it is getting harder & harder to wait for official start since we are getting new pilots so often :D
ReplyDeleteThankfully I get Hulu Plus for free with Bing Rewards hehe
ReplyDeleteI'm halfway through it now, watching at work in between taking calls so it'll probably be another hour or longer before I'm done. However... I actually kind of enjoy it. I'm not sure if it's something I'll feel compelled to keep up week to week but Ian G is charming. And it will be on Tuesdays right? Not too much on that night anyway.
ReplyDeletesaw it on the abc site and loved it, it has twists and turns, so it's not just a procedural it has some serialized elements to it and humor and heartwarming moments so i'm on board
ReplyDeleteI loved it!
ReplyDeleteIt started off a little too "descriptive" and it felt too much too soon, in my opinion. I mean, we saw his first death in the first five minutes, I thought they'd hold that for later in the series, but the rest of the episode was absolutely perfect.
One thing I hope for future episodes is they reduce the number of times he dies per episode. They worked perfectly with the pilot's storyline, but it could get old very soon, so I'm hoping they find a balance. The upside to this is that we get to see Ioan shirtless everytime he comes back ;)
And I'm sucker for costume flashbacks, so...
I think this show could work for ABC if people give it a chance. *Crosses fingers*
For those who haven't got Hulu Plus like me, it is now available via torrent.
ReplyDeletecould someone confirm that there is something wrong with the pieces deployed on a chessboard?
ReplyDeleteI love it already.
ReplyDeleteImmortal Lead.
Likeable Best-friend/(more) Abe
Hot female detective
and Funny assistant.
Plus mystery I don't need much.
Reminds me a lot of New Amsterdam And that's good for me, since I always wanted more of it.
So, I just watched Forever (aka New Amsterdam 2: Electric Boogaloo) and it's a fun procedural.
ReplyDeleteWhat I liked:
- Ioan Griffudd is a very likable lead. (He may be a little too nice though)
- The pilot had good pacing. There weren't any spots that dragged along.
- Abe's store reminds me of one of the sets on New Amsterdam, which I also liked.
- I liked that Jo Martinez has some issues to work on and isn't a do-no-wrong super cop.
- I'm glad they didn't [SPOILER ALERT] reveal Morgan's condition to Martinez. It's better to keep it a secret.
Nitpicks:
- There wasn't enough of Det. Martinez in the first half of the pilot.
- There's a bit too much narration for my taste.
- I would have liked to see Dr. Morgan's body disappear when he dies before showing up in the river.
- Joel David Moore's character isn't different enough from other similar characters he's played.
- It was odd how suddenly comfortable Martinez was with Dr. Morgan at the end of the pilot after her describing him as weird and creepy, not to mention being a murder suspect too.
I loved it a lot
ReplyDeleteIt was great,i didn't expect anything and i loved it!
ReplyDeleteI loved it! I mean it wasn't awesome, but I haven't voted awesome for a pilot in a VERY LONG TIME, so to me great is the best you'll get unless it leaves me mouth hanging open, of course.
ReplyDeleteThat said, am I the only one that was reminded of Highlander with the Abe/Henry relationship? I mean, I knew from the moment the Abe character was introduced that he was Henry's Rachel, and I don't mean that in a bad way, I absolutely loved their interactions, specially the kiss on the head in the end, it was such a fatherly thing to do.
So I thoutoughly enjoyed this and I will be watching it, and now not only for Ioan, who was my only reason for doing it before.
Oookay, I can't remember when was the last time I saw such an obvious attempt of finding the replacement of an existing show, in this case Castle. (Not counting the spinoffs of shows). Beside the obvious paralell of the semi-outsider-helps-the-sexy-detective, some scenes were like copy-paste from Castle's early episodes. (Martinez's rant about Morgan vs Beckett's rant to Lanie in the morgue before the gala, or the final "Are you coming or what," vs Castle 2x05 endscene.)
ReplyDeleteWhich isn't a bad thing, back then Castle was something worth to watch (how else could I quote those secenes by heart after five-six years?), so if Forever will follow THAT path instead of the stale story-not-telling of Castle, a big thumbs up from me.
Liked the way they showed Abe's connection to Morgan (though it was also a copy-paste from Highlander, I agree with Victora Llanos, just in this case the kid was a boy, not a girl), and I hope there will be less narration in the future, mainly not Coelho-deep truths about life.
