EW has learned exclusively that the True Blood alum will reprise her dastardly role as villain Maleficent during the second half of Once’s upcoming season.
Could this mean that Maleficent will be season 4’s other big villain after the Frozen storyline? It’s unclear as of now, but Bauer will be back as a recurring guest star for a big arc, so here’s hoping this means the show will dive more into her past, as well as Aurora’s history.

Okay, didn't expect this and I am excited about it! Hopefully this means Aurora will be a big part of the second part of the season too?
ReplyDeleteAnd also want Mulan to be there too to help.
There I was, 100% done with this show, when they bring Maleficent back. Now I'll most certainly stick around because Maleficent.
ReplyDeleteOkay happy we get to see more Aurora back story can't wait
ReplyDeleteSo, once again they throw out their 'main tenet' of "dead is dead". Okay.
ReplyDeleteYes, something to look forward to :D
ReplyDeleteoh come on Sara, we haven't had a really gripping villain in a while. Zelena was fairly boring and Pan annoying.
ReplyDeleteMaleficent was a fantastic villain in her short while on the show though :D
is aurora in storybrooke
ReplyDeleteOMG i didnt see this one coming so fast! Maleficent will be pissed as hell! for all Regina and Emma has done to her. I guess Aurora will be there too? and so does Mulan?
ReplyDeleteAnd this news is coming on the verge of True Blood's ending one day earlier...Coincidence? Don't think so. I saw I coming...or more like I was hoping it'd happen and now I can officially do a happy dance for more of KBvS on my screen...S4 better hurry up! :D
ReplyDeleteShe never died. It was made clear in s2 that the magic in the cave she was imprisoned in would never allow her to die. Whenever her physical body would get destroyed, it would simply be brought back in some kind of grotesque form over and over again containing her soul.
ReplyDeleteMaleficent will have to prove that she's gripping. Her only real appearances were lackluster.
ReplyDeleteDid it? OUAT has zero continuity so it doesn't matter anyway because the writers don't care. I highly doubt they can afford the cost of the CGI with all their budget cuts for a zombie. So...
ReplyDeleteShe probably won't be a zombie thing since the actress is back, and I'd suppose after the undone curse and snow's second curse, she definitely escaped and is free somewhere back to her original body
ReplyDeleteCan we keep her throughout Season 5 instead of getting two new arbitrary villains with no connection to each other?
ReplyDeleteThe Once writers once again use box office to dictate their story lines. It seems obvious that Maleficent is back mostly due to the recent film, much like Frozen.
ReplyDeleteAs someone stated above, it's about time they ditch the "New Villain Every Half" formula, especially if they're not connected to one another. I know it's a fairytales show, but long-term planning would be much appreciated.
i'm not surprise she will b since Emma and Hook screwed with the past and TRUE BLOOD ended
ReplyDeletelets not forget Emma and Hook screwed with the past. i do recall reading the creators said they left an effect .
ReplyDeleteShe even has a villain name.
ReplyDeleteGreat news! I'm not a fan of the whole villain-of-the-half-season thing, to be honest, but I love her so I'm really looking forward to this. Hoping they'll bring back Aurora and Philip too.
ReplyDeleteI dont think its bc maleficient was a box office succes i think they just took the first chance they got to have kristin bauer back in the show.
ReplyDeleteHahahahahaha trailing the cinematic success. I like Kristin she is more than awesome, but kind of disappointed by the writers that their imagination is on such a low level that they are recycling this because of the Maleficent movie success.
ReplyDeleteI think for once, I'll have to defend A&E. I don't think it's because of the movie at all. They have always wanted Kristin back and took the chance now that True Blood is done.
ReplyDeletePan's curse reverted everything and sent everyone back to the Enchanted Forest. We can therefore assume that Maleficent was sent back as well in original form.
ReplyDeleteLOL, this reminds me the return of David Robert Jones in Fringe S4 - a storyline validated by the time-reset at the end of Season 3.
ReplyDeleteORGASM!
ReplyDeleteORGASM!
ORGASM!
that's exactly what i was thinking..they kept saying they wanted kristin back and with true blood gone they took their chance before another show get her.clearly they wanted kristin to be back for a while in season 2 (she wasn't available so they made her a zombie) and even in once upon a time in wonderland (with the voice over).
ReplyDeleteI think the main problem is that they had her trying to talk Regina down rather than being evil. And they backtracked pretty much EVERYTHING from that one conversation. So Maleficent cursed both Aurora and Aurora's mother twenty years apart.
ReplyDeleteHer only other on screen appearance alive was being violently attacked by Charming for no reason and despite turning into a dragon not doing very much.
They did vastly change things, but I doubt that all the things Emma screwed up will really be explored because it's not directly about them. But if they changed too much they would have changed the Season 1 finale.
