hopefully no olicity bashing because of that scene.......sigh
ReplyDeleteOh just wait it's coming.
ReplyDeletewe know she will be with Palmer.......I know there are some people complain this is consider "fan service"
ReplyDeletePeople really misuse that term, fan service originates from anime, and basically refers to gratuitous, pointless sexual scenes or sexuality. Like showing a female character wearing only a bra and panties or a guy shirtless.
ReplyDeleteSo much spoilers=)
ReplyDeleteWow. You're not kidding with the *low quality* disclaimer. I'd make a scrambled porn joke but it would be about 20 years too late.
ReplyDeletebetter than nothing......it nice that the canadian promo give some new teaser instead of the same old
ReplyDeleteLol yeah the video quality has improved.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the video. Looks like everyone is included except Lance and Roy or Malcolm. ..can't tell who is drawing the bow in the final shot.
ReplyDeleteI think it's Roy. It looks like Colton
ReplyDeleteAHHHHHHH!!!! @#$%^@#$%^&$#@ I raped the shit outta that replay button!! It's 35 min later and i'm still here!!! Omg omg omg omg!!! Olicity kiss!! With Daddy Diggle in the hospital!! Thea with a sword!!! Sara kicking ass!!! Soooo epic!!! Can we just skip Sept please!!!! AND CAN SOMEONE PUT THIS IN HQ!!!!
ReplyDeleteBruce buddy if you can see my face!!! hahahahahahaaha
ReplyDeleteIf only, smh, but you know it's coming. I just ignore it. Shrugs. No one's ruining my happiness. F**k that!
ReplyDeleteDoing my best to find a copy, no luck yet :(
ReplyDeleteWEEEEEEEEEEEEEE ARE THE CHAMPIONS MY FRIENDS! AND WE'LL KEEP ON FIGHTING 'TILL THE END!
ReplyDeletelol, i'm freaking out!
I gave myself a migraine from screaming too much, but idc, this is sooo worth the pain!! My brain is going crazy with scenarios, i am wired!!! Noooo sleep for me tonight!!! I wasn't supposed to see this, i was good with waiting (personally i think this is a goodbye kiss which i'm ok with b/c it won't be the last) but F*** it!!! lol I called episode 9 the earliest for this. If not ep 9, then 22 or 23. But to have it this early?? And they're only filming episode 5 right now. WOW!! Stephen wasn't lying when he said Arrow season 3 was going full speed ahead!!
ReplyDeleteI cannot wait until October 8th. I rewatched that about twenty times.
ReplyDeleteBut she's smiling though!!! = ) Squeeeeeeeeee!!!!!! Okkk, can someone wake me when Oct comes???
ReplyDeleteWHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT IS AIIIIR, OLIVER AND FELICITY KISS!! I don't care if it's a dream or whatever, but it looks breath-taking! This is chemistry, ladies and gentlemen! There's no comparing to Laurel or Sara. Felicity is the one for him.
ReplyDeleteI'm also happy because the writers never let the romantic plots take over the show and I'm sure this won't be their first time. I'm glad they're giving these two a chance, you don't see chemistry like that every day!
I sent a better one, but for w/e reason it's waiting to be approved. = /
ReplyDeleteWon't be a dream, but it could be a fake-out. But I have to say just prepare for it not going well, given the first episodes synopsis, the shot of Felicity being injured and Ray Palmer potentially serving as Felicity's love interest for at least 12 episodes.
ReplyDeleteWeird, u submitted a scoop right? I'm not sure, I'm still pretty new to this. Were did u find it?
ReplyDeleteShiit, Now that's a relationship I look forward to.
ReplyDeleteA month away!
ReplyDeleteRS Gold
ReplyDeleteYeah, that happened to me as well I'm not sure why it needs to be approved now but I sent a message to you with the video link I guess I have to wait until tomorrow before it's approved.
ReplyDeleteI can upload it now, where did you find it? I'll credit both you guys so we don't have to wait :)
ReplyDeleteYou were supposed to see this you're always supposed to see this and fangirl over them don't let anyone else tell you different. and this episode I believe is in the premiere not sure how many they've filmed yet but I doubt they did 9 episodes already but the bad news is they brought in Ray Palmer I'm really not looking forward to him what about you?
ReplyDeleteThere's been this kind of chemistry since Felicity first met in episode 3 and now look how far they've come can't believe it's been about three years.
ReplyDeleteDid that really just happen? Am I awake?
ReplyDeleteNooo i wasn't!! Not this soon. I mean the hiatus alone was/is killing me. This promo just made it sooo much harder. And they're NOW filming episode 5 they started yesterday or day before idk. But IDT this is the pilot, I think it may be episode 3 (you all should know why) But still....I don't. I mean i really don't know, but IDTS. B/c something isn't adding up. I'm trying to lower my heart rate (since it's been over an hour) and think logically here. It's not adding up. How do they go from the restaurant. Then from him bringing her TO THE LAIR, which i also find odd, b/c i'm thinking all those witnesses and what did he do? Just grab her before the ambulance got there?? I mean he's dressed up for crying out loud!! It's not like he was fighting whoever attacked. Ok w/e back on track. They get to the lair, he waits for her to wake up. Then what? She wakes up they clean off, all of a sudden there's not a scratch on her, and now they're at the hospital with Diggle and Lyla??? Something is missing!!!
ReplyDeleteOk, something's a flashback. Marc said that the first scene of the pilot was going to be the date. I'm thinkiing the date may be the flashback. How he asked her, then they went and that happened. God, this is annoying. Ok (shake it off Shannon, shake it off) He tried to push her away, it didn't happen, INSTEAD he pushes Diggle away, (hence them arguing in the cave.) But still that's before Oliver and Felicity's date. (He's wearing the same exact clothes)....I think by episode 2 he breaks it off with her, which forces her to go to Central city. Ughhhh, idk i lost it. = ( My migraine's getting bigger. Hold on, i gotta pop something here. Brb
Sorry, i found it on Youtube. But it was shortened purposely to 3 seconds.
ReplyDeleteNo worries, I saw that and I was excited and then I realized it's 3 seconds, hopefully someone uploads one soon or The CW uploads an official one soon, they should they've done it for most of their shows so far :)
ReplyDeletePretty sure it's not Canadian given the CW logo. If it was it would've had a CTV logo.
ReplyDeletewhere did you find youtube one should link it here
ReplyDeleteCan anyone make out anything being said? THEA!!!!!! smashing things.. Malcolm. I am excited... Olicity kiss... Oliver looks happy and I am happy for him. Is that Laurel at last being a bad ass. Oh I hope so.
ReplyDeleteNow lets start the Olicity bashing 3,2,1....
Malcolm is making a badass out of Thea. I like that.
ReplyDeleteIt means the kiss happened before the date when they're visiting Diggle and Lyla.
ReplyDeleteEveryone even Olicity haters when saying it is going to be an Olicity show know in their mind Arrow is never going to be all about romance. The problem is Olicity has a huge fan base thus people automatically dislike them. On top of that producers use the pairing to promote the show instead of the whole cast. It could be because romance is the only thing they can spoil but it causes bitterness from people who support other pairing.
ReplyDeleteI know I'm surprised the hate hasn't started yet lol
ReplyDeleteI CAN!!! Oliver says, "First there's a few things about me that you don't know."
ReplyDeleteMakes sense. But isn't Olicity the only real ship on this show. I could maybe see a Oliver/Sara fan base, but not even the most comic book of purists could support Oliver and Laurel.
