has a clear sense of "right, wrong, and fairness" which is why he didn't go after Jack, because he would have destroyed two lives when he only wanted to kill Lisa's murderer. In his attempt to kill Dobb's, Hank left him "brain damaged" taking away the one person who loved and protected Jack, who in turn had murdered Lisa (yes, Jack killed Lisa and is probably the Juarez serial killer too) the one person who loved and understood Sonya. This was as close to "a eye for a eye, a tooth for a tooth" justice/revenge that Hank could provide without crossing that "point of no return" into darkness. That's my theory and I'm sticking to it! The Bridge is simply a great series, this season hasn't had one bad episode for me yet, so...............why aren't more people watching? 4 THE BRIDGE TOLL THERE AND BACK, I will be Nobody!!!
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.

An eye plus another eye makes the whole serial killer blind.

ReplyDeleteI really hope it doesn't turn out to be Hank, just because that trope has been done and makes for a weak denouement.
