The X-Files - FOX in talks for reboot

Thanks to Wolf for the heads up.

New leadership at 20th Century Fox TV and Fox networks could be paving the way for more Mulder and Scully

Nine seasons and two movies later, people still can't enough of “The X-Files.” Now, it seems neither can original creator Chris Carter.

In a new interview with Vulture, Carter has once again hinted that there may be more to come, and it could be an even more likely possibility than ever with the recent change in leadership over at 20th Century Fox TV and the Fox network, the production company and network on which the original “X-Files” series aired.

  1. Mixed feelings on this one. The original was legendary but FOX has no good ideas left and it has been long enough since the show ended. I think we need some casting ideas from the Spoiler TV peanut gallery...

  2. Seth Gabel/Julie McNiven

This is a terrible idea though.

  3. A sequel? Yeah. A reboot? Hell no.

  4. I did love The X Files , if it did happen i would only really watch it if Gillian Anderson and David david duchovny were returning.

  5. Not sure how i feel about this? On one hand i want to jump for joy and the other..how can X-Files ever be re-booted.

  6. On a network full of terrible ideas (and ideas taken from other networks) that's not saying much. I like that you threw Julie McNiven in there. She doesn't get enough work, imo.

  7. If it's a return like 24 recent return with original actors then I am for it.But,no to a reboot.A X-files without would likely just be prodcal show with monsters of the week.No conspiracy. No Mythology.

  8. I'd watch it if it was good. I guess we'll have to wait and see. I loved the show. I've missed it for a long time.

  9. The show has been off the air for 12 years. Most of the demo they'd be going for would be too young to care about the original that much. Add to that a decent amount of the audience of the first series sampling the new one and you've got a show that stands a chance.

  10. Why reboot, why not just continue the story?

  11. Dear God, please don't call this a reboot if it would be like the 24 return. You almost gave me a heart attack.

  12. I NEED THE THIRD MOVIE, NOT A REBOOT.

    Please don't happen

Fox need some new show..........with 24 future unknown and Bones might be gone after season 10......there is no new show beside Gotham and returning SH

  14. Money and an aging demographic. If they do the X-Files again, you can bet the show will go younger.

well 24 was consider a reboot with LAD.......so it might be the same thing

  16. From what I've heard, this isn't the first time this has come-up.

Fan of the show will want Mulder/Scully to show up

  18. Fans will want a lot of things but they will only be placated so much. You'd probably me much more likely to see the Lone Gunman.

  19. Also keep in mind that Chris Carter likes to run his mouth about The X-Files because it's the only thing he ever did that people were interested in. A lot of what he says adds up to nothing.

first 24 return......then heroes return and now possible Xfiles.......what other long time show come back........?

  21. Can we have resolution to the 2012 storyline first please?

    ReplyDelete
  22. Actually I really like the sound of that haha

    ReplyDelete
  23. For people who are young when this aired and or haven't seen the show i can see it working. I'm sure some long time fans would like it...

    Has it really been 12 years..that's depressing,lol..

  24. With a different cast, NO WAY!

    ReplyDelete
  25. It has only been six if you count the second film (I Want to Believe, 2008) but that movie was a mess I'd like to forget.

    ReplyDelete
  26. First an Evil Dead tv show and now my favorite show of all time could be returning? It better continue the events from the regular X-Files series. This is completely awesome news. :D

  27. If he could be Lincoln Lee somehow that'd be awesome.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I don't know. I could go for another story set in the same universe, but I don't think I would go for a reboot.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Agreed,the second film was terrible,but i would still love a third.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I think my casting is pretty good :p

Just the idea of the reboot is not so good.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Firstly, I'd prefer to see a remake of Harsh Realm first, one that blended the show and the comic to a nice medium. Secondly, I'm 100% down with a reboot that focused on a totally new myth arc and maybe or maybe not some new characters, but FIRST let's have god damn third movie with Scully and Mulder wrapping up the mythology of the series. It was a horrible mistake for them to assume they'd get their wrap-up movies in the first place but just give it to them and then reinvent the franchise.

I'd want it to have the same tone and sensibility as the original though or else what's the point?

    ReplyDelete
  32. I agree. I think it would be better if the new show is about a new pair of FBI Special Agents.

    ReplyDelete
  33. No, just no. Carter had no idea what the truth was for 9 years and the movies. I don't trust him to know where he's going in a reboot either. Just leave classic shows in the past and try to find an original idea. I'm sure there must be one. Originality is Out There.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Hear, hear. I still don't know what they were going for in the second movie except to milk the cow so dry only condensed milk came out.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I wouldn't worry about this. Look what happened to the Charmed and Buffy reboots. Or rather, what didn't happen.

    ReplyDelete
  36. This could be as bad as Star Wats ep. 1-3 compared to ep. 4-6. Besides, isn't it waaay too late? Fans who loved the series years ago have more important problems like mortages and kids and finding a new job and so on.

    ReplyDelete
  37. NO reboot, terrible idea. No more of there reboots, can't the networks come up with a show that's original not a remake..
This reboot will just get cancelled, the original will always be better

    ReplyDelete
  38. It's clear in the Vulture interview Chris was talking about simply bringing back The X-Files in some form with David and Gillian similarly to 24LAD. Considering how busy all the involved parties are with The Fall, Hannibal, Aquarius, and The After, it's probably a pipedream but I'd love to see The X-Files come back and conclude it's colonization arc.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Can we trade the reboot with a final one-season-event/movie to finish wrapping up the mythology ?

    ReplyDelete
  40. I'd like to know why Chris Carter thought it was a good idea to make an X-Files movie without an actual x-file in it.

    ReplyDelete
  41. I've given up being able to understand Carter's mind. Personally I think he is having a midlife crisis and trying to hold on to the glory days in a "Look at me. I'm still important," kind of way. I think the movie was basically an ego project for more than just him.

    ReplyDelete
  42. I can't disagree, mainly because I don't understand the guy at all either.

    ReplyDelete
  43. No to a reboot, yes to a sequel or a 24-type mini series. Even 6 episodes is enough, doesn't have to be 10 or 12.

    ReplyDelete
  44. I agree, why they didn't wrap up the alien invasion story in the I want to believe than a normal monster of the week plot is beyond me. They could of ended the series mythology, now we will never get it wrapped.

    ReplyDelete
  45. dont forget the apparent charmed reboot that was revealed last year, but I think the fan outcry over it has stopped that happening.

Hopefully fans pressure will work on X-Files too with a no to a reboot.

    ReplyDelete
  46. KILL THIS IDEA WITH FIRE. Some things should be left alone.

    ReplyDelete
  47. If it doesn't plant to go 6+ season I'm no interested.

    ReplyDelete
  48. I think there's plenty of good plot ideas left. A lot of the 'Monster of the week' episodes were left open-ended and could use a sequel. Plus many events that have happened since The X-Files left the air could be addressed. We also need a 3rd movie to wrap up the Mythology.