ReplyDeleteWell damn, I'll have to watch those episodes, loved Pam on True Blood.
ReplyDeleteYes I was hoping for this considering Will Scarlet's return, let alone some of those theories out there...
ReplyDeleteNot necessarily. Will Scarlet is connected to her via using Robin Hood and his his men to steal a portal to Wonderland (a looking glass), so he and Ana can start over there...
ReplyDeleteThat's a really good news :-) I'm not that interested in Aurora's backstory, but I'm so glad they will be bringing Maleficent back.
ReplyDeleteAnd it isn't like Maleficent was some minor nobody before the movie was successful. She has always been a big character.
ReplyDeletePeople are just being cynical.
As if I wasn't already excited enough!
ReplyDeleteThis has nothing to do with the movie being a success btw for anyone saying it is, they've wanted her bacl for a while and True Blood has ended now it only makes sense, plus the majority of the fans wanted Maleficent back as the villain in 4B.
I also don't get the hate for the split season format with a diff villain each half. I think it's so so much better, and why the complaints about the villains not being connected to each other? Why do they need to be?
Anyway i'm really excited for S4, I wonder if the show is renewed for S5 (fingers crossed) of they'll use the ending they originally wrote for S3.
Excellent!!!! :)
ReplyDeleteWhich was?
ReplyDeleteActually, they never said that. They said that it keeps her there in whatever form she's in. Since Emma killed her, she's a monster. That would be similar to how Cora could control dead bodies in 208.
ReplyDeleteI know that but I personally would step away from doing it now. Maybe in S05.
ReplyDeleteI just hope she isn't the main villain, she is dead afterall. Some flashback appearances to Aurora, her Mom and maybe some other tale would work but please no resurrection.
They never revealed it cos they said they might want to use it later
ReplyDeleteits great i love it
ReplyDeleteShe isn't dead, the curse she was under brought her back each time she was killed, last time she came back as like a zombie thing, then at the end of 3B Regina broke that curse so she would have been free, and now she's probably back in Storybrooke with them after Zelena sent them back. They could also have it tie in with how Emma changed the timeline.
ReplyDeleteI think it seems more likely that Elsa verses Elsa Verses Rumple will be the bigger driving plot for the first half. Maleficent might just be icing on the cake with an arc that ties everything together, but one things clear, she's a very hard character to kill (she's had two major incarnations post first curse)...plus it's very possible that things in the current time lines are being altered (like characters that our dead may suddenly be alive, ect)
ReplyDeleteIMO the good thing, or lets be honest and say, "potentially" good thing about her is, that she is character that has all the right connections: Regina, Charming, Robin/Merry Men of the past, Will (and by extension Ana), Aurora, Philip, Aurora's Mother, (briefly) Emma, and where ever Maleficent learned of the curse and she's a character who's real story has yet to be presented to us. She could be a lead into Arthurian Legend too, "if" that is where the second half of the season should go...
ReplyDeleteThis is AWESOME, I've wanted this since the 2nd episode of the series.
ReplyDeleteBest thing they can do. There are no more villians that they haven't used, so if they are gonna start reusing them they might as well start with her.
ReplyDeleteI am excited for the arc, but I was hoping they would save Maleficent for the final arc of the series to come back full circle to season 1.
ReplyDeleteIt's been a long time since I've seen anyone as excited about a character's return as you are about Will Scarlet ;)
ReplyDeleteIn addition to that, I would add that Maleficient is as much of an iconic character as the Evil Queen is, Disney wise. It always felt like a waste that they didn't explore that amazing character. I would like to see the twist they would put on her story with Aurora, much like we saw the twist of Snow and Regina's story.
ReplyDeleteWill Scarlet can have a connection to Elsa, cause if you watched Wonderland in ep 10 or 11 he stats that his sister died ona frozen lake or something. I think that will be the connecction there.
ReplyDeleteShe and Regina were besties once, would be nice to see the 2 of them meet.
Yeah, if they do end up using it, I hope they tell us what it was!
ReplyDeleteI'm so confused on why some people are really pissed to have a maleficent arc. People have been wanting her return in a long time for years. Now when the character is at height of fame thanks to that movie, and the actress is available, it's suddenly wrong to put her on lol. Clearly the mistress of all evil is the best way to conclude the season lol
ReplyDeleteI'm excited for Maleficent's return, but what do you mean no more villains? Madam Mim, Ursula (the real one), Mother Goethal, Doctor Facilier are a few Disney villains I can think of off the top of my head.
ReplyDeleteI think it might have something to do with cashing in on the popularity of the Maleficent movie, as with Frozen, but I don't think that's a bad thing. It only makes sense.
ReplyDeleteif this means bringing aurora and mulan back im down
