LIFETIME ORDERS GLEN MAZZARA’S
DAMIEN STRAIGHT TO SERIES
Network to Air in 2015 Six Episodes of Drama Based on Iconic Motion Picture
THE OMEN and Produced by Fox Television Studios
Ross Fineman and Pancho Mansfield also to Executive Produce
LOS ANGELES, CA (August 25, 2014) – Lifetime has placed a six-episode, straight-to-series order for Glen Mazzara’s drama thriller Damien, it was announced today by Rob Sharenow, Executive Vice President and General Manager of Lifetime.
Produced by Fox Television Studios and based on Twentieth Century Fox’s classic horror film, The Omen, the series follows the adult life of Damien Thorn, the mysterious child from the 1976 motion picture who has grown up, seemingly unaware of the satanic forces around him. Haunted by his past, Damien must now come to terms with his true destiny -- that he is the Antichrist, the most feared man throughout the ages.
“We are thrilled to be bringing a contemporary version of The Omen’s Damien Thorn back to the screen. Glen Mazzara has re-imagined him as a dark, romantic, anti-hero and this fresh take blends complex characters with premium storytelling to make something truly original,” said Sharenow.
Said Fox Television Studios Senior Vice President, Programming, Nancy Cotton, “The Omen is a jewel in the crown of the Fox features library; we’re gratified and eager to bring a new iteration of ‘Damien’ and this iconic story to television – and to a new audience – through the vision of Glen Mazzara.”
Scheduled to launch in early 2015, Damien will be written and executive produced by Mazzara (The Walking Dead, The Shield) via his 44 Strong Productions. Ross Fineman (Lights Out), who developed the project alongside Mazzara, executive produces through his company, Fineman Entertainment. Pancho Mansfield also serves as executive producer. Damien is through Mazzara’s overall deal with Fox Television Studios, as well as Fineman and Mansfield’s first-look deals with the studio.

This could be terrifying and I'm here for that.
ReplyDeleteNothing like another quality series to look forward to...
ReplyDeleteSo many good series are coming and so much little time to watch them all D:
ReplyDeleteI don't think Lifetime is the best place for this kind of the show as it seems incompatible with its brand and target demographics which skews female. Unless of course Witches of EE is attracting a sizeable enough male audience that the network would like to work on.
ReplyDeleteUnless Lifetime is going to change the gender of Damian and make the lead character a female, the show doesnt seem like a good fit for the network.
ReplyDeleteLifetime is probably last network I would think of (ABC is last but one), but I'm not biased.
ReplyDelete"Mazzara has re-imagined him as a dark, romantic, anti-hero..."
ReplyDeleteAnti-hero? An anti-hero is someone who commits "evil", to fight against evil. That's certainly NOT the ac. I loved the original Omen, enjoyed Omen 2, and The Final Conflict. And even though, i hated Omen 4, i was looking forward to Damien. But that description as an anti-hero, has me rethinking that.
OMG! This sounds AWESOME!!!! LOVED the movies!!
ReplyDeleteSuch a well established franchise in the hands of Glen Mazzara. I give it a wide berth.
ReplyDeleteI'm really looking forward to this. I love Satanic-themed television series (moreso than movies I think) like 666 Park Avenue, American Gothic, Point Pleasant etc. so I'm more than willing to give this a shot. I just hope this show isn't at the expense of Witches of East End because that's by far the best show Lifetime has. Anyway, hope it's good, hope it has a good mythology to it and lots of supernatural elements and isn't just a soap opera about the Antichrist like PP was lol.
ReplyDeleteA hot Antichrist character wouldn't exactly be a turnoff for women or gay men and several female-skewed networks have been trying to attract more males. WeTV is all about women but The Divide and their upcoming horror series South of Hell are an effort to attract both sexes.
ReplyDeletePlus it's a series about the Antichrist...I really don't care who airs it and I'm willing to be a significant amount of male fans of The Omen will feel the same.
Well American Gothic kind of hinted that it's lead character - a little boy - was going to be some kind of powerful Antichrist figure like his father, he was the hero of the tale. Point Pleasant was about the female Antichrist who never really was active in "heroics" but she tried to be good for the most part. So this seems just keeping in line with how these types of characters are portrayed on TV. Which is A-OK by me. :) You can't really just have them be pure evil or it doesn't really work as an ongoing series IMO.
ReplyDeleteI liked American Gothic a lot. I own Point Pleasant, and it's one of my top 20 all time favorite shows. Loved Cristina, but Boyd is what made that show good.
ReplyDeleteBut this idea of Damien, is not in line with The Omen trilogy. The difference between Cristina and Damien, is that Damien was evil from the beginning. He was the antichrist.
Whilst Cristina tried to be good. In Point Pleasant, it was said that there had been, many potential anti-christs. Cristina, was not the first project, of her kind. Lucifer hedged his bets, in that story.
ps. Sorry i just got notified of your reply, for some strange reason.
Just found out about this series, cant wait and Bradley James with the leas delughtful.