ReplyDeleteIt might've happened before the date. There's at least 6 scenes from the promo that take place in one day. I had it all in order but i have to wait for my comp to charge. until then...
ReplyDeleteWas it Chuck that spoiled Routh for you? Jusr asking because amongst that fandom he's known as the 2x4 and reviled. I personally think he's good in some roles (like Scott Pilgrim or villain Shaw).
ReplyDeletethe youtube is really a olicity clip.......and can someone change head up to SHIELDNCISArrowfan not NCISSHIELDarrowfan
ReplyDeleteTrue. BUT (US) CW doesn't give those big spoilers THIS early. If anything they'd give it next month, like around the time the DVD will come out. Anddd i know a few fans that have seen the episode already. (with w/e connections they have) This could've been from that. sigh. idk i'm tired. i wore myself out. All i know it that i've been watching CW like cray with repeats and not once has this promo popped up.
ReplyDeletewhat !!? lol I wake up and see this olicity kiss! Wow it's going to be a great day today !
ReplyDeleteNo it wasn't. I glanced at him on there. but didn't watch that show, i disliked him before that.
ReplyDeleteThe logo, the graphics points to it being American. And that's not a huge spoiler, we knew already that they're going on a date, and they have feelings for each other.
ReplyDeleteSuperman Returns?
ReplyDeleteBut there is a small but vocal portion of Lauriver/Lauliver/Laullie (I am always confused of their ship name) shippers. More than that Katie Cassidy has a strong fan base, some of whom wants Laurel with Oliver but with a better story line. Then there is some comic book fans who cry Oliver should always be with Dinah. The fact is like some portion of the Olicity fandom there are extreme and rude fans in this group too who constantly post anti Olicity stuff in internet. There is a Sara/Oliver fan base too but somehow no one expects them to be a serious threat and their own fandom does not expect it to be end game.
ReplyDeleteThe first scene of the premiere is not going to be the date. Stephen and Colton said that first scene is going to be a huge 3 min fight sequence including all of Team Arrow like we see in the beginning of bond movies.
ReplyDeleteWait Katie Cassidy has a strong fan base? I find that really surprising. Lol, I'm just glad we don't have the level of shippers of TVD or the wars it experiences.
ReplyDeleteThat is so god damn awesome.
ReplyDeleteShannon happy for you guys. It is always fun to see you fan girl... They definitely shouldn't release this much info this soon.
ReplyDeleteWell the pilot takes place over a few days. But i know 6 of those scenes is in the same day.
ReplyDeleteIt looks like Malcom Merlyn (look at the eyes)
ReplyDeletelmfao!!! I didn't even notice that. hahahaha I guess they were too exccited when they posted it.
ReplyDeleteSorry, but that's the way it was typed on the submit a scoop page, so I just copied it not realizing but it's fixed now :)
ReplyDeleteThank you and noooo they shouldn't!! Girl did you see my grave??? lol i hope it posted b/c i can't see it.
ReplyDeleteReally!! I tried again and I can't still make out what he is saying *sigh* When is the good print coming?
ReplyDeleteWait where are they?
ReplyDeleteI am so excited about Thea.. That is my most anticipated story line this season.
ReplyDeleteWell someone is lying b/c Marc said it was the date. But wow, if it's not and there's an action sequence with the Team, that's awesome!!! I would loveeee that for the opening scene.
ReplyDeleteThe hospital.
ReplyDeleteOh okay, thanks.
ReplyDeleteI think it was the IGN interview where Marc was also there when Stephen mentioned this scene and Marc mention they shot five days for this action sequence and still it was not finished. I am not sure. I never saw Marc saying the date was the first scene in pilot..
ReplyDeletelmfao yes really!!! i've been watching this for 2 hrs. LOL that's definitely what he said. You'd have to put ur headphones in to hear better. The better print should be out later today. I mean if you listen carefully you can hear all the Arrow fans clicking away on their mouses to make better quality. lmao Perosnally i want to see the ENTIRE promo in slow motion!!
ReplyDeleteI know, right? Can't wait for a Team Arrow vs. Malcolm and Thea showdown.
ReplyDeleteNow that's commitment. I have to up that.
ReplyDeleteI did, it was a long while ago. I'd really have to search for it. I remember him saying hewasn't done with that fighting scene. Omggggg 41 days left!!! (it's after midnight so yes it's 41 days left)
ReplyDeleteI was surprised too. But I have seen a faithful fan base in internet for KC. Also I have heard that there is always long lines (not John Barrowman level but still) when she attends a con. She was a well known CW name before Arrow and was cast first before anyone for the show. As much as I dislike KC and her acting I feel sorry for her. She got the short end of the stick. If she had a back story and vulnerability like that of Sara she would have been loved even with bad acting and no chemistry with Oliver.
ReplyDeleteSee I kind of get it in hindsight now, because she was great on Supernatural as Ruby the demon (and quite badass). That's part of the problem I have with Laurel, because I've seen Kate Cassidy act well, pull off badass and a strong female character. It's why I'm pumped to see her become Black Canary.
ReplyDeleteUpdated with a better video, still low quality but you can here what there saying now :)
ReplyDeleteI'm so excited for the new season!
It's Malcom
ReplyDeletewhy is Laurel hitting that guy.........could he be the bomber?
ReplyDeleteThank you Nirat for hunting down better quality videos.
ReplyDeleteNo worries :)
ReplyDeleteHappy to share Arrow with you guys.
Yw. = )
ReplyDeleteThanks.
ReplyDeletehahahaha
ReplyDeleteSuperman Returns (but that movie sucked in general only liked the part with his son and the piano scene) Zack and Miri make a porno, Unthinkable. Just ugh!! i can't with him. Now he's made his way onto one of my fav. shows. mega facepalm. i'm swallowing it very hard.
ReplyDeleteAWESOME SO AWESOME CANNOT WAIT FOR IT WHOOO, oliver back in business i'm sad in the route thea's going when she comes back it'll be hard for oliver and roy to see her as maybe evil speedy (i hope not) and the lance sisters kicking butt and taking names and merlyn back on the bow and arrow
ReplyDeleteYessss, but nobody expected a kiss, that's the spoiler!! No one expected a kiss this early. and giving how the date turned out, they sure as hell wouldn't have time for a kiss. I still hold my theory that this kiss is a flashback.
ReplyDeletehe looks like he is in a hospital gown. Why would she be hitting an injured guy?
ReplyDeleteYou know what? It's really cruel of them to do this to us, to release this promo and make us wait for more than a month and half :(
ReplyDeleteSeriously I am pretty sure 50% of the Olicity fandom are having minor heart attacks lol but of course they did that so more people would buy the comics, well played writers haha
Possible, but I've heard that Felicity doubts Oliver wanting to go on a romantic date with her. So I don't think so.
ReplyDeleteLol it did suck. Never seen Zack and Miri Make a Porno. Yeah I can only imagine how much it must suck if you dislike him.
ReplyDeleteThis is me.
ReplyDeleteThere is a better quality video with better sound and better pic. Not HD or official release yet. Still captured from a tv screen. youtube.com/watch?v=aGRwMyuociQ
ReplyDeleteOk my grave is posted now. LOL had to do it again before my heart completely stopped. lol
ReplyDeleteHahahaha you're not the only one.
ReplyDeleteEpic!!!!
ReplyDeleteWhen Stephen posts about this promo tomorow (and he will) i'm sharing it on his wall and prays that he sees it. lol
ReplyDeleteI'm actually looking forward to see what he will say about this promo when he posts it.
