Nod, a drama series adaptation of the novel by Adrian Barnes, has been set up at Fox with a script commitment with penalty. Jason Richman (Bad Company) will write the project for 20th Century Fox TV and studio-based Chernin Co. Nod is set at a time when most of humanity loses the ability to sleep and scientists are at a loss to explain why no one is tired. It revolves around Tanya and Paul, an “inter-somnial” couple – she, Awakened and flourishing, and he, one of the remaining few who are still handicapped by the need for sleep. But when signs of deprivation start to show among the Awakened, the bonds of friendship and love get tested in unexpected ways — because if something seems too good to be true, it probably is.

Sounds like boring cheap Sci-fi. Will most likely pass!
ReplyDeletesound pretty cool and different from what i've seen on television before
ReplyDeleteSounds like a cool enough premise. Great sci-fi though also has great social commentary so hopeful it is more than just it's premise.
ReplyDeleteSo the people who don't need sleep think its a good thing? I love sleeping and dreaming!
ReplyDeleteWell that sounds extremely boring...besides Sci-fi shows never really do well on FOX, although just by reading that it doesn't really sound like sci-fi...
ReplyDeleteFox + Sci-fi? No Thanks. After passing on Delirium, I don't think this is going to work.
ReplyDeletenot being able to sleep? damn a lot of bad things will happen. No sleep does not mean is a good thing :s
ReplyDeleteFox cancelled Almost Human for this?
ReplyDeleteIf I understood the description right, there are two conditions:
ReplyDelete1. People still to sleep but are incapable of doing so, it's like a more dangerous version of Insomnia.
1. People lose the need to sleep without endangering their health. "The Awakened" can stay up for as long as they want without showing symptoms of tiredness. That is of course until even they react to staying up this long like any other human would.
I love sleeping too, I don't nearly get as much as I should. But a few more hours each day to watch more TV or get more shit done without endangering my health? That doesn't sound too shabby.
ReplyDeleteI think this sounds intriguing. Just the thought of not being able to sleep makes me shudder. I haven't read the book but I hope this focuses more on the impact it would have on our lives, rather than the sci-fi style. I'm more interested in how this affects us, rather than why it is happening.
ReplyDeleteI guess I do have a lot of shows to catch up on, so maybe!
