TNT Renews Three Summer Hits: The Last Ship, Major Crimes and Falling Skies
All Three Dramas Rank among Basic Cable's Top 5 Scripted Series So Far This Summer
Falling Skies to Wrap Up Epic Story in Fifth and Final Season
The Last ShipTNT has renewed three of its chart-topping summer hits: The Last Ship, Major Crimes and Falling Skies. All three dramas rank among basic cable's Top 5 scripted series this summer with total viewers and adults 25-54. They have also helped TNT score a significant lead as basic cable's #1 network in primetime for the summer-to-date.
TNT has ordered 13 episodes of The Last Ship, an increase over its first-season order of 10 episodes. The network is also ordering 15 episodes for season four of Major Crimes. And Falling Skies will mark its fifth and final season with 10 episodes.
"TNT's refreshed and recharged drama brand is soaring this summer, and that is due in large part to these three enormously popular dramas," said Michael Wright, president, head of programming for TNT, TBS and Turner Classic Movies (TCM). "The Last Ship has become this summer's top drama among key adult demos with its epic scale and visceral storytelling. Major Crimes continues to be one of the most enduring and popular crime-drama franchises on television. And Falling Skies has begun an ambitious and thrilling story arc this summer as it sets the stage for next year's climactic final season."
The Last Ship is a blockbuster hit in its first season, not only among total viewers but also among key adult demos. The action-packed drama from executive producer Michael Bay has averaged more than 7.2 million viewers in Live + 7 delivery in its first season and currently ranks as basic cable's #1 scripted series this summer with adults 18-49 and adults 25-54. The show is also cable's #1 new series for the year-to-date among total viewers and adults 25-54.
Major Crimes is showing an uptick over last year, with 7 million viewers in Live + 7 delivery for its third season so far. It ranks second behind Rizzoli & Isles among the summer's top scripted series on basic cable. Major Crimes has also drawn key demo deliveries of 2.1 million adults 25-54 and 1.5 million adults 18-49.
Falling Skies has averaged more than 5.5 million viewers in Live + 7 delivery for its fourth season, including 2.5 million adults 25-54 and 2.1 million adults 18-49. It ranks behind The Last Ship and Rizzoli & Isles among basic cable's Top 3 scripted series this summer with adults 25-54.
TNT's summer success also includes Rizzoli & Isles, which ranks as basic cable's #1 scripted series this summer. The show has brought in a whopping 8.5 million viewers in Live + 7 delivery in its fifth season, a slight increase over its summer average last year, and ranks right behind The Last Ship as basic cable's #2 scripted series this summer with key demos. In addition, TNT's new crime-drama Murder in the First has averaged 5.0 million viewers in Live + 7 delivery for its first season, and Perception is averaging 4.6 million viewers in Live + 7 delivery for its third season.
TNT will continue to roll out summer dramas in August. The network will launch the highly buzzed-about drama Legends, starring Sean Bean, on Wednesday, Aug. 13, at 9 p.m. (ET/PT). It will be followed by Franklin & Bash, which is coming back for its fourth season. And on Aug. 18, Dallas will return to continue its third season.
Complete descriptions for TNT's newly renewed series are included below. The network will announce additional summer renewals in the coming weeks.

Yay The Last Ship :)
ReplyDeleteYes the 5th season is also the final season for Falling Skies. Thanks the Lord.
ReplyDeleteThe show is really okay at best.
ReplyDeleteI would have been OK with 6th and final but 5seasons is perfect!
ReplyDeleteMurder in the Firstt is likely getting cancelled, as expected.
ReplyDeleteRizzoli & Isles renewal should be coming soon, per @Snoodit.
ReplyDeleteVery happy that Falling Skies has been renewed. I'm fine with it being a final season.
ReplyDeleteDeadline.com is reporting that it was the producers and not TNT that wanted and is ending the show at Season 5! TNT wanted more but apparently the producers didnt because they dont want the show to go past five seasons.
ReplyDeleteisnt "The Last Ship" based off of just one book?
ReplyDeletefalling skies is the worst written show on tv.
ReplyDeleteGlad for The LS! Has a lot of potential!
ReplyDeleteI'm just so glad this crappy show is finally ending next year. Only watching because it's so bad, it's funny. One of the worst shows on TV. Complete joke...
ReplyDeleteThat sucks it's been really good. I hope you're wrong like you were about Helix.
ReplyDeleteYeah it is
ReplyDeleteThe show isn't that good. Very average at best.
ReplyDeleteAnd as much as I hate it, I can't seem to quit it.
ReplyDeleteWhat's with these addictingly bad shows that manage to ruin premises that are filled with so much promise?
I didn't say it's great, I said it has potential. They have some great moments, writing wise, but there is to much blowing up and stuff to get really invested with the characters. Eric Dane is doing a good job but needs to interact more with characters.