ReplyDeleteHaha I think you mean tragic lol ok at least hang on long enough to show me his reply lol
Hahahahhaah i'm trying. ohhh and this alone helped sell more comics. I hope it posts b/c now i'm on my phone (disqus is being dumb)
ReplyDeletenot HD but another phone recording and its way clearer :D http://youtu.be/aGRwMyuociQ
ReplyDeleteI would think The CW has to post a official version since they did advertise it.....
ReplyDeleteWhat I think happens, is that they nearly kiss and then something happens....
ReplyDeleteHonestly, I feel like all their promotion right now is geared towards Olicity fans and while I don't mind Olicity, not only is it getting a bit annoying, when I want to know what's going on with the other characters, but I feel like it's also leading people on (yes, even with that kiss), because we all know Ray Palmer is coming as Felicity's love interest.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, can we talk about Malcolm with that bow, Thea's training (this is definitely not from episode 1 then) or Laurel beating someone up in a hospital? Is he a suspect who refuses to give information and time is short? Then why wouldn't Arrow interrogate him? Either way, those are the things that I'm excited about in S3- Malcolm-Thea, and Laurel's BC storyline.
I must say i never seen a lawyer like Laurel still practicing law. With all the blackmailing attempts and beating up suspects ...
ReplyDeletewell they don't want to give anything else away though
ReplyDeleteI agree they showed a lot of enthusiasm towards Olicity in SDCC and media asked mostly about Olicity then. But we must also see that they are not ready to give up anything about Thea, Malcolm or Laurel. They are keeping all other story lines under wraps. Now this promo in no way just concentrates on Olicity. Its the fans who does. All the other characters except Quentin and Roy are equally represented.
ReplyDeleteWhen they say Olicity relationship is going to be a season long arc why wouldn't they show it in a promo?
Shannon *shakes head affectionately* I love you.
ReplyDeleteI hope they don't go out and out evil with Thea. Also I hope she joins the good guy camp sooner in the season. Her motivation for going with Malcolm is dubious already. Making her stay with Malcolm will destroy her character.
ReplyDeleteThat's my hope, because they haven't said ANYTHING about Quentin in S3 and have barely said anything about Laurel or Thea (they've said a bit about Roy, Diggle and Felicity), I'm hoping their storyline is so badass, they don't want to spoil it.
ReplyDeleteWhat I want for Laurel is earlier this season they show us Laurel helping some people. They have always told us she is a do gooder but never showed us. It would do wonders for Laurel if they show us fighting even if it is in court for some poor family.
ReplyDeleteLOL, yeah, it's pretty unbelievable. She blackmailed her bosses twice and now is beating up on suspects? Is this guy not going to tell anyone/no witnesses or is Laurel going to actually lose her law license this season?
ReplyDeleteAww yiss, looking good! the woman are getting shit done! Except for Felicity, cause she only is good now to be pined/pine for Oliver *fumes*
ReplyDeleteSERIOIUSLY!! The other three female characters are shown being badasses, Felicity? she gets a kiss, godmanit. STOP MARTKETING FELICITY AS "LOVE INTEREST" !!
Obviously, this is not to say I'm against Olicity, but this sort of thing vexes me towards the pairing: Instead of showing us Felicity as a character in her own right, they just show her as the love interest.
I personally don't think Quentin will have any dedicated storyline for himself this season. My guess is his problem with his new job will not last more than one episode. He will mainly act as a support to Laurel, Sara and Team Arrow like last season.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I'm holding on to hope that the Thea, Malcolm and Laurel storylines are so awesome and badass, that they're keeping them a secret, for now. Maybe I just need the show to start so we have actual things to discuss, instead of what the producers choose to tease and yeah, the promo doesn't just focus on Olicity, but maybe they should have put it in the end, because people seem to have blanked out on everything else that was later shown and focus only on the Olicity part, LOL.
ReplyDeleteMy problem isn't that there's a promo with Olicity, is that the promo from comic con was Olicity heavy and now this and everything teased about S3 has at least a line about Olicity and I get it, but it's getting to the point where I see the word and my eye twitches. I'd rather they talk more about Felicity's mom, or her dynamic with Ray or even the upcoming double date on the Flash that I'm not looking forward to, or with Oliver talk about anything basically, because it's Oliver, he'll always have a lot of storylines. Like I said, maybe I just need the show to start already, so we can be done with the teasing, I'd rather get Olicity on the show than hear about it being teased.
Thea training should be awesome and since she knows some archery already (she had trophies in her room in the Pilot) I'm assuming she wouldn't have to learn from scratch and would have some basic skills already. Not sure what to think about Laurel beating up someone in the hospital, but I'm sure she has a good reason for it.
They should have never dropped the direction from S1 when they at least shown a bit that Laurel cares for the Glades and was fighting for them. But just like other plots it was just dropped.
ReplyDeleteI am also wondering if they will ever give us more input to Laurel and Thea. In the state Thea is now she could also feel resentful towards Laurel. We saw them bonding in season 1 and Laurel attempting to be a mentor to Thea and then we basically got nothing in S2.
Yeah, I think you're right about him mainly being support, which I don't mind, because I love his relationship with his daughters and it can involve him in an interesting storyline, even if he's not the focus.
ReplyDeleteAnd there it begins. 3 seconds in a promo and a kiss scene reduced Felicity into just a love interest. Wow. Did you fail to see all other spoilers for Felicity this season? She is getting a dedicated episode for her which is being shot now. She is crossing over to Flash and has friends there. She has a relationship with Ray Palmer.
ReplyDeleteLast season Felicity got shit done more than Laurel. She took down Slade, gave herself up as bait several times, took down clock king and was an awesome moral and tech support for Team Arrow. She even came up with plans to take down guys few times.
Lets over look all that and paint her as love interest.
Isn't this just promo for the premiere. And the date is part of that. Felicity has storylines coming with her mother returning, and possibly dealing with her nemesis the Clock King in the cross-over episodes with the Flash..
ReplyDeleteEven I don't mind. You don't need dedicated story lines for characters to be good. The scenes they have needs to be meaningful. That's the best part about Quentin. The way his character interacts with his daughters and even that one scene in hospital last season with Arrow after his buddy died was so powerful.
ReplyDeleteI went from disliking Quentin in S1 to really loving him in S2 and I absolutely love his relationship with his daughters and really enjoy his dynamic with Arrow. So if Laurel and Quentin are somehow involved in the Sara-League of Assassins storyline, then that's good enough for me.
ReplyDeleteWhile I'm aware (and expectant) of Felicity's upcoming storylines, it still bothers me that she is being merchandised as the love interest. Her only scene in this promo is as Ollie's love interest, and that's not fair to the character, and given how much of her season 2 revolved around her feelings for him, i'm not hopeful about how they can treat the character.
ReplyDeleteBut I do wanna be proven wrong, I so, and things like the first footage we have of her for the next season is being the love interest.
We don't know if this guy is a suspect. I hope not. I hope she is doing this so that she get some information to save someone and it has nothing to do with her job. I don't want she loses her bar license once more.
ReplyDeleteThe best thing for Laurel was her drive to get justice for people. If she is doing dubious stuff as DA to get conviction it wouldn't make sense or paint Laurel in a good light. Its different when some one does the same thing behind a mask.
