Longmire, A&E’s most watched original drama series of all time, will be ending its run on the cable network after three seasons. The network has opted not to renew the series for a fourth season. I hear Warner Horizon, the studio behind Longmire, will be shopping it immediately.

Wow, that stinks. Thanks a lot, A&E. Not enough "reality" shows on your plate as it is? Here's to hoping Longmire finds another network as it'd be sad to see it end, especially on such a crazy cliffhanger.
ReplyDeleteGod, I hate A&E. They have absolutely no commitment to their original series division unless they produce a big, big hit like Bates Motel. Most of the shows they've canceled weren't doing too badly in the ratings. They'd much rather keep pumping out cheap reality shows. I'm surprised A&E haven't shuttered their scripted TV division altogether. If it weren't for Bates Motel they probably would.
ReplyDeleteDamn it!!!! I am so fucking pissed off right now!!
ReplyDeleteare you friggin sh*tting me?
ReplyDeleteLongmire produced pretty solid ratings and was quality wise WAY above A&Es usual standards (sorry Bates Motel...).
But hey, another season of "Hillbillys making Lousiana look like a haven for utter idiots" is safe I guess, eh?
On the upside: I guess that Warner won't have an issue with shopping this show to another cable network. USA or AMC might bite
Ack, no! I love that show. Katee Sackhoff is freaking awesome in that show, and I actually like it better than Bates Motel. I hope at least someone else bites and takes it. know that it's about more than this, but it's proof that a cop show doesn't have to take place in a major city to be successful
ReplyDeleteNooooooooooooo!
ReplyDeleteAfter the glades i stopped watchin a&e to much reality shows
ReplyDeleteA&E cannot even remember what its initials stand for. This just stinks. It was too high up on the totem pole of quality for this network. May The Great White Warrior and his lance visit this network.
ReplyDeleteBates Motel dropped a lot in season 2 didn't it? I was really worried they wouldn't renew it for a third season.
ReplyDeleteAnd with this news I'm very, very worried that it won't get a fourth. :/
Bates Motel is by far the best show on that "network". ;)
ReplyDeleteShow had a great third season and I would have thought that A&E would want to have year round original programming Mondays at 10pm, and to do that they would need at least 4 shows.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed Longmires first two seasons a lot more than Bates Motels first. Different strokes.
ReplyDeleteIn the beginning it struggled at 9pm slot, but when it moved to the 10pm slot it improved a lot.
ReplyDeleteNetflix could get a lot of buzz if they picked it up very soon while this news is circulating and get people excited, I'd think. I know they are very careful though about other people's "scraps" that they consider reviving so it's probably a long shot.
ReplyDeleteTrue, I'm just gonna try not to freak out over it until the time comes ha. Or at least have hope that another network would pick it up if A&E continues to be stupid.
ReplyDeleteSomeone PLEASE pick this up
ReplyDeleteAgreed - Netflix just spent a crap ton of money on rights to The Blacklist so they may have to tighten those purse strings for a while too.....but then again, they already have the streaming rights to the first two seasons of Longmire (and presumably the third) so picking up the series to produce new programming might make it a more attractive deal for them - at least more so than Hulu or Amazaon since they don't have the streaming rights to any of the seasons.
ReplyDeleteUltimately, I'm hoping AMC, FX or USA picks it up.
Dear DarkUFO, What is the most effective way to protest this cancellation? I called the A&E offices when they were still open about an hour ago but it went to voicemail. They should not go untouched for this killing of a very fine show. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteNOOOOOOOOOO WHY? =(
ReplyDeleteYou get answers, but it sets up more questions more than providing closure.
ReplyDeletebooooooooo! disappointing decision by A&E.....
ReplyDeleteBates got half the Total viewers of Longmire but held in the 18-49 demo that seems to be the only thing that matters. Bates is nasty so it fits in with the rest of A&E's trash TV. A&E just threw away 3-5 millions of viewers. More than a lot of their so called hits. Just dumb.
