DAY 17! (Results from yesterday can be found here.)
Well, here we are. THIS. IS. IT. The two week nomination period, followed by almost three weeks of the main competition, and it's all boiled down to one poll.
The rules are as follows:
1. Two episodes go head to head for 24 hours. The episode that emerges as winner will go through to the next round.
2. Vote for your favourite episode, and tell us what you voted for.
3. Tell others about the competition.
4. Be respectful. This is a competition, but be friendly.
The episode that I tipped to win the tournament from the very beginning, The Mentalist's 'Blue Bird' faces Beauty and the Beast and its 'About Last Night'. Both have large fanbases on the site. The question is, which will triumph in the final?
The poll will close at 3PM BST on Wednesday (you may find a countdown here).
Many of you, like myself, don't have any interest in this final as all of your show's episodes have gone out. Instead, tell us what you'd have liked to see win the competition.

Breaking Bad's 'Ozymandias' is the best episode I've seen from the competition (and ever, to be fair). But since it'll win every major award in the book (Emmys etc.) I'd have liked to see Person of Interest's 'The Devil's Share' win.
ReplyDeleteI have started watching the mentalist after many friends have recommended it to me (only on S1E04) , and its actually really good so it gets my vote today.
ReplyDeleteThe episode i would have liked to of one would probably be either GOT rains of Castamere or POI the devils snare both in which i nominated.

I think it's nice that The Mentalist made it. It seems like a show that is underrated that I would like to watch one of these years and It's nice to see some fan love for something like that.

Person of Interest's - The Devil's Share, Game of Thrones - The Reins of Castamere, or Hannibal - Mizumono I think all were special episodes! I think the production quality alone on GOT is insane and continues to outdo itself and Hannibal too just really made a beautiful looking and heart breaking episode and of course I think this POI episode is a real good turning point for the series as a whole.
I am sure Breaking Bad fans would of liked their episode to have won also--another show I have to get to soon!

ReplyDeleteYou definitely need to get to Breaking Bad. It took me a while to get through the first 4 seasons (due to other committments) but I watched season 5 within about 2 days. So addictive and so brilliant.
ReplyDeleteTuff, final for BATB, mentalist is giving it a serious run, mentalist has a strong fan base as the Beasties, may the best episode win!!!
ReplyDeleteI'm sure BATB was great, but there was something really special going on in ''Blue Bird''. It could've been the series finale.. and yeah, Jane and Lisbon finally kissed after six years, so it's pretty special :)

Preferably I would've liked to have seen either episode of Arrow or GoT win.
ReplyDeleteArrow really upped it's game this season and constantly impressed me. While both episodes of GoT were really powerful TV (especially 'The Rains of Castamere').
My vote went to The Mentalist!
ReplyDeleteJudging by the amount of people who voted in the last round, I'd have to say (grudgingly) that The Mentalist has a larger fanbase than BATB. That surprises me, but I do get it, I love The Mentalist.

No matter how many times i tired i couldn't make it through season one..
ReplyDeleteSeason one isn't the greatest, I must admit. It takes until the second half of season two for it to become better. The fourth and fifth seasons are utterly sublime.

ReplyDeleteI couldn't either. I tried several episodes from S2 and this show just wasn't for me. I can't get into OITNB or Orphan Black either. I watch OB because Tatiana Maslany is amazing in it but I'm just not invested in the show.

ReplyDeleteNothing for me today but thanks Bradley for creating this contest. It has been a fun way to pass hiatus time. Personally I wish The 100's Twilight's Last Gleaming had won or Community's Geothermal Escapism because both were excellent TV. Best of luck to both fandom's competing today.

ReplyDeleteI have to agree. It is the only show I can think of that get´s better with every season. Some times it seemed like it got better with every episode.
ReplyDeleteI had a hard time getting through season 1 and the first half of 2. One scene changed it for me and got me hooked for good, but I might not be like that for others. You should try to stick with it, it is the only show that get´s better and better and ends with the most awesome episode of them all. :-)

I don't usually like shows like Breaking Bad, but I stumbled upon one of those AMC Breaking Bad marathons while I was on vacation and was hooked by the 3rd episode (let's just say I had a very sedentary vacation!). It's one of those rare series that are great from start to finish. Ozymandias would have been my pick, but since it didn't make it, I voted for The Mentalist, another terrific show.

Nah i dont watch neither.
For me, it was the scene where Jesse ignores Walt's instructions and pours hydrofluoric acid into the bathtub. That whole episode was great. Also, Walt blowing up Tuco's meeting place a few episodes later sealed the deal.

ReplyDeleteYeah. The only potential thing that could be manipulated is the draw, but I did that fairly. Polls can't be manipulated by me since the results are shown.
Pretty sure I made a comment on this article earlier but now I don't see it. Weird. I guess someone saw it and didn't agree it with and deleted it. That's not right. I'm entitled to my opinion just like everyone else is.

ReplyDeleteSo am i! These are how they should be. A couple of years ago when Best Series was running we had a great competition,last year to now that i think about it. I watch The Mentalist occasionally and since GoT is out i'm rooting for it to take the win!

ReplyDeleteThe audience of B&B is younger than of The Mentalist, therefore are the most likely to use the internet, so that's why they almost always win these contests! But Blue Bird was better, winning here or not

ReplyDeleteActually, I think the BATB audience is older, one reason they have not done very well in the ratings. It really is a pretty close contest at this point, I still think anyone can win.

The age range in BatB is actually quite varied. I love this show and am in my early 20s. I think it's just the genre. I happen to like scifi but love romance. We are a small fandom. But a lot of fans, mostly do use the internet to watch this show. Lets face it, a lot dont watch TV anymore they watch on iphone, ipad, computer. This is one of the reasons they are trying to incorporate twitter usage into ratings and one of the reasons this show was renewed.
ReplyDeleteBATB is the oldest skewing show on CW, the only one whose median age tops 50 years old, but it doesn't compare to Mentalist and Castle's median age (close to 60).
ReplyDeleteTheir fandoms are active because of the ships, but they are grandparents show (no offense though, just an observation since I like old-skewing The Good Wife too).
FOX animations and Parks and Rec are the youngest skewing shows on TV that are not from CW but their fanbases are very quiet since there are no ships, even Community fanbase is quiet except when the show's fate is on the line.
The episode that I would want to win is Beauty and Beast. I've never watch any season finale that was so beautiful and emotional like Beauty and The Beast! BATB is officially my favorite series now! All the actors and actresses were just amazing <3
