Gracepoint is phenomenal.

If you have watched Broadchurch you may be hesitant to watch Gracepoint as a lot of people are saying it's just an American version of that. You are not alone I too was unsure about the show until I watched the first two episodes. The characters seem much more likable than Broadchurch's and the different camera techniques used throughout made it look spectacular in particular the view of the ocean. The first two episodes do pan out the same way as what Broadchurch did , however the rest of the episodes of Gracepoint will take a different route to what Broadchurch did. The writers felt that the first two episodes of Broadchurch were a good enough starting point for Gracepoint , which I would have to agree with. David Tennant has assured us that we will have a different ending to what Broadchurch had. "I don't quite know where it's all going. The ending is going to be different. So long as it doesn't turn out that I did it ..." Says Tennant.
With that in mind it makes it a completely different show as you are right back at the beginning again wondering who is responsible and what exactly happened.
The story is set in a small town called Gracepoint where a young boy has been killed. It's sports day and all of the children are there except for one who nobody know's where he is.Beth Solano A.K.A Danny's mother (Virginia Kullis) is panicking she doesn't know what to do she rings everybody and anybody, but nobody has seen him. She searches drastically for him until she get's caught up in traffic leading to the Gracepoint beach. A body has been discovered.
Detective Miller played by Anna Gunn , was expecting a promotion once she returned from vacation only to find that they gave her job to someone else; Emmet Carver played by David Tennant.
They don't know each other and instantly get put together to figure this mystery out. The cast is immensely likable and episodes 1 and 2 promises us that the following episodes will be well pieced together.
Throughout the episodes many potential suspects begin to come to light , many people don't have alibis the night Danny was killed. Evidence is missing and everyone is watching everyone. The flashback in the episode shows key events that brings a new suspect into the mix , everyone is a suspect in this small town. Every single character looked suspicious and you don't know what you're going to find out next , or what is going to happen. It was intense. There are many twists and turns , many surprising discoveries that will leave you wishing you knew the truth.

Summary
David Tennant is outstanding and his American accent is exceptional , he is supported as well by a talented cast I cannot fault any of the performances they were all excellent and fitted their parts nicely. The episodes were phenomenal , they had mystery , drama and a thickening plot. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I urge you to watch this show when it premieres October 2nd 2014 at 9pm on FOX. This is a show not to be missed! 9/10
Check back October 3rd for a full review of the premiere!(with spoilers)

  1. Thank you for the preview, I'm looking forward to this show, David Tennant is awesome. I'm glad there taking a different route to Broadchurch, I don't want a carbon copy but I like it's being respected.

Also want to say thanks to all the reviewers giving previews of the new shows, I'm so grateful, they seem great :)

  2. I don't want a carbon copy either. I hope the writers stick to what they said and after episode 3 go there own way with the show.

  3. Thanks for the preview. I wasn't really planning on watching this because i loved Broadchurch and i'm sick of all these remakes but sounds like it will be good enough to give it a chance.

  5. Your welcome. I too am sick of all the remakes all the programs i loved such as Charmed and Heroes are getting remade i say you should leave a successful series alone once it's finished not possibly ruin it by remaking it.
It definitely is worth a shot. If you loved Broadchurch you will love this , and after episode 2 we should see the story diverge away from what happened in the Broadchurch series (hopefully if the writers stick to there word).

  6. He wasn't heavily featured in the first two episodes , as it was focused mainly on the family , but what i did see of him i did like. I actually preferred his version of Jack than the David Bradley version. His job has changed from a newsagent owner to a kayaking rental place owner and runs the local wildlife observation program.

  9. "DCI Miller"

I thought this was supposed to be an American show. DCI is a British police rank.

  11. I never watched Broadchurch but I wanted to. I think I'll just watch Gracepoint instead as I love Anna Gunn so this is exactly my cup of tea. Thanks for the great review, I'll definitely check this show out.

  13. I've watched Broadchurch and loved it, and I'm curious as to what they've done with it over in the US. A similar thing was done with Being Human US - the couple of first episodes followed those of Series 1 and then BAM! a completely different direction. Hopefully it'll turn out to be as good.

  15. I loved Broadchurch too! It was probably one of my favorite series so am looking forward to season 2 of it , even though I have no clue what there going to do with it.
In the first two episodes of Gracepoint they have only really changed small details such as Jack's job from a newsagent owner to a kayaking rental shop owner. I too wonder where the story will go from episode 3 , and if the whole thing will be different of just certain bits.

  17. Thanks for the preview Robert ! Really surprised to read that it was an excellent pilot (as Broadchuch was one hell of a show). I thought they were only going to do an american copy of it. I was hesitant to start the show but I'll definitely check it out now ;)

  18. I'm glad you will give this show ago. I found that it seemed to top Broachurch's pilot which is almost impossible to do since the pilot was nearly identical with only small changes. I liked the characters a lot more maybe because i actually knew who halve of them were instead with Broadchuch i knew like one person and maybe because I watched Broadchurch in 2013 and this was a fresh new take on it.

  19. I look forward to watch the pilot, I don't think that I'll prefer Gracepoint to Broadchurch as Jodie Whittaker was just PERFECT ! The pilot was really moving and touching, I almost shed a tear watching it. I'll be surprise if i'll feel the same thing in front of Gracepoint.
    Wait and see :D

  22. I did/do watch Broadchurch (which I really like and anxiously await it's second season). I originally was not interested in this American remake until I saw promotional footage and learned that it will have a different first season ending. The cinematography looks great and I'm curious if DT will play it a little different with a different cast and cultural setting...

    Thanks for the preview!

  23. Your welcome! I too await the second season of Broadchurch although i'm not really sure what they plan to with it giving that its the same cast and location.
Without giving anything away there are a few notable changes that you see by episode 3. It looks and feels different from Broadchurch. They have changed it a bit , but episode 7 is where the big changes happen and when the story takes its own route away from Broadchurch.
