Underworld Gets Rebooted!
Lakeshore Entertainment is moving forward with a reboot of the vampire action franchise, hiring Cory Goodman to write the script.
Lakeshore's Tom Rosenberg and Gary Lucchesi are producing.
The first Underworld film, directed by Len Wiseman and starring Kate Beckinsale, was released in 2003. Playing the strong vampire Selena made Beckinsale into a bankable action star, and three films followed in 2006 (Underworld: Evolution), 2009 (prequel Underworld: Rise of the Lycans) and 2012 (Underworld: Awakening).

Not sure this needs a reboot?
ReplyDeleteΟh, come on now!!! Seriously??? Is this like a really early April fool???
ReplyDeleteContinue the current continuity - even reveal things they thought were wrong - but rebooting is getting old already. It rarely improves the original (not never but rarely) and it just seems like you couldn't come up with your own idea so decided to pinch someone elses.
ReplyDeleteIf this going I Skipped Reboot i just Want Underworld 5 6 finshed series storyline
ReplyDeleteYeah Kate, move over, grandma!
ReplyDeleteReally? A reboot? When the franchise is still popular? This this some kind of joke?
ReplyDeleteAre they wanting to shoot more movies, and the star actress isn't interested or something?
Rebooting seems insane when the last film was in 2012. Even the gap between the Sam Raimi Spider-man 3 and the reboot in 2012 was longer than this.
ReplyDeleteInsanity.
STOP
ReplyDeleteREBOOTING
EVERYTHING
I'd actually like to see a tv show or movie focused on Lucian..its to bad that they killed him off..
ReplyDeleteUnderworld was a great concept with piss poor execution. I can see why they'd want a redo but it seems a bit soon to me.
ReplyDeleteAlthough I really hated the last movie, and the prequel was kind meh... I love the two first movies, so... I don't need reboot. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI like the series, and I thought it was still not finished after the last one. If they needed to they could of time skipped again and use their Daughter.
ReplyDeleteI also thought the series was really dark like it was always at night time, given the theme I Get it, but during the first 2 I remember it being extra dark. I just needed to say this idk why.
But yea a reboot... If they do, this time build a bigger mythology and world, to allow for more sequels and not just 1 shot enemies.
I don't understand why it needs a reboot. The first 2 movies were good, other 2 okay, and it's too early for any reboot. Plus the actors kind of made the movies too. Characters must be being recast?
ReplyDeleteThe reboots I've watched have never surpassed the original. They're usually not as good in my experience. It's very rare they do better.
ReplyDeleteWhile I question the timing for this reboot, the latest installments were kinda flat, like they forgot what made the first 2 movies great. Maybe if they try again they will be able to avoid the mistakes that were made in the past... HA! Like that will ever happen. Chances are it will be an over-the-top gore-fest or a romantic comedy that will feel like it belongs on the CW.
ReplyDeleteI keep hoping that it`s a semi reboot,
ReplyDeletethey ended Awakening with Michael having escaped the lab unseen by Selene, Eve and David. If Kate Beckinsale not wanting to return is the issue (what is pretty likely considering that she didn't want to do Awakening either) they could do flick before a semi reboot. Selene is killed off early on in the opening sequence played by a stand-in (like they did it for Michael in Awakenings opening), now more than ever Eve is hellbent to find her father who in return has been captured by the last real vampire army ready to storm the unnamed city (they never mentioned what town Underworld took place in). As they experiment with Michaels hybrid blood they discover that his blood is capable to restore dead tissue. As the new lead vamp tests it on Victors dessicated remains he grows back to old strength and leads that new army. Victor is constantly attatched to Michael though in order to remain 'alive' (looking a bit like his early appearance in the first Underworld flick). Eve and David join forces with a neutral army of lycans (not related to those leading the lab) to stop the vamps from wrecking town. In the final big battle the lycans and vampires nearly eradicate each other. Eve manages to defeat Victor and detatches but Victor attacks with his last breath, Michael jumps between Eve and Victor and dies (seeing Selene one last time in a vision). With his last breath he orders Eve to keep the balance to benefit the lycans, vampires, humans and whatever there might be. Eve and David wander off and start their new saga. Meanwhile Michaels blood fully revives Victor. In a mid-credits scene a lycan, that stole a vile of Michaels blood, enters a dark passage way where a group of lycans has gathered around a coffin. He drops the blood onto the coffin, the blood slowly makes its way inside. They hear something smash against the iron forged coffin from the inside, it breaks open and Lucian rises from the coffin. Sparking the ancient war between Victor and Lucian once more. Now Eve and David can fight Victor and Lucian in their own saga. Also Theo James is pretty popular after Divergent, I'm sure that they could land a pretty solid success with the right marketing
I'd love to see a focus on Lucian.. besides Kate B. he was one of he reasons I loved the first movie..and the sec one he was in as well.. I'd hope people would get behind that one...
ReplyDeleteDid you see Underworld: Rise of the Lycans?
ReplyDeleteyes I did but.. his character was the main reason I watched it...... but I'd like to see more movies or even a tv show perhaps ... about the character Lucian
ReplyDeletewell lucian is dead according ro rhe movies and a prequel was alreasy made so the only thing you can hope for is a tv show. But onestly don't think is gonna happen.
