ABC is in the early stages of developing a drama series based on the “Derrick Storm” series of mystery novels penned by Richard Castle, the author played by Nathan Fillion in the Alphabet’s drama “Castle.”
Drama vet Gregory Poirier is writing the pilot for ABC Studios and will exec produce with “Castle” creator/exec producer Andrew Marlowe and Terri Edda Miller.
The “Derrick Storm” novels that have been referenced on “Castle” have been published in real life under the name of Richard Castle. The Derrick Storm character is a spy who gets called on by the CIA for mysterious missions. The project is not envisioned as a “Castle” spinoff, however.

ReplyDeleteI'd actually prefer this show to be completely separate from both Castle and Beckett. Besides if anything, I'd prefer to see Nathan, his Castle character is Storm's creator, after-all.

ReplyDeleteFirst thought: nobody would have ever bought any of the DS novels or books without Castle. I must admit I haven't read any of them so they can be the paramount of thrillers, beating John LeCarre, but somehow I doubt it in case of a shadow writer's merchandise book. (Yes, I have prejudices.) So if ABC thinks that just their loose connection with another show and AM's name on the brand would be enough - well they must be very desperate to find any idea. Or they hope they will hit the casting jackpot again and have a lead who can bring the show on his (their?) shoulder.

Did ABC not learn from Once Upon a Time in Wonderland? Please don't ruin one of the best show's you have left to do this!

ReplyDeleteI like the idea, so I would definetly watch it! I never pictured DS or NH looking like Castle and Beckett, so for me it would 2 entirely different shows.
ReplyDeleteDo you know if the novels are written by a single writer or several? I haven't been brave enough to read them. ABC did the same thing with a novel written by a character on one of their soap operas. I read that one and it was readable...but just chickened out with the Richard Castle books.

ReplyDeleteInteresting idea, but I think Marlowe would prefer being paid for two series as opposed to one. The longer they both are on the air waves the bigger his check.

- Well, they just optioned, uh, "Asteroids" the video game. So my guess is yes. But Ryan Reynolds is playing the wee triangle, and he's good.

When I saw the title, for some reason I thought that this would be a storyline in the new season where a network adapts the books into a show (like when a studio tried to make a Nikki Heat movie).