ReplyDeleteWell A&E execs have proven they are "cement heads" and have spent way to much time in a duck blind in the swamps eating Wahlburgers or looking for junk in storage lockers. They just threw away 3-5 million viewers that most likely don't watch anything else on A&E. That's more viewers than a lot of their so called "hits" get. I hope the 18-49 olds that watch their other crap are happy, you'll be getting more of the same. They didn't "produce" Longmire themselves so the decision was based on pure greed. They wanted a bigger share and Warner said no. Very short sited. No more A&E for me ever. They are ANTI ENTERTAINMENT. Another network will be smart enough to pick it up. Very few original cable shows get 3-5 million viewers, they get less and are still renewed. Another network will promote it correctly. A&E will be sorry.
ReplyDeleteThat's not saying much! Longmire was better.
ReplyDeleteDon't waste any effort with A&E. Better another network picks it up. A&E was never the right place for it. Hoping for TNT.
ReplyDeleteI know. It's pure Greed! Warner wouldn't give them a larger share that's why A&E only ordered 10 episodes for season 3 after having 13 for season 2.
ReplyDeleteYou are right. And you demonstrate a cooler , smarter head than mine. Thanks, I agree it would be better off on TNT anyway. Here's hoping.......
ReplyDeleteAn extremely long string of profanity. I really hope someone picks the show up. No reason for me to stop on A&E otherwise right now.
ReplyDeleteWHAAAAAAAAT?????? Seriously????
ReplyDeleteThese guys are worse than FOX.
There are stupid decisions and then there are brainless choices. Now I have absolutely no reason to watch A&E.
ReplyDeleteit would be cool if Neflix/Hulu/Amazon Prime came and picked up the show from A&E
ReplyDeleteI really, really, really, really, really hope another network picks this up.
ReplyDeleteErgh, yeah. I too hope "Bates Motel" can manage to beat the A&E curse!
ReplyDeleteTo those who watched "Longmire", sorry about your show. That really sucks. I hope another network/internet site will pick it up!
Will watch whatever station picks up Longmire. Hope it will be pitted against a new A&E show so no one will watch it because we will be tuned into 'Longmire'!
ReplyDeleteDumbest move ever! Longmire season was easily the best of all: the characters were all so believably developed. I can't imagine there was much risk in a 4th season. Surely some other outlet will pick it up!
ReplyDeletejust dumb! Hard to believe they'd cancel such an excellent show.
ReplyDeleteLongmire did drop a bit this season, but NOT nearly as much as its lead-in. CM (R) were 72% BELOW what The Glades provided last season. Is it any wonder that some erosion would happen. I get the whole studio thing, but A&E with rapidly declining DD isn't doing anything to bring viewers in. Sorry, but 10 episodes of Bates Motel over 365 days isn't how you keep drama alive at network. (I know they have other things in development, but no other proven hits.)
ReplyDelete:(
ReplyDeleteWHAT????
ReplyDeleteYeah - it's such a brilliant show I just don't understand this, especially with the amount of garbage getting greenlit this year. Maybe A&E hired from the former Fox employees pool, and got the idiot who cancelled Firefly (sure this decision is not as monumentally stupid but it's in the top 5 bad decisions IMO).
ReplyDeleteMay the fleas from a thousand camels infest the arm pit of the genius that cancelled the show. First The Glades and now Longmire..so there is nothing I watch on A&E now.
ReplyDeleteYES, big cliffhanger.
ReplyDeleteOh come on!
ReplyDeleteAnother A&E blunder like the Killing. I hope like the Killing they find room for it on another venue Netflix?
ReplyDeleteSuch a disappointment. Longmire was a really good, enjoyable show, one of the very few on A&E that wasn't a reality show or a rerun of another show. And I really wanted to see how that cliffhanger was going to be resolved, and for Walt and Vic to finally together.
ReplyDeleteTry AMC next to HOW. A great show.
ReplyDeleteMe too.Any of those 3 channels would give it a proper chance I think.Heck, the audience is already on board and leaving A&E.
ReplyDeleteYa, there has been over 800 comments on the TV Line page and none of them have nice things to say about A&E!
ReplyDeleteI really hope that AMC picks it up - think it would compliment Hell on Wheels nicely and as you said, they would treat it well. Fingers crossed someone picks it up!
I'm not worried, it will be picked up by a network that see's it's value.
ReplyDeleteI really hope you're right, this comes out of nowhere.
