Cowabunga, dude. It looks like the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are here to stay. On the heels of a $65 million opening weekend, Paramount Pictures and Nickelodeon Movies on Sunday announced plans for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2, with a release date of June 3, 2016.

Michael Bay will return to produce with his Platinum Dunes partners, and Turtles writing team Josh Appelbaum and André Nemec are on board to pen the sequel script and executive produce. The statement did not specify whether or not Jonathan Liebesman would return to direct.

“To know moviegoers are embracing the Turtles with such enthusiasm is everything that we and all our filmmakers have been hoping for,” said Paramount chairman and CEO Brad Grey in a statement. “We are thrilled with this weekend’s result, the enduring power of this franchise, and the opportunity to make another one.”

  1. You know what, people talked crap about the movie before it even came out in theaters, people talk crap about Megan Fox almost constantly, and people talk crap about Michael Bay...and then they go watch the movie anyway.

I think I should just stop taking people seriously, and dream of a world where people actually backup the words they spew on the internet.

  2. I hate haters as much as the next guy but the movie was pretty bad.

And 65million is less than what most expected this year and WAY less than the surprise hit of Guardians last week.

  3. No surprise there. Hell at this point if a movie makes a few bucks and is a popular name franchise or pop culture image they are already announcing the sequel before the movie is in theatres for more then a day. Great news guys were going to plan at least two more sequels to the insert movie title. Even though the first one was not great lets go for more why not. Why go for original ideas when we can just churn out sequel after sequel. Watch as the cast changes because the big stars won't take part in the sequels any more and we change out characters for b or even c list actors.
