It's a perfectly valid filming technique... a well done found footage film is always gonna be scarier than an obviously theatrical production, which are literally never scary. Or at least have never scared me, even though I love watching them.
Agree, I think the genre itself is cool when it does something other than the typical "stuck in remote location with murderous creatures"-premise. Chronicle and Project X were fun movies and I hope there will be another non-horror found footage flick coming out sometime in the future.
I'm the opposite. No found footage movie has been scary to me, and I find it more limiting and annoying as a filming technique than anything. Cloverfield has been the only one that I think is good. But this is one that I may try because it looks decent enough.
