Setting up a potential “Twilight”-like franchise, Universal Pictures has acquired movie rights to Anne Rice’s novels in “The Vampire Chronicles” series for Brian Grazer and Imagine Entertainment.
Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci are on board to produce.
The deal — announced Thursday — includes the adapted screenplay for “Tale of the Body Thief” written by Rice’s son, author Christopher Rice. Other novels in the series include “Interview with the Vampire” and the upcoming “Prince Lestat.”
Imagine president Erica Huggins will oversee films based on the series for Imagine Entertainment, and Bobby Cohen will exec produce.

'The Vampire Chronicles' joins Anne Rice's 'Christ The Lord' which was previously announced as in development by Focus Features.
I wonder if Anne will fight for Stephen Amell to play Lestat. Stephen is apparently part of her dream cast for a movie.
ReplyDeleteI also have to wonder if this deal includes 'New Tales Of The Vampires' and 'Lives Of The Mayfair Witches' which are set in the same universe.
There are so many vampire book series out there.....
ReplyDeleteI wish the news was about something other than Annie Rice's Vampire Chronicles. Just never enjoyed the series much.
Anne rice is my favorite author, I hope they stay true to the novels and interlink the movies like the novels, I liked IWAV, Queen of the damn was ok.
ReplyDeleteNO!
ReplyDeleteI read some of the first novels and they are very overrated. My favorite was the second book (Lestat's book) but that book also had many stupid forced things. Still I hope they adapt that book first instead of doing a remake of Interview with the Vampire.
ReplyDeleteAnne Rice seems to be a very difficult person so I can see this production being a mess.
Nothing is worse than twilight
ReplyDeleteI used to love her novels, but somewhere in the 90's she lost me. Too much religious stuff and too much bloat in her novels, and I ended up not buying them anymore. She seems to have good plots, but they just get too bloated and overrun. I loved the movie of Interview with the Vampire. But I hated the movie of Queen of the Damned. I hated everything about it. The direction was awful. I hope whatever new adaptions they do will be much better.
ReplyDeleteI've only read Interview with the Vampire and that has a pretty decent adaptation, at least I enjoyed it, but the fact that they mention Twilight in there is enough to tune me off.
ReplyDeleteThis would actually make for a great series on HBO, FX, or AMC instead of a movie every few years.
ReplyDelete[ on the grand scale of Game of Thrones, American Horror Story: MH/A/C, and The Walking Dead ]

ReplyDeleteI was hoping HBO would look into either The Vampire Chronicles, Night Huntress or Black Dagger Brotherhood after True Blood finishes it's run. Hopefully one of the networks look at Black Dagger Brotherhood eventually, if they do it right it could be amazing.
