Dr. Henry Morgan
played by Ioan Gruffudd

Dr. Henry Morgan is New York City's star medical examiner and a man whose plight is the exact opposite of our own. While we do everything to prolong our lives, Henry is a man who, no matter how hard he tries, can’t age even a single day. He's immortal. Henry doesn't know much about what happens when he "dies" except that everything on him disappears — his body, clothes and personal belongings and he reemerges in a body of water, naked.

Alongside NYPD Homicide Detective Jo Martinez, Henry uses his vast experience and two hundred years of medical knowledge to solve New York City's most intriguing homicide cases. Initially put off by Henry's presumptuous deductions, Jo has come to appreciate his expertise. As we enter the world of each victim and Henry unravels the unique natures of their deaths, layers of Henry's long and vibrant past are revealed. Despite his uncanny ability to dissect a person in seconds (not just bodies in the morgue) Henry spends most of his free time in his "medical lair" trying to find a way to actually die, much to the chagrin of his best friend Abe— the sole keeper of Henry’s secret.

Abe
played by Judd Hirsch

No one knows Dr. Henry Morgan better than his best friend and confidant, Abe. The keeper of Henry's immortality secret, Abe's "carpe diem" philosophy inspires Henry to get more in touch with the beauty of living. Abe is not immortal but he is determined to make the most out of every moment of life. Abe balances running an antique shop in Lower Manhattan with a very active social life— something he encourages Henry to try. Through the course of the series, we find that Abe not only knows Henry's precious secret, but has a special way "in" to Henry's troubled past...

Detective Jo Martinez
played by Alana De La Garza

Detective Jo Martinez is a New York City native and one of the youngest officers of the New York Police Department to make homicide detective. Jo's sharp, no-nonsense instincts and her ability to close difficult cases have given her a tough-as-nails reputation on the force, despite also dealing with the untimely loss of her husband. Working with Dr. Henry Morgan was initially a challenge for Jo, but over time the investigator has come to appreciate Henry's annoyingly "creative approach" to solving homicides. Combined with Jo's quick-fire cop instincts, Henry's deductive talents have not only contributed to a successful partnership, but also to a budding friendship.

Lucas Wan
played by Joel David Moore

Lucas Wan is a twenty-something self-proclaimed "artisan of death" and Dr. Henry Morgan's worshipful assistant. He considers mortuary science an art, and Henry its Picasso. After transplanting to New York City from rural Ohio (to open his own beer garden) Lucas would often hold up traffic on his bike, mesmerized by medics loading accident victims' bodies onto gurneys. One day while NYPD investigators were surveying a crime scene in his neighborhood, Lucas worked up the courage to introduce himself to the star medical examiner (Henry). It was the beginning of a match made in heaven.
