I still can't get over the shitty title. Simply Jane or anything would work but Jane the Virgin. I liked some clips they realesed cause I miss true family shows but honstly doubt this will work out.
I disagree. I'm not a huge fan of the title but plain, one word titles are a dime-a-dozen. At least this is memorable. Unfortunately for the CW, most of the attention the title has brought has been lamentably negative.
I personally enjoy the title, just because it hints at a tone I will enjoy... just silly and over the top. (At least I'm hoping that, a show with such a ridiculous premise needs to be ridiculous.) But I've always enjoyed "risky" titles, like Don't Trust the B-- (which they'd just kept it "bitch") Ugly Betty, even 666 Park Avenue which had religious people all in a tizzy lol.
I agree that an one word title is to simple for a show. But it feels like "The Virgin" should be mean something bad, like a pejorative like a bad mark on her. That is my issue with the title. I don't find the title provocative or silly, it's just bad.
I've never had the impression from the creators, the promotion, or the clips I've seen that there's any intent to portray virginity as something bad or something to ridicule.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.

ReplyDeleteLove the poster! Gina looks gorgeous in that dress. Can't wait for this to start!
ReplyDeleteNo!!!! no one ever said anything bad about her virginity. But to me it sounds like she is labeled or "different" for just being a Virgin.