With all of this and even though I registered the flaws/mistakes, I enjoyed the pilot. There are very little originality in the show, but they pick the right ingredients and mixed it into a tasty course, so let's see what they can unfold from it!
I really LIKED it! Will be watching the rest of the season this Fall.
ReplyDeleteI think it'll get 1.5s
I also thought of Castle when seeing it! The tone reminded me of Castle and also the likeable and charming male lead paired with the somewhat skeptical but interesting female detective. Like many here, I didn't know what to expect from this show but really enjoyed it. Had a lot of nice elements in it. Looking forward to more.
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed it, hope it will have a complete first season...
ReplyDeleteany chance there will be a non US only version available soon?
ReplyDeletecaught the pilot last week and I enjoyed it... it did remind me of New Amsterdam a bit. I thought that it was a bit narration-heavy, but perhaps that it's because it's the pilot and for setup and they might pull it back as the show goes on... they gave the main character some "Sherlock-ian" characteristics with his keen observational ability and need to pontificate which was a bit overdone for me. and his assistant at the morgue felt almost exactly like the squint character that he played in Bones... all in all a good ep to intro the characters and set up the overall mythology and the nemesis. IG was very good in the lead and I'll keep sampling
ReplyDeleteHighly unlikely.
ReplyDeleteFor some reason it reminded me of Sleepy Hollow in that a guy who has been around for a long time now helps a woman police officer with her cases. I know they aren't much alike but when I was watching it, that's what I was thinking of.
ReplyDeleteIt was very enjoyable , going to be watching this fall for sure!
ReplyDeleteIvan there was a place to click if you don't have Hulu. I just watched it--came on laptop and I chromecast it to TV. Pretty good show--can't wait for the rest of the series.
ReplyDeleteI thought more of The Mentalist with the Sherlock type of clue spotting but also thought of Castle and Highlander. I enjoyed it though and always liked Judd Hersh, cant wait for more. Not real familiar with the lead guy, but liked him. Thought it might have been nice to see some reaction from him in the morgue when he saw the dead woman he had just asked out laying there. The only think I didn't like was the improbable cop going after a serial killer with no back up--twice.
ReplyDeleteI completely agree. I mean it's hard to make procedurals new since every trope has been used from psychics to mind readers to people with gifts and every variation of the manpain trope and such but the mix of what works and this immortality bit makes it interesting enough to wait for the second ep. I do hope that there isn't as much dying over and over again or as much narration but for a pilot it's pretty enjoyable.
ReplyDeleteIt is showing at ABC.com too
ReplyDeleteWatched It This Afternoon...I Was REALLY Surprised At How Much I Enjoyed It! It Has A LOT Of Potential...Hopefully ABC Will Realize This And Keep It Going For Awhile To Give It A Fair Chance Of Growing Into An Audience!
ReplyDeleteReally loved this. Hopefully it does well.
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed it. I was going to check it out but wasn't expecting it to be this good. Definitely going to continue to watch it.
ReplyDeleteI watched it and I do not have HULU Plus. Just clicked play and it was watchable for me.

ReplyDeleteLove, love, love it! Such an awesome show. I loved the surprise at the end about the old man and the flashbacks. There are some great actors on here as well. The music was pretty good too. Can't wait til Sept. 23rd!
ReplyDeleteI was against it at first because it seemed like a New Amsterdam rip-off (miss it and forever bitter about what FOX did to that show) but I ended up liking it more than I thought. And it's different from New Amsterdam.
ReplyDeleteSo I'll give this show a chance.
Well, that surprised me more than i thought i would. Will give it a chance.
ReplyDeleteI just read on a media site that the guy was anticipating the failure of the show and literally said he couldn't imagine anyone watching it, which I found to be a rather pretentious statement considering I intend to. I know it's up against some proven shows and that time slot hasn't served ABC well in the past, but I just found Forever so surprisingly entertaining that I'm rooting for it. But if you responded to the show like me, please spread the word or it could face the same fate as New Amsterdam.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely loved it!
ReplyDeletedoes anybody know the name of the song at the end?
ReplyDeleteYou can find some links available now online. I just watched it(from France) I'm not gonna post any links here but it's honestly very easy to find ;) google is your friend lol ;)
ReplyDeleteThank you