I hope that he has information they need to stop something/save people and Arrow isn't around, so Laurel does what she needs to get the info (but is this from the first episode? Maybe not). I would have been ok with her losing her bar license last season, if they would have actually done something with that storyline, but since they didn't, I definitely don't want it to be repeated again.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you about Laurel's characterization and her drive for justice, which is why I hope it's to save lives, but Laurel is knowingly taking a step closer to being a vigilante/acting outside of the law and she gets conflicted over it afterwards. Being conflicted is good, it could be an interesting storyline to watch.
I actually think this promo was calculated. Since the 2.5 comics come out on Monday and they will tie in into elements of season 3. They want people to get excited and what better way then showing an Olicity kiss in the promo. So they will go and buy it.
ReplyDeleteAs I said above, I am looking forward for her storylines this season, but she is being still marketed as the love interest. First footage, BAM! love interest! Nothing else, just kiss.
ReplyDeleteI'm gonna stop you right there; this is not a competition between Laurel or Felicity, or any other woman, fuck that logic. If your first instinct is compare Felicity to other woman to validate her presence PLEASE DON'T.
The sad part, is that Felicity's awesome moment last season with Slade was due to her being put in the love interest position purposefully, making the wink wink nudge nudge they have feelings for each other so fucking obvious.
We need more Clock King moments and less "Oliver I care for yoUUUuuu" moments; and don't make me sad by counting the "moral support".
I really hope she gets to be herself again this season, only then I will be okay with her relationship with Oliver. I hated that last season almost all her scenes with Ollie were filtered to pander to shippers instead to actually build a more profound intimacy between them.
Their romantic build-up last season felt cheap, keeping Ollie oblivious and Felicity pining, and I really hated it.
One kiss equal love inteerest why make a deal out of it who cares it a marketing strategy
ReplyDeleteThat only makes it cheaper.
ReplyDeleteA cheap one that certainly succeeded.
ReplyDeleteLook, I'm worried because we KNOW how hard they suck at writing romance, and if they are showcasing Felicity as the love interest, I don't have my hopes up.
Why does it make it cheaper? They want people excited and draw more people in to watch the premiere. So what they should advertise something that people don't care about? And maybe they want to draw in some people who weren't sure of the direction the show will take in season 3.
ReplyDeleteI also hope she is trying to get info from the guy maybe to stop a bombing or some thing on a Team Arrow mission. And I also hope the guy is not a part of her job at all. I don't want to see people question her morals again.
ReplyDeleteWhat I want is for them to show us Laurel fighting hard to put some bad guys away and they get out on technicalities or they break out. Something has to happen for Laurel to decide her working in justice system is not enough and she needs to go out there as a mask for the higher good.
Personally I don't want Laurel to be conflicted too much this season. She was conflicted about Arrow and his morals season 1. In season 2 after she knew Oliver and Sara's secret she was conflicted what to do with the news until Quentin and her had a discussion. So conflict time is over for me. Now its time for Laurel to get a motivation to start suiting up.
We know palmer is felicity love interest not oliver.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you about not wanting the beat up guy to be part of her job and for her morals to be questioned again. And yeah, I've been wondering for a while now what could happen in the first few episodes, to get Laurel to decide that the justice system isn't working and that she needs to take up a mask for the greater good (or start on that journey), because I feel like something has to happen for her to make that switch, maybe it's something that happens with this guy? Or maybe, as you said, someone walks on a technicality/breaks out. Either way, I want there to be a reason for her transformation and I want to see her struggle with what's right and what's wrong and how far does she take it.
ReplyDeleteWhen I say conflicted, I don't mean the whole season or every episode, but I also don't want her to just jump into being a vigilante without a second to pause. Going from a lawyer to someone who beats people up and acts outside the law is a huge step, so I want to see some conflict for her and for her to figure out who Laurel the Vigilante is, as opposed to Oliver the vigilante or Sara the vigilante. I want her to figure out her own identity and for it to not just be a switch that is flipped for her. And it's one thing to accept someone else doing something, it's a whole other thing to do it yourself, so while I don't want her being conflicted all the time, there are milestones that should give her pause on her journey.
; )
ReplyDeleteYou know that's not what I mean; what it bothers me, is that Felicity's relevance to the story becomes more and more her relationship with Oliver. And I'm positively sure that Palmer will only serve as an obstacle for Olicity when all is said and done.
ReplyDeleteAnddd it all adds up. Technically it is a Canadian promo. They're the only ones that air this early. Why is it? B/c they only released it at the Canadian Fan Expo yesterday. (Despite the logo) it was only released there. Which is why we haven't seen it on our tvsTVs yet.
ReplyDeleteBecause it bothers me that Felicity being Oliver's love interest is a selling, marketable point; because it bothers me that instead of showing us real intimacy between them, they go for a cheap hot kiss.
ReplyDeleteWell we know the question she asked (hell I would've too) iI had some theories on that as well. But i'mI'm not gonna explain it at 5:12 in the morning. Lol TBC.
ReplyDeleteI think once the motivation for being a vigilante is established for Laurel, be it a convict escaping and doing harm, or something to do with Sara, there is no need for conflict for the character. Laurel does not do well with conflict. She often comes of wishy washy. I want the motivation to be a strong one and then she decides she needs to do something to help people and jump into it.
ReplyDeleteMy fear is they will not show strong enough motivation. I don't want her to be a vigilante just because Oliver and Sara is."Is it me or my sister" question is making me worry.
Arrow withdrawal is making me ansty too. Actually you know the spoilers is not that Olicity heavy if you look into it. Its just the same spoiler said again and again a million times whenever we click on a link. They have given away other plot points too but they are not printed this many times or is been made titles for news feeds even if it is printed. Its the media that is the problem.
ReplyDeleteI am actually looking forward to the Flash double date. Its going to be hilarious. Barry and Felicity are not seriously dating so it would be fun to see them navigate through that dinner with Iris. It is going to be more comedy than anything serious.
Thea is going to be awesome this season. I am looking forward to it most. How evil will she be when we see her again? Will Malcolm have full control? Will she resent Oliver this season? They did leave off in better terms. How will Oliver and Thea meet? Will it be in costumes? Or will she meet Roy first? I have so many questions. October is far away.
I liked Katie as Ruby as well, they had the character very strong and most of the time straight to the point and she pulled it off well. Laurel started off strong but seemed to dip in character majorly in S2 and from the first couple of episodes of S1 it looked like they were grooming her to be BC.
ReplyDeleteThey dropped her fight for glades in favor of putting her in a love triangle. That is ultimately what destroyed Laurel. The backstory and even lack of chemistry and bad acting(my opinion) would have been overlooked if the character was shown a hero in her own way. After all that's what we expect from BC.
ReplyDeleteI don't think we will see any Thea/Laurel interaction much this season. They started the mentor thing in season 1 but dropped it once Roy Harper got introduced. In season 2 there was no warmth in their interactions. Anyway Thea has more chemistry with Sin than Laurel. Thea most probably will interact with Oliver, Malcolm and Roy. Laurel with Oliver, Sara, Quentin and Wild cat.
I do think she needs a clear motivation, but I feel like it would be out of character for her if she just jumps in and doesn't even once hesitate or is conflicted from here on out. I don't want her to be wishy washy, but I don't want it to be a "personality transplant" situation, where someone is just completely transformed into someone else without us seeing the journey. And yeah, she needs to be a vigilante for herself and not because of Oliver or Sara. I'm hoping the "is it me or my sister" question is about her finding her own way as a vigilante, rather than copying anyone else. Yes, her sister went there first, so she's probably wondering if she's not emulating her, but I want the end result for Laurel to be her own hero, with her own way of doing things and her own drive. That's my hope, anyway.
