Spike TV has put in development a project described as re-inventing the Alexandre Dumas revenge classic The Count Of Monte Cristo with a contemporary and high-octane action and political twist.
The project, based on an idea by Maurer, is still in early stages, and it is unclear whether it would be developed as a miniseries or limited series. Spike TV is making a return to scripted programming via longform, with the upcoming event series Tut as the first project under the initiative.
Maurer is producing the Monte Cristo drama with producing partner Alixandre Witlin. The Count Of Monte Cristo has been a popular target for modern-day interpretations. ABC drama Revenge started off as a female take on the novel set in the Hamptons

I absolutely love Revenge, so I am not surprised that there is more interest in Count of Monte Cristo. I don't think it would be a book adaptation series like Game of Thrones or anything, but I'm interested to see how this will develop.
ReplyDeleteThe book is one of my favourites, so I'm always a little hesitant when they announce series based on it.
ReplyDeleteI think the story works best when it's set in the past (maybe not with Gerard Depardieu in the lead role next time pretty please?) because in this era it just takes minutes to identify a person if you really want and have the means to (that was also my main concern with Revenge) but I'm really looking forward to this, hoping they keep the protagonist a male - nothing against a female protagonist, Emily VanCamp is flawless on Revenge, I just prefer shows with a male lead, that's it :)

I got so excited about the news, but then I read it's modern day reinvention. I would prefer a solid true to the book adaptation.
ReplyDeleteAnd here I was, foolishly hoping for a faithful adaptation of the novel.
ReplyDeleteInteresting; considering we already have Revenge I didn't see this one coming.
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to it
What's the difference between miniseries and limited series? I thought it was the same.
