DarkUFO, you are my favorite person today. I knew about the preview but I didn't think it'd be as simple as on youtube, so I wasn't even going to look. Thank you.
I've been seeing good things about this. Can someone tell me what it's actually about please? Haha (I know that I could google but press releases and stuff are all so robotic, it's just better to get the description from a human).
It's about British Army nurse Claire Randall who, after World War II ends, visits the Scottish Highlands on a 'second honeymoon' with her husband Frank. One day Claire goes plant-gathering near some standing stones on a nearby hill and when she enters the circle of stones she's suddenly transported to 200 year in the past. A lot of shit happens and she ends up having to marry a Scottish clan-warrior called Jamie Fraser. While in the past Claire also uses her 20th century nursing knowledge to help 'heal' people, while searching for a way back to Frank. She also slowly falls in love with Jamie. A lot of other crazy stuff also happens (think torture, witchcraft, murder etc).
I have no shame in admitting that I've already watched this 3 times. Would probably be watching it a 4th tonight if I didn't have to work and even then, I may watch it again when I get home. It was brilliant and everything I needed it to be. I read the book for the first time when I was 17 and have probably read it 8 or so time sense and this was like the book actually coming to life. Which is so rare in books turned into movies or tv shows. This was just brilliant. And who voted awful?!?! Stop what you're doing and reevaluate your life. Joking. Kinda.
Thank you Alicia. I was planning on watching a second time. But my best friend laughs at me when I do stuff like that. You make me feel better about it!
I was planning to re-listen to the first book before the premiere but, lost track of the date. So there were bits of the pilot that I had forgotten about that were, for me, more of a joy to watch because it felt like the first time. (Jamie watching Claire in the bed and breakfast)
Maybe you can tell me....was Jamie's hair so short at the beginning of the books? It's bugging me but I don't know if its my memory or a necessity of production (in other words if his hair is short on the show because they decided a wig wouldn't look good. I can agree with that decision but my brain keeps thinking...'his hair is short'.)
Yes, it was. A few months before Jamie and Claire first met he had to shave his head because of a wound. Later on in the books and in the series (as you can see in several trailers and pictures) it grows out.
Someone beat me to the answer but to further add...as I just reread the first book before the show...the exact scene is Claire asking him why his hair is cropped and he lets her feel the scar. But by the time they get to Lallybrook, he has it tied again so it will grow.
Also, feel no shame in watching again!! My best friend has watched it like...5 times and I just watched it a 4th to relax after a hard day at work. Its perfectly acceptable to watch as many times as you want, haha.
To boil it down: It's basically an epic romance, but in a historical setting. The best points of the books were seeing the everyday life of people during a historical period through Claire's eyes. You also get wars, prisons, duels, witch hunting...all the good stuff.
Voted Awesome. Truly a beautiful pilot!! Recommend if you like period dramas, historic battles, Celtic history, time travel, romance, and bit of supernatural elements.Bear McCreary also is doing the score, which as usual was also beautiful. Moore and Dahl did a great job with this first installment and I'm enjoying the cast, whom I mostly don't know at all. :)
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