ReplyDeleteThis just makes me want more Teen Team Arrow interaction. I always thought of Sin, Thea and Roy (before he joined Team Arrow) as their own little vigilante team.
ReplyDeleteYes, I know it's basically the same spoiler over and over again, just differently phrased, I think that's part of what's driving me crazy, LOL. And yeah, there was the "31 things about S3" spoiler that had a lot of goods about other characters, so we are getting some spoilers about things that aren't Olicity and also about Felicity that isn't Olicity, which is my bigger concern, since I felt like in S2 she may have been in every episode, but she got zero character development.
ReplyDeleteI get secondhand embarrassment, I feel like I'll be hiding behind something the whole double date, LOL. I hate awkwardness.
I hope Thea is more misguided and used (by Merlyn) rather than evil, especially since Oliver said that she's the best of the family. I'm excited for her journey, but I'm also worried how dark they'll take her, since I want her to end up on the good side when the dust has settled. I feel like, based on a few spoilers, she'll probably meet or interact with Roy first. I definitely can't wait for the show to finally start again so I can start watching all these exciting storylines.
haven't watched the HQ version but on the grainy one, I first thought it was Roy then I switched to Malcolm. I kept going back and fourth on it.
ReplyDeleteBut her personality did change through the journey of season 2. However shoddy that story telling was, her taking in Helena's advise and start blackmailing is an indication of she now is not above trying alternative extreme methods to reach her goals. If she has reconciled herself with blackmail she should have no problem with being a vigilante. I really wish they made her use blackmail for helping someone other than to get her and her dad's job. That would have worked nicely with her journey.
ReplyDeleteAnother fear I have for Laurel is they don't shows her trying being a vigilante before she gets any training with wild cat. She has a history of going headlong into fights in this show. Roy had same issue but he is young and a sidekick. Laurel is supposed to be mature and BC. Last season finale when she was in the lair and she asked/demanded to be taken along to fight and then went there anyway didn't come off right imo. I hope they don't do something like that this season and give her a maturity that is missing from the character till now. I have a bad feeling they might make her try to be a vigilante on her own and fail and then get training from wild cat.
never in a million years i thought they would kiss this soon in the season! i'm really excited.
ReplyDeleteTeam B was so much fun. Thea and Sin had such a great dynamic. No jealousy, no doubt but instant friendship and acceptance after the mayor episode. They were so much fun. I loved it when Thea dressed Sin up.
ReplyDeleteThis is such an amazing promo, I really love it. And the new logo! BOMBASTIC!
ReplyDeleteI don't know why people are getting so upset about the Olicity kiss! Let them kiss it looks beautiful. NO ONE is labeled as a solo love interest or what so ever.
The episode is revolving around the date so it's appropriate that they feature it a bit.
Thea looks intense, looking forward to her development and I really hope Laurel quits being a lawyer by the middle of the season. She should do a less prominent job.
Yes, she did get darker when she used blackmail (twice) to get what she wanted, but I feel like there's a difference between blackmail and physical violence, it's an extra step and isn't equal to blackmail. Just like you can't say that someone who beats people up should have no problem killing someone, or someone who commits white collar crime should have no problem committing violent crime, because they're both crimes. I do think being a vigilante is different than resorting to blackmail and shouldn't be treated like a natural progression. (yes, I also wish the blackmail wasn't for selfish reasons, but I also wish they didn't have Thea shoot Malcolm the way she did, since it was OOC for her- it wasn't when she just saw him or if he said something that set her off, it was literally in the middle of a sentence and seemed very unlikely to me).
ReplyDeleteI hope you're wrong about her trying to be a vigilante without any training, because that definitely would be impulsive and stupid. I think she's meeting Ted Grant at the end of episode 3, so I guess we'll have to wait and see what she gets up to in those 3 episodes and what sets her off to become a vigilante and want to get training. At the very least I don't want her to jump into a fight, fail and need Oliver to save her. If they're going to have her try and fight before she gets training, maybe they can have the fight be forced upon her, like someone attacking her (the amount of times Laurel has been attacked or kidnapped without looking for a fight makes this seem possible). We still don't know what she's been doing these past few months (off screen)- maybe she took up more self defense classes to at least get her at a level where she can defend herself against a regular bad guy, but she realizes that if she's serious about this and wants to go after bigger fish, she needs proper training? I dunno, it won't be long before we find out, either way.
The thing that ruined Laurel is the love triangle and her ever changing feelings for Oliver in season 1. If they had put those in back burner and focused on her helping some poor unlucky troubled people the reaction to the character would have been different now. They should have shown her being heroic without fighting in season 1. Season 2 the problem was not story but bad execution which compounded on the mess in season 1.
ReplyDeleteI prefer the complete promo, it has everything in it I love about arrow only wiggle missing....
ReplyDeleteI would love it if they show us Laurel going to or returning from a self defense/fight training class in the first episode. That can be the first stepping stone to her journey and would make it more believable if she picks up fight techniques faster from wild cat. I still think if the motivation is really strong and her faith in justice system erodes completely then there is no need for conflict once she decides to become a masked hero. We will see how this will turn out in the show.
ReplyDeleteI like the idea of Laurel being forced into a fight and as a result going for more training. I need some Laurel and Thea spoilers.... Damn.
Totally feel for you
ReplyDeleteOliver is happy but you know that won't last which is really bad for him.
ReplyDeleteI think it's probably too much to ask for, but yeah, it would be nice if they showed (or since the show isn't big on showing what's happening to characters that aren't Oliver- tell at least) that Laurel went for more self defense/fight training before going to Wild Cat, it would definitely help make her fast evolving skills more believable.
ReplyDeleteDepends on what she does, I do think some conflict or soul searching is in order. Like I said, there are several milestones/steps that if crossed, you can't go back from and it's an escalation. There's blackmail and then there's twisting a guy's arm to get information, then there's beating someone up. Strong motivation will make sure she keeps at it, but I do want some reflection on her part about her journey, who she was, who she's becoming, what are her red lines, what she's willing to compromise, etc.
I definitely need more Laurel and Thea spoilers, or for the show to start so we can get to see their journey, because there's so much potential and possibility there for both of them and I'm also ready to see them kicking ass.
Why did she take drugs last season? Why did she blame everyone for her problems? Why was she attracted to Blood?
ReplyDeleteToo bad the show has not established that she has any kind of green thumb or interest in flowers. I would have loved to see The Sherwood Florist on the show.
ReplyDeleteYou have to consider that the promo showed at Comic Con was based on the first two episodes, i don't think Thea or Malcolm are going to show up at those episodes, so there was very little footage.
ReplyDeleteI'm well aware of that and I actually think the promo was only based on the first episode, not the first two. I definitely didn't expect Thea or Malcolm in it, when they hadn't filmed anything yet, nor did I expect huge spoilers. But I feel like unless the Olicity date takes up 50% of the episode, there's definitely more that they could have shown us, but I did enjoy what we did see for the other characters (Oliver-Diggle confrontation, Oliver-Laurel working together, Ray Palmer, Sara being back).
ReplyDeleteWhile I do feel like Olicity was a main focal point of the promotion, it won't be the focal point of the season. And I feel as though there was a lot of teasing on set with other characters, none of them caused as much commotion as any of the olicity spoilers which is why it's understandable that they promote Olicity.
