E! News can confirm Sony Pictures is planning to expand this cinematic universe by recruiting one of its female superheroes for a spinoff flick. As first reported by Deadline, the studio hopes the film can be released as early as 2017.
Earlier this year, The Amazing Spider-Man director Marc Webb shared the possibility of having a Spider-Woman come to life on the big screen. "This hasn't been on my mind," he told E! News. "But it's an interesting idea."

Could this be referring to Black Cat ?
ReplyDeleteGwen Stacy is dead, how could they make a spin-off about her? Maybe the story could take place before she met Peter.
ReplyDeleteOh c'mon people dont get tired of this?
ReplyDeleteTired of...what exactly? There hasn't been a superhero movie with a woman in the main role for over a decade.
ReplyDeleteBlack Cat please.
ReplyDeleteDon't Marvel own the right to spider woman aka jessica drew? ??
ReplyDeletespider-woman had very different powers from spider-man. if i remember correctly she used pheremones to control men, and could spit acid or something.
ReplyDeleteI get tired of reboots, remakes, ad re-imaginings, yes.
ReplyDeleteIf they make a movie about some existing female character I have no issue, but to switch the gender of an classic character does bothers me.
Plus I'm just a bit bored by how many superhero movies have come out lately. Most are mediocre at best, although a few have been very good.
remakes, reboots all that stuff... i really dont care if it's a guy or a girl the main lead, it's just it seems Hollywood dont have any ideas lately....
ReplyDeleteI think so, because Chloe Bennet (Skye from Agents of SHIELD) has been asked many times if her character will turn out to be Jessica Drew. I don't think Spider-Man and Spider Woman are closely tied to one another.
ReplyDeleteWhich is why *A* said "prequel".
ReplyDeleteYeah, it's about time they made a movie about a superheroine. I'm tired of only seeing women as love interests, or as one member of large team that's otherwise male, in these flicks.
ReplyDeleteTrue, but as far as I can tell from this vague, short tidbit, they're looking to make a movie about a character that hasn't gotten her own movie yet, let alone in recent years. So I wouldn't put it in the same category as the Spider-Man, Fantastic Four, etc etc reboots, at least until we know more about it.
ReplyDeleteAnd I do think the gender is important, considering that when it comes to superhero flicks, the ratio of female to male leads is about 1 to 100000. At this point, at least, there is still (unfortunately) a certain novelty in the mere concept of a superheroine getting her own movie.
They're not talking about turning Spider-Man into a woman. Spider-Woman a.k.a. Jessica Drew is an existing Marvel comics character.
ReplyDeleteThis is a vague, short tidbit so who knows which female character this movie is going to be based on (the whole issue of the rights to Marvel characters being split between Disney which owns Marvel itself, Sony, and Fox makes it even more confusing). Heck, who knows if it's even going to get made - we're still waiting on a Black Widow movie from Marvel while 4 out of 5 of her fellow (male) Avengers have gotten multiple flicks of their own. But it's not a Spider-Man gender-swap we're talking about it, here.
I'm more for an Orgin story, she can meet SpMan at one point later but first get her go on her own 2 legs.
ReplyDeleteOh god keep Sony far away from Spider-Woman. They've done more than enough to ruin Spider-Man.
ReplyDeleteops, didn't read "prequel" my bad! now it makes sense :P