ReplyDeleteThe writing has had some bright spots, but overall the writing seems to be lazy and very unconvincing. Eric Dane has done a good job with his character, but none of the any other characters are really that interesting. I really don't think the show has much potential at all. The show seems to care more about explosions than writing and character development.
ReplyDeleteThey don't know how to hire good or even descent writers. The show is just utter crap. To me, it should be classified as a comedy.
ReplyDeleteTo each their own I guess. It is my favorite new show this summer.
ReplyDeleteVery happy that The Last Ship is renewed. Of all the summer shows I've seen this season, it is my favorite and the one that keeps my attention best.
ReplyDeleteGlad The Last Ship was renewed!
ReplyDeleteIt's definitely my least favorite new show this summer. It's really starting to lose me
ReplyDeleteIts only on its 4th epsiode, give it time.On a ship did you really expect to have 4,8,or 12 strong characters all at once?Considering what the story is about its going to be slow going at least in the beginning..
ReplyDeleteHow is it your favorite? It's average at best.
ReplyDeleteLike I said. To each their own. You are spending a lot of time trashing it on this thread, but I think it's great.
ReplyDeleteThe season only has 10 episodes so it really needs to pick up. The next episode looks fine, but it doesn't look that good.
ReplyDeleteIts ratings are the same as King & Maxwell, which was cancelled.
ReplyDeleteJust because it is average to you doesn't mean it is average to everyone. I love the plot and the tension. I find myself engrossed in whatever the new challenge is, including last week's search for water even though that plot would normally bore me. I find the interplay between Tom and Slattery very interesting and am enjoying getting to know new characters each week. And yes, I do like the explosions and gunfire as well.
ReplyDeleteWell, it's not great. But i wouldn't say the worst written. There are a few i dropped, whose writing is worse imo: Under the Dome, Law and Order SVU, In The Flesh, & The Following, to name a few.
ReplyDeleteJust want to know, what other TV shows do you watch?
ReplyDeleteI'm sure you heard the saying to each his own. I love the show,it holds my attention there is suspense with lots of tension. They do have other characters beside the Captain that are interesting,we are just starting to learn about these people,it takes time and just because there are only 10 episodes doesn't mean we are going to learn everything about them now. And really, who doesn't love the concept with big baddies wanting to take over the world?
ReplyDeleteDid you really find it necessary to basically comment the same thing on everyones post that said they really liked or enjoyed The Last Ship? I think it's been one of the 4 best new dramas this summer and my Dad has been especially enjoying it. It's become one of his can't miss shows.
ReplyDeleteONCE has Regina and Rumple, Falling skies does not have characters like that at its worst it is still better than Falling , the show can also be slow and boring sometimes. Classic case of interesting premise bad execution.
ReplyDeleteIn the flesh is really good but Under the dome and the following those shows are bad the writing on those shows is epically bad.
I watch television for entertainment could care less about writing per say l don't over analyse the shows l watch. It makes watching tv a pleasure.
Yes to Falling Skies and the Last Ship! Still need to watch Sunday's episodes, though.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad TNT decided to put a ribbon on Falling Skies because there has officially been one writing staff change too many. I'm not particularly enjoying the current season much at all and I'm hoping that setting and end will give the remainder of the series some much needed direction and course correction.
ReplyDeleteTNT may ordered a fifth and final season but it was the producers decision to end next yr. Which is rare for shows now an days.
ReplyDeleteI love Falling Skies , but its a good call to make the 5th season its last.
ReplyDeleteAny chance for dominion renewal????
ReplyDeleteThe last ship has grt potential to go as firefly.luckily they r not in fox nw.
ReplyDeleteSeason 4 is a lot diff from prev seasons.and not in a good way
ReplyDeleteFor me, at least Falling Skies has aliens, descent fight scenes, and some good plot ideas. Even if those plots are poorly executed. But like you said, i don't over analyze it. There are shows i analyze: Continuum, Orphan Black, The Walking Dead, Battlestar Galactica, Breaking Bad, Rectify, ect... But those tend to be either deep character studies, or complex conspiracy thrillers. Falling Skies like The Last Ship, are neither of those types of shows. They are just fun action series, and that's ok with me.
ReplyDeleteI love Rumple too, i just wish they leave him as a villain. Regina being redeemed is enough. I started with season 3. I was channel surfing one night, and came across it. Regina was throwing a fireball at evil mermaids. I decide to give it a try, even though it's not my typical type of show. Though they drug it out, i really enjoyed most season 3. I went back and watched season 1, it was good. Except the end, felt a bit off. Jennifer Morrison's (Emma) acting is hit and miss. I took a break, and then started season 2. The beginning was ok, but i'm having trouble getting motivated to watch it. That usually means, i'm losing interest.
I'm thrilled that Major Crimes is renewed for a fourth season. One of the best shows on TNT.
ReplyDeleteStellar ensemble cast, great writing, good crime solving stories. A must see in my house!!