ReplyDeleteAnd it's funny because while there are other characters in this promo, all people can talk about is the kiss (just take a look at this board). There isn't much chatter about Thea at the end *swoons* or Laurel beating up a guy in a hospital (a questionable choice for Ms. Lance. I hope she knows she can't beat everyone up because that could be considered harassment which could make her lose her job).
It doesn't seem like Laurel going down the BC route just yet because she seems to have lost her sense of justice and morality (blackmailing twice, beating up a guy in a hospital, shooting and killing a man with no emotional ramifications) which is my issue because there's a cognitive dissonance between what Laurel does and what the EPs and KC says Laurel's like. I hope they don't forget what Laurel did in the past because I can't really stand retconning, I just hope they make her grow out of it.
I know right... Poor Oliver. That scene with bloodied Felicity lying on the med bay and Oliver standing over her is going to hurt. Poor thing. He just started smiling.
ReplyDeleteknowing this show, the Olicity kiss is a dream. Whoever doesn't at least consider that hasn't learned anything.
ReplyDeleteI love seeing Laurel be badass.
ReplyDeleteshe means in the promo, Laurel and Thea and Sara are shown as more badass.
ReplyDeleteOh, I definitely agree that there's a lot more that will happen in S3 than Olicity, which is why I can't wait for the show to start, but it's the promotion that's driving me a bit crazy and you're right, all people talk about with the promo is the Olicity kiss, rather than Thea-Merlyn or what the hell Laurel is doing beating someone up. I definitely hope that person has information that could save lives (maybe about the bombing) and Laurel gets desperate so she goes for the physical persuasion. I don't want it to be Laurel going for an easy route to get what she wants, like with the blackmail, I want it to be for the greater good and because she thinks it's the only way to save lives.
ReplyDeleteI don't think Laurel will become BC right away, but I do think she'll start her journey early on (she's meeting Ted Grant in episode 3). And honestly... The writers are not very good with character consistency and characters not acting OOC. So Laurel blackmailing twice in order to show her going down a darker path and paving the way for her becoming a vigilante is probably what they were going for, whether or not it's a sudden transformation for her or not. And don't forget Thea just shooting Malcolm- not when he first shows up or after he says something that sets her off, but in the middle of a sentence. That was prety OOC for a 19 y-o who never shot anyone before in her life. So don't expect emotional ramifications from killing someone (or trying to in Thea's case) unless your name is Roy and they make a storyline out of it.
I'm only here for Laurel kicking butt!!! YAAAAAAS you go girl!!!
ReplyDeleteI guess my problem is that the writers always stress that Laurel is a do gooder when the exact opposite comes off on screen. They really need to learn how to write Laurel because if they don't, not many people will be on board with her character (3 seasons to warm up to a character is a bit much, and it seems as though a lot of people online dislike her).
ReplyDeleteI never really considered Thea to go through an emotional transformation by shooting Malcolm. Looking back, after Thea shot Malcolm she looked like she was in disbelief or maybe even scared shitless in a "what have I done?" sort of way. But we didn't really get to explore this because Malcolm got right back up. So it's not really fair to compare Thea's situation to Laurel's. Thea, in the end, never did kill anyone whilst Laurel actually did. In fact it would be more appropriate to compare Roy to Laurel because even though Roy was under the influence and had no say in the matter, he still killed someone. And Laurel essentially had no choice but to kill someone.
And regarding Ted Grant, I don't think Laurel could ever become a world class martial artist just by training a little bit with Grant (who's only a recurring character and whose actor has currently been cast as a lead in another show so it seems like we won't see much of him). Laurel's only had self defense training, with her job and other obligations, it seems logistically unrealistic for Laurel to ever become as good a fighter as Sara. And IDK about you, but I don't want BC (a fiercely independent woman) to be GAs sidekick on the show. Because that's all I see her being unfortunately. Will the writers change my mind? It'll take a hell of a lot to, but if they rush Laurel's arc, then I definitely won't be on board. And we all know the writers have a thing for rushing things.
I really hope they make laurel likable and make her moments less 'wtf' and more 'go laurel'! Right now they're truly straddling a thin line.
I don't think Laurel is a "do gooder", but I do think she has a strong moral code, that took a bit of a beating in S2, especially with the blackmailing part, but maybe it's intended to show Laurel coming around to a more morally grey way of thinking, to help pave the way to her eventually becoming a vigilante. Honestly, the writers seem to always fail in showing Laurel's perspective and helping her gain sympathy. The whole drugs and alcohol downward spiral was NOT handled well, we never got enough of her POV and suffering, how she blames herself for Tommy's death, instead she was made to look the bad guy when Sara (an assassin, for crying out loud) had to bring Oliver to the family dinner without considering Laurel's feelings, who only agreed to it to try and help her parents get back together. And let's not talk about the weird retcon with Laurel apparently calling the cops on a party and stopping Sara from getting together with Oliver, so I guess that's supposed to make the affair ok and paint Sara as the good guy? I don't know.
ReplyDeleteThe should be changed by the fact that she tried to kill someone, but that wasn't my point- it was OOC, in my opinion, for a 19 year old who has never shot or really fought anyone in her life, so shoot someone and try and kill them. If it was when he just showed up and she acted on instinct or after he said something to set her off, I'd understand, but it was after several minutes of interaction and when he was in the middle of a sentence- it was cold and for me it was OOC.
Unfortunately, I don't think the writers cared much that Laurel killed someone, because he was a bad guy and by now, I doubt they even remember it happened.
My hope is that Laurel starts her BC training and while she's still growing and evolving, starts fighting crime, maybe on a smaller scale than Oliver. I don't need Ted in every episode for that and I haven't heard of the actor having a different show, but that doesn't mean he won't appear on Arrow, the scheduling could work out, who knows. Hell, I'd love it if Laurel has several teachers and we get Lady Shiva afterwards, advancing her skills. I don't want Laurel to ever be Oliver (or anyone's) sidekick, but I don't think we need to wait until she's a world renown martial artist for her to get in on the action. Like I said, we can see her growing into it, while also fighting crime, as she gets better and better and her opponents get stronger and stronger.
I feel like with Laurel finding out about Oliver being Arrow, the writers finally know what to do with the character, after two seasons of badly written side storylines, lots of dinners in S1 and not much else. Now that her BC storyline can finally start, I'm hoping her character will live up to her potential and be the character she was meant to. I'm ready to be a fan, some people it's probably "too little, too late" and some people are predisposed to hating her, no matter what she does. Can't please everyone, they should focus on making her a good, independent character.
What if that Olicity kiss or any of those other scenes end up being deleted scenes (they don't show them in the episode)? It's happened before you know. Remember the fight between Roy and Nyssa that they showed in a promo?
ReplyDeleteLMAO! Quite surprisingly there isn't a lot of Olicity bashing.
ReplyDeleteIf I'm being completely honest, while I was excited about the prospect of Olicity, I was always reluctant for them being together because I was unsure of whether or not EBR and SA would be able to translate that chemistry into a more romantic one if you know what I mean... But damn has that promo silenced all my qualms about these two!
I just hope that the writers aren't rushing them. I know they're going to be apart for the rest of the season, but I hope the writers know what they're doing with this relationship. I honestly don't think I can take any petty attempts at keeping them apart like cheating, lying, etc.
Have you seen her in any of her other roles. There is a reason for that strong fan base. There are people who like Katie in everything else except her role on Arrow.
