The Game Of Thrones production team have reportedly been prohibited from shooting a crucial topless scene at its planned location in Croatian capital Dubrovnik.
Filming is currently well underway for the forthcoming fifth series of the hit HBO show, but a scene that required central character Cersei Lannister, played by Lena Headey, to leave a church walk through the streets of King’s Landing in the nude has been rejected by the city’s Church of St. Nicholas.
Billed as Cersei’s ‘walk of penance,’ the sequence was to be filmed in the Stradun street between Dubrovnik Cathedral and the Sponza Palace.

Might as well have no nudity at all (even though we're talking about the ultimate humiliation a woman, especially one of Cersei's stature can have), but I wanna see that head getting shaved, at the very least. Can't believe that's much of an issue. Can't they film it on a studio (and visually add whatever), or somewhere else.

We've never seen a topless Cersei.

ReplyDeleteI'm from Croatia and the reason they have issues getting permission for filming a topless scene is that the street they want to film the scene in is in the middle of the city and it's one of the most crowded streets during tourist season. There are people from everywhere visiting Dubrovnik with their families and kids and the city can't have a topless woman walking through there and risk impacting tourism.
ReplyDeleteI don't want the scene to change either as it's a crucial part of the story but on the other hand I understand why they couldn't get permission.
Dubrovnik is a tourist hot spot and if there's something that scares those tourists away in the future well they can't really allow it can they?
I am sure they will get round it some how as it is too crucial a scene not to be in the show.

I'm pretty sure they won't change their mind because GoT stops filming there. When you have kids (if you don't already) would you like someone to start filming a naked scene in front of your house?
