John Mulaney is about to meet his match — his 13-year-old female match.Bailee Madison (Trophy Wife, The Fosters) will guest-star an upcoming episode of Fox’s new fall comedy Mulaney, TVLine has learned exclusively, playing Ruby, the daughter of Julia, a woman Mulaney is dating.
The snag? Mulaney wants out of the relationship, but he can’t bring himself to dump Julia because it would mean giving up his friendship with Ruby.Ruby and Mulaney’s connection might sound weird to you — and, to be fair, it kind of is — but consider this: Ruby is described as the 13-year-old female version of Mulaney, complete with his sophisticated sense of humor. (Her favorite movie, for example, is Blazing Saddles.)

This comedy is already getting its fair share of flack and this odd storyline won't help matters any.
ReplyDeleteAt first I didn't read carefully enough and for a second I thought that Bailee Madison would be playing John Mulaney when he was 13-year old (in a flashback obviously... or in present time as an hologram, that could work).
ReplyDeleteThe idea behind that (perhaps stupid) reasoning was that Mulaney might have heard snarky remarks about his looks as a child (he's not the butchest man around, he could have been called a girl by boys of his age) and having a little girl playing him would be a way to reference that. On second thought, 13 is a bit old for a joke like that, if he were to have done that it would be better if it's his 8-9 year old self.
Even if they don't seem like Peabody Award material, or even cut out to be huge hits, I will watch Mulaney and Selfie because of the people involved in them, and if they're cancelled, then Karen Gillan and Nasim Pedrad can come hang out at my place, so it's a win-win from my perspective.