ReplyDeleteSee, I'd be willing to think of Laurel as someone with a strong moral code if it wasn't for two things. KC and the EPs always bringing up that Laurel is a do-gooder, and Laurel blackmailing and killing in season 2. The fact that they're trying to sell to us that Laurel is a do gooder yet she does all of these morally ambiguous things makes Laurel look wishy-washy and not strong at all. I try not to judge Laurel based on other characters because I have my own issues with Roy and Thea. Just because Thea didn't have a meltdown doesn't mean that Laurel is any better because of it tbqh. In fact, it just makes both of them look bad and Roy look like the one with stronger morals.
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately I feel like the writers don't care for Laurel at all especially with siccing her with lines like "I know you like I know my own name"...
I'd be okay with Laurel becoming BC if most of her evolving as a character doesn't happen off screen as it has in seasons 1 and 2. However, I also don't want the show to focus on Laurel's arc because this show isn't called Arrow and Canary. It's just Arrow. And I know it's unfair because in order for me to believe Laurel will become the BC, she needs to be focused on a bit more, yet I don't think I could also accept Laurel having more screentime than Digg/Felicity... So I think I pretty much set a lose-lose situation for myself. Alas, only I will end up being disappointed. :p Oh well.
That being said, I know a lot of comic fans want this but I do NOT want Oliver to train Laurel. Not because I don't ship Lauriver. But I just feel like if Laurel were to become a world class martial artist, then training with Oliver won't get her there at all. In fact, training with Oliver would sooner make her into a sidekick.
Must you say such things Brian???
ReplyDeleteI kind of have a feeling this could very well be the case, but I don't think they would cut something like this because that would just cause a lot of backlash with the fandom they most heavily promoted to this entire summer.
Does any one know which came first in the fandoms? Olicity or Lauriver? Is Lauriver just a reaction to Olicity? Did people just expect an on again off again relationship between Oliver and Laurel with Oliver sleeping with different women in between before Felicity came into the picture? Stephen Amell even suggested to the writers that he stop sleeping around. So it sounds like they are making Oliver into something like Clark Kent and not like the character (pre-New 52 at least) in the comics.
ReplyDeleteEVERYONE other than Oliver suffered as a character in S2, Laurel isn't alone there. Thea had no character development and was just the supporting girlfriend until the last few episodes, Roy's Mirakuru storyline was terrible and his "crucible" or development into a hero was a joke, Diggle got two episodes and little else, Felicity was just there and didn't really get any development or focus and don't get me started on how they ruined Slade and fridged Shado in the process. Maybe I didn't read enough interviews, but the 'do gooder' seems to apply more to S1 Laurel than S2, while in S2 she was supposed to go through her own 'crucible' and hit rock bottom, at least that was the intention. And I think her scenes in 'Birds of Prey' with Sara and Helena gave a pretty good indication to her morality (not the blackmailing in the end, everything else) as well as her later scene with Sara when she tells her she's a hero, or motivates Oliver to not basically commit suicide, but to keep fighting. That's who Laurel is, the writers just suck at showing character development and like it happening off screen, unless you're Oliver.
ReplyDeleteWell, you've admitted that there's no pleasing you, since you don't want Laurel's development to be off screen but you also don't want her to get screentime for said development. I'm hoping all the characters get proper focus on S3, I don't think Laurel getting screentime should mean Diggle or Felicity don't get any, especially when we know Felicity is getting a love interest and will have a backstory episode, while Diggle has impending fatherhood, clashing with Oliver, the whole HIVE story with his brother, etc.
Oh God, I do NOT want Oliver to train Laurel, it was bad enough when he helped train Helena and was part of why she was dark side. I want Laurel to be Oliver's equal, I don't want her to be his sidekick or trained by him, though I don't mind her working with team Arrow, at least not at this stage.
Felicity doesn't need to physically hurt somebody to be badass. She is badass with her computer. Why would every female have to be kick-ass vigilante. And i am sorry the Laurel scene looked like she causing harm to an already injured person so to me it doesn't scream kick-ass woman, just makes me confuse since they always tell do-gooder Laurel.
ReplyDeleteThe scenes in the promo are not shown in chronological order. The scene with Sara knocking Oliver to the ground with her staff is going to be at the beginning of the episode. It's Sara that suggests to Oliver that he date someone (Felicity) who doesn't wear a mask (watch the other promo).
ReplyDeleteI think the initial plan when the show started was for the journey of Laurel towards BC to last the whole five seasons. I think I saw somewhere an interview stating that. Their plan was for the flashback Oliver's journey to parallel to real time Laurel. The lack of chemistry between the actors and audience's reaction changed that plan. Now they are in a difficult situation. If they take too much time to make her BC fans will get fed up of her. If they make her BC fast it will be unbelievable. I think they are going the fast track way after all they did it with Roy. This will be least damaging to the character. In no way or form Laurel's BC ever will be of the same level of Oliver's GA in this show. If only they even mentioned in passing her turning to fight training for focus after Oliver and Sara died.
ReplyDeleteOh definitely. After she becomes a vigilante there definitely will be soul searching episodes. She will have to think about how far she is willing to go for justice once difficult cases come her way. What I meant was I don't want to her conflicted about whether or not to be a vigilante.
ReplyDeleteOliver has that slightly nervous teenage boy look on his face when he asks Felicity out so it wouldn't make sense to have a kiss before he asks her out.
ReplyDeleteNo, I know that everyone (including Oliver) suffered as a character in season 2. Like I said, I have my own beef with the other characters. But that in no way affects how I view Laurel. Did the other characters have a crappy season? Yes, I'd like to talk about that as well but that wasn't what the discussion was about. We were talking about Laurel's failures as a character in season 2, no one else.
ReplyDeleteThea and Roy I can believe being a sidekick because that's essentially who Speedy will be, they don't need to be world class martial artists. With Laurel, there's a sense of expectation when it comes to her because she is supposed to /become/ a world class martial artist and a heroine, not a sidekick. So I would tend to judge her on a different scale. While season 2 was supposed to be her crucible, it was a half baked excuse of one which makes her arc less believable. I never saw it as a crucible because almost everything that Laurel lost, she gained back. If they used Tommy's death as her motivation to become a superhero, then I would've been all for it, but they didn't. And that's just a shame and a waste of potential.
But yeah, unfortunately KC did say that Laurel was a do-gooder in season 2 interviews. I think they were in January or something. It just made me wonder if KC understands the nuances of her character. If she did, she wouldn't call Laurel a do-gooder. More like a character with a strong sense of morality who is currently in crisis or something like that. Do-gooder just implies 'mary-sue' imo, which I don't think Laurel is.
Trust me, I'm trying to change my way of thinking. I hope that when the time comes, i'll accept Laurel becoming BC and be happy about it. I hope the writers do her justice because I know the comic fans deserve it more than the clusterf*ck they've been given in season 2. So fingers crossed the writers make Laurel's journey believable and not rushed at all! :) I hope you get what you want out of season 3, I really do!
Isnt the post-production for episode 1 already finished? I know Suzanne Gomez already got to watch it on the 25th and was doing a little live tweeting.
ReplyDeleteThere was supposed to be a kiss in the mansion and it was cut. You can see in the scene that they are not in the mansion. And I don't see any reason it would be a flashback. Why have a flashback when you can just do a real time scene?
