BBC One has announced the cast for its upcoming adaptation of “Lady Chatterley’s Lover,” the 1928 Italian romance novel by D.H. Lawrence.

Holliday Grainger, who starred in Showtime’s “The Borgias” and A&E’s recent miniseries “Bonnie & Clyde,” will play the title role, with “Game of Thrones” star Richard Madden playing gamekeeper Oliver Mellors.

James Norton, who appears in BBC One’s “Happy Valley,” will play Lady Chatterley’s war-wounded husband Sir Clifford Chatterley.

The 90-minute drama will be written and directed by Jed Mercurio and produced by Hartswood Films in association with Serena Cullen Productions. Filming on “Lady Chatterley’s Lover” will commence in October to air in 2015.

  1. Love Holliday and James, really looking forward to this now.
I will have to check out the book, apparently it was so scandalous it was banned all over Europe.

  2. A 90 minute drama seems a bit short to tell the whole story when the amazing 2006 film was 168-minute long (and it was expanded to 240 minutes when it aired on TV). Besides, there is a copious amount of sex in the film, so maybe if they trim down all the nudity (and the first hour was a bit slow, albeit necessary), it fits into a 90-minute film, but then I don't know if it would be that faithful to the apparently scandalous novel.

Holliday Grainger is great, but that 2006 film seems to tell it all, and it will be very hard to go after Marina Hands' performance : http://image.noelshack.com/fichiers/2014/34/1408781388-d54db9.jpg

  3. I agree 100%.

The french adaptation was terrific on all levels: the cast, cinematography, scripts, costumes, sets and music choices would have each deserved an award. I can only urge everyone who hasn't seen yet to go watch it. It's a must see.

Marina is a revelation in it. .

BBC ONE's adaptations tends to be very classical and close to the books, so i don't expect originality for this project.

Also i'm not either convinced by the cast. No actress can do better than Marina in this role.
