How long will it be before we find out where Damon and Bonnie have been and presumably when they'll be back?
Julie Plec: The answer of what happened is part of the season-long mythology, but the mystery of where they are is going to be asked very quickly and answered soon enough to not be frustrating.
Can Elena really move on?
Plec: What happened to her is that in spite of losing her parents and her brother, her aunt, her friends again and again, she lost the person she singularly believed to be the man she was going to spend all of eternity with. I think there's a special form of grief that comes attached to that, which will be difficult to get past, but also the choices she makes at how to move on will be very interesting to watch.
Will she and Stefan lean on each other over their shared loss?
Plec: Well, speaking of coping mechanisms, each of them have a very specific method of how they're dealing with it and they find a strange appreciation of each other's methods even though they're not necessarily healthy. They connect over the fact that sometimes it takes extreme choices to move past something that has hurt you so deeply. So we will see their friendship able to be strong and healthy in spite of the way each of them individually are dealing with their loss.
Last season began with the start of college. Will Elena and Caroline try to resume normalcy in being a couple of college kids?
Plec: That's the goal. The problem is they didn't just lose their friends, they lost their town. They can't go home again, so college in its own way should be this haven for them where the friends can be together but not everyone wants it to be that easy and not everyone is that willing and ready to settle in and say, "OK, let's move on." So we'll be wanting to see our friends find a way back to each other and move past the trouble they brought upon themselves and get back to their home. And in the meantime, it's going to be what each of them is doing to make that happen.

TVLINE | I have to ask: Is there a chance Damon and Bonnie will like where they are? Is it almost heaven-like?
Ooh, well… I can tell you this: Where they are is part of the mystery of the beginning of the season. It’s not torturous, but it’s by no means a roller coaster ride of fun. If nothing else, it’s a bit of an existential experience. [Laughs]
TVLINE | How aware of their new surroundings will they be?
They’ll be aware that they’re no longer where they thought they were — but they’re also not dead, per se. They’ll be asking a lot of questions, along with the audience, including: What’s going on? Where the hell are we? And how do we get home?
TVLINE | There’s a crazy internet rumor out there that suggests Elena will want to reunite with Damon so badly, she’ll consider dying to join him. Is there any truth to that?
I’ll just say that I think it’d be super sad for a young woman in her vibrant, early years to take her life and die on the sword for the love of a man. As much as I am a romantic and believe in true love, I also believe in therapy and trying to pull yourself together and getting on with your life.

Always nice to see Caroline take charge! Really looking forward to see her development.
ReplyDeleteReally interested how they will pull of Damon and Bonnie's comeback, will they posses some of these new kids or will they use them as mediums?
Chirs's Wood rocked JP! ;-)
ROFL!
ReplyDeleteSo it seems that Elena really will be back at college, possibly majoring in pre-med (did we ever find out what Elena's major was?), but she'll still be dealing with her grief in questionable ways that only Stefan will understand because he's doing some unhealthy things too. The fact that Elena is going to hide how much she's still grieving and appear normal on the outset makes her situation similar to the description of the character Kai, who is one of the characters Julie Plec is looking forward to the most. Elena is supposed to make uncharacteristic yet interesting decisions in an attempt to move on from Damon. Maybe one of these choices will be a one-night stand or a short fling with someone else. That or Elena really will kill herself and end up in the same place Damon and Bonnie went, and she'll find a way to get out faster, which would quickly answer the question of where Damon and Bonnie are. Some things that Stefan and Elena do to cope with their grief will most likely be what JP was talking about when she says that characters will bring problems down on themselves. Tyler has already done things that he still hasn't had to answer for. If he triggers his werewolf gene again because of his own inner hostility and aggression, he'll only have himself to blame. No one else has done anything, at least not yet, that would make them to blame for any serious problems so far.
ReplyDeleteAs far as some characters not wanting anyone to move on with their lives in healthy ways, I have a feeling Enzo will be part of that element. Even though Caroline will want to bring everyone together as friends and go home, Enzo and his trouble-making ways will probably work against her. I can also see Elena's attempt at a normal life in college not happening because one or more new characters might make her feel like it's hopeless. An overbearing professor would chase away a student who is already emotionally fragile. It's probably a safe bet that something, whether it's a person or a choice that Elena will make, will separate Elena from the rest of the herd. Stefan will probably already be separated from the others, at least emotionally. JP mentioned in an article back in May that Stefan might jump on a motorcycle and just take off. It would be interesting if the hot-rodding character gets Stefan involved in drag racing. That was something Damon liked to do with his very fast car. Remember when Damon wrecked his own car by flipping it over just to show Stefan that Damon was the fun brother? The could be all kinds of flashback potential here.
If dying is the only way to find out where Damon and Bonnie went, and whoever dies and finds the answer comes back within one or a couple of episodes, I can see it having some potential as a season-long mythology. The way Ian Somerhalder has been talking, though, it sounds like Damon will return from wherever he is as someone or something different from who or what he was before. He might even feel resentment about being back.
I hope Bonnie stays dead, because its so laughable to think they will pull a resurrection with her twice at the beginning of a season.
ReplyDeletei'm really curious about the whereabouts of damon and bonnie and how they would pull a comeback in the world of living.Since julie cannot stop talking about kai,i will wait for his character development.Just hoping he is not the one caroline having a short fling with and survives for a couple of episodes at least!
ReplyDeletePREDICTIONS:
ReplyDeleteDamon & Bonnie are in limbo between 'Heaven' and 'Hell' with a limited window of time to escape.
[ think the Island on Lost ]
and
Elena's method of 'dealing' with the lose of Damon ( and Bonnie ) will be to try to kill herself over and over again in hopes of being able to join Damon despite not being able to die.
They're not playing the Bonnie/Damon thing at all like I thought they would. I figured they'd bring both characters back right away and the how/why/by whom would be a mystery that those two would solve. This is basically the opposite of what I was expecting.
ReplyDeletethank you so much plec for confirming damon and bonnie are alive, existential experience for damon lol
ReplyDelete1. She wasn't really resurrected the first time. She may have been corporeal but she never regained her human life.
ReplyDelete2. It says right in the interview that Bonnie and Damon won't be coming back to the living any time soon.
Well I still felt she did regain a human life, as being able to attend college and have sex for the first time not count as regaining her human life.
ReplyDeleteI see, still not impressed, since we all know they are getting resurrected by first break during Christmas at the latest.
I've stopped taking death seriously on this show. Its an absolute joke now.