ReplyDeleteI mean, part of the problem is their reluctance to just go all in and say Laurel will become the BC. Just rip the bandaid off! Sure there will be some haters, but it will quiet down after a while. I don't think that the writers nor EPs are fully committed with that arc and in the end it's Laurel who suffers. Like I said, they're straddling a very thin line for Laurel. I think this is why the EPs are keeping quiet about her because then Laurel will be up for a lot of scrutiny which I don't think they're ready for.
ReplyDeleteThe do-gooder interviews were in April, the cast was already finished with filming the finale. And KC was doing several interviews then.
ReplyDeleteI have no idea about that Brian. I came into this fandom only in season 2. I also would like to know an answer to this question. I think since Lauriver was shown meant to be earlier in season 1 they had their supporters. I have seen many people say they rooted for Lauriver first but were put off after seeing two episodes of this pairing.
ReplyDeleteOh got it. I just want her to explore her own identity as a vigilante, what her red lines are, how she goes about it, etc, rather than just copy Oliver or Sara. Yeah, once she decides to be a vigilante, I want her to go all the way with it, just to figure out what it means exactly along the way, rather than just be instant!vigilante, you know?
ReplyDeleteSince that scene looked like it is from episode 1 (Felicity's dress is the same when they meet Ray Palmer) I don't think they will cut this scene. Episode 1 is already finished editing.
ReplyDeleteI think Lauriver came first (comic book canon and all), and Olicity was a reaction to Lauriver? I mean people in season 1 were apparently shipping Oliver/Thea so it just goes to show that Lauriver wasn't working, so shippers jumped ship and onto Olicity? IDK. Pure speculation here.
ReplyDeleteAm I the only one who noticed how buff Felicity's arms have gotten? Damn EBR was really hitting the gym hard! This has been an obligatory "you go girl" post :p
ReplyDeleteJust because a woman kiss somebody and not beat up other people in a 3 second scene in a promo, it does not reduce her role in the show to only be a love interest. And just because we see Laurel twisting arm of an injured person, it does not make her BC or Thea chopping wood make her put on a mask and fight goons. It just means when the season starts there is a scene where Oliver and Felicity kiss, Laurel will twist someone's arm in a hospital and Thea is training (I hope) under Malcolm.
ReplyDeleteAnd she did say Felicity was reduced to a love interest in season 2. Read the above post. That's why I gave her that reply.
I agree to this whole heartedly. They should stop this ambiguous s**t about will Laurel be BC or not. They should just come out and say. Laurel will be BC we are taking such and such time to get there. Their reluctance to commit to that verbally makes me wonder if they are still not sure about her arc.
ReplyDeleteI don't mind Olicity due it being a fairly sane ship compared to every other CW ship BUT I hate the reactions to this video.
ReplyDeleteHell there is bigger stuff going on D:
That being said: remember the Klaroline kiss images they released and ended up being cut from the episode? Stuff they soley made to lure fans?
I tend to be more forgiving towards the character for crappy writing and characterization, when all the writers suffer from it across the board. Less forgiving towards the writers, who truly didn't know what to do with Laurel for almost two whole seasons. And yeah, Laurel's S2 'crucible' was half baked and not developed well enough, so I hope they give her good reasoning for becoming a vigilante and show her progress and development.
ReplyDeleteMaybe KC meant she has a strong morality and prior to S2 she was a do-gooder, maybe she didn't have all the info on what would happen with her character, maybe she used the wrong word, maybe she was misunderstood, I'm not going to crucify her for it, I care more about what I see on screen than what actors/writers/producers say, even though that does help show their POV and what they intended to do.
Don't force yourself to like anything or anyone, though it's nice that you're trying to keep an open mind. Since they ruined Slade, who was my favorite character, my S3 wish is good development and storylines for our ladies- Laurel, Thea and Felicity. For Laurel and Thea it's mostly to become badasses independent of Oliver or Roy, for Felicity it's being her own character, outside of Team Arrow and to get a good backstory.
For me the difference between the lack of development for other characters and Laurel is other characters were never given a dedicated story line like they gave one to Laurel last season. Roy was given one and that was a botched up job. That's why people have mixed views about him,
ReplyDeleteDigg had just two episodes focused on him. Thea had one where she got kidnapped and small scenes in later episodes. Felicity was not given any prominence at all except for clock king episode which was also focussed on Laurel. Even with such bad development these characters made us like him. Be it Thea with her sadness that everyone is lying to her or Felicity with her insecurity or Digg with his moral views changing due to Deadshot. These characters could do in one episode what Laurel couldn't do in one whole season ie; make people care about them and their journey.
Laurel got a season long arc and show dedicated some significant time on her character yet in the end more people started hating her. The actress, screen play, dialogue everything has a part in it. From season 1 on wards after Oliver it was Laurel who got most dedicated story lines. So comparing her to other characters is not right imo.
My bad, as someone stated below it was after filming and everything. I tend not to listen to KC anymore especially after the whole 'after she finds out Oliver is the Arrow she's more in love with him' spiel that I didn't understand at all. But yeah, I don't hate KC, I used to like her but now I'm indifferent. :/
ReplyDeleteAnd don't worry about it :p I kind of hate that I set up a lose-lose situation for Laurel. Don't know how that happened, it just did. But I'm pretty sure it's just me being stubborn so I'll get over it. I'd much rather see a badass Laurel than the whiny one we saw in season 2. Here's hoping she's less wishy washy in season 3!
Also fingers crossed for more Quentin Lance! Love that guy!
High five for an adult conversation about Laurel without it devolving to name calling and a petty fight? :p Most of my conversations about Laurel on other sites usually ends up with the other person calling me an idiot or being condescended. So yeah, thank you for not being an ass :p
I am sure there will be stages in her journey like they had in Oliver and Sara's. Roy is now Arsenal and knowing he killed a police officer is going to change his view, I am sure something like this will happen for laurel too.
ReplyDeleteRoy is one of those characters I seriously hope they can get me to like, 'cause right now he's not doing anything for me and they've botched up his storylines so far, hopefully his S3 storyline is better (I like cartoon Roy). Yeah, I'm hoping we see stages in Laurel's journey, it could be a really good storyline and development for her and she seriously needs a break in the writing department and to be allowed to be awesome and badass.
ReplyDeleteI definitely think part of it is her being the female lead, because most of the time, writers suck with writing the female lead and there are fans who seem to be allergic to a "forced" love interest built into the show and resent the character. But a lot of times the writers make the female lead just a love interest without proper development, so maybe fans have been conditioned by shows to hate the female leads, I dunno. I also think women get more hate for storylines/actions than male characters would get a pass for, plus there's just the sad fact that male writers tend to write better for male characters and not female characters, which is why we need more women behind the scenes.
ReplyDeleteOh no I know all fans can get like that. I try to call both sides out whenever I can. :p
ReplyDeleteI'm just getting tired of all of the haters on both sides. Why can't we just be civil or focus on the things we like???
I am wary regarding that theory, after learning that a female wrote the Time of Death episode. So its not always lack of female writing.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I got to say, all the hate and shipping wars has driven me out of the Arrow fandom, hopefully things improve with S3. I wish women weren't pitted against one another, when there's plenty of room for female characters and we should want more and not less. And there's more to any character than who they end up with, we should focus on character development and storylines instead of shipping wars (and honestly, Oliver isn't exactly a catch, LOL, I think both women deserve better). And yeah, I wish people were more civil or focused on things they liked, rather than hate, but I don't see that changing any time soon. I just pick my "battles" and focus on the discussion and stay out of the hate/wars, it helps me keep my sanity and love for the show.
