EP Patrick Sean Smith on Greer and Brenna: "When we pick up after our time jump, we do address their relationship. Greer is back, but it's made complicated by their parents, which takes us to this place that we're all really excited about -- telling the story of Juliet and Juliet. Brenna's such a rule-breaker and having her do that before sort of for evil instead of good, now it's for the best of intentions while she tries to maintain a relationship with Greer despite their parents being against it."

Smith on Brenna and Ford: "We'll see them try to reconcile. It's a little bit deeper in to the 10. We really thought that we had lost the actress Dylan Gelula to 'Jennifer Falls,' but they ended up shooting across the street from us, so by the time we were coming back into production for these 10, we realized that she was available to us -- and we missed her. We really wanted to get back into that friendship that Brenna and Ford had and how that plays into Brenna's relationship with Greer, so we'll see Kieran, we'll see Ford and we'll see Greer."

Smith on Raquel: "How much humanity Raquel can muster while April's going through this? But she still has her own agenda with what she wants at the newspaper and how she wants to get there."

On if April's father Thomas Carver (Tom Irwin) will return: "We would love to go there. We didn't have the opportunity in these back 10 episodes, but it's something we would love -- to understand Thomas Carver more and as we get more into his backstory with Natalie and their relationship, I think it's definitely fertile for much more of our series."

And he adds that Natalie Ortiz is back in Season 1b "in a big way."

As for the relationship between Sarah and Uncle George, star Italia Ricci confirms that their history will be explored in the backhalf of the season and laughs as she adds, "I think April would be really creeped out if she knew they kissed."

"Chasing Life" left viewers -- especially Team Leo viewers -- with a scary cliffhanger at the end of the midseason finale, "Finding Chemo." Leo's parents are at the hospital, he left April a voicemail and ... fade to black.

Did he decide to have the surgery? Or is Leo facing his last moments?
"You definitely know the outcome in our holiday episode, which picks up right where we leave off in the finale," executive producer Patrick Sean Smith tells Zap2it. "It was always kind of by design that we wanted to have this moment of fear and ambiguity over which way Leo is going. You'll know the answer in December."

"How effective was the chemo in getting rid of her cancer but also keeping it away?" says Smith, of April's concern once the show returns. "She is out of the hospital. The next 10 after the Christmas episode will pick up with her first day returning to work and the fallout of everything with Dominick. She'll try to find some normalcy while she's waiting to see if her cancer returns."

Ricci adds, "It's not quite as emotionally draining as the first half [of the season]. Almost all of the bad news has been pretty well dealt with, so the writers wanted to have April have a little more fun. She gets to try and live a normal life again.

"She goes out and gets wasted, she tries pot, she does really, really bad karaoke that I apologize for. [ laughs] She tries to live it up and they spend more time on everybody else's stories, but there's the undertone of her constantly worrying that she'll relapse, and having to deal wtih still being around Dominick at work."

Speaking of Dominick, we have to wonder if April and Dominick can survive the revelation that he was the last person in her life to know she was sick. Ricci says it's going to be really tough.

TVLINE | OK, so the episode will air in December, even though it’s not “Christmas time” on the show?
No, our use of Christmas is something that helps April through the remainder of her treatment. We call it “Christmas in May.” When April realizes that she’s starting to lose her hair, the family decides to throw her a Christmas, which is her favorite holiday, while she’s still in the hospital and starting to struggle with this loss.

TVLINE | And now, for the weirdness. Sara and George briefly discussed their kiss, but is that it for them? Or could that really become a thing?
We’ll carry it through into the next 10. We’ll continue to explore their relationship, but also the consequences of … or, rather, the impact their relationship could potentially have on the family, given how much this family has already suffered from secrets and relationships that weren’t always something everybody would necessarily support.
