The Originals - Signs 3 book deal with Harlequin

Harlequin has signed a six-figure three-book deal with Josh Bank and Hayley Wagreich at Alloy Entertainment (NA) to pen a series of books based on the CW vampire television show The Originals. Margo Lipschultz will edit the books.

The books will consist of entirely new stories about the Original vampire characters, a family of New Orleans vampires that pledged to remain together a thousand years ago.

The books will be published under the Harlequin HQN imprint and are scheduled to hit bookstores in February 2015, April 2015 and June 2015. The timing comes along with the conclusion of the second season of the show.

I like this but they better be in line with the show, I remember the Stefan Diaries series ended up not being canon

  5. Doesn't Harlequin usually publish romance novels? I might be interested in these stories. I'm glad that they're new stories, and not something that will add fuel to the fire where shipping is concerned. I consider all of the characters likable for some reason or another, but I can't get into the whole Hayley and Elijah thing. I'm glad that the relationship got started before Season 1 ended and is moving along now. Considering the fast pace of the series, Hayley and Elijah (hopefully) will be just about over and done with by the end of Season 2.

Haylijah can be compared to Delena on The Vampire Diaries. A lot of people like it and make excuses to promote those pairs continuing, but the relationships are hard for me to watch because of what I know about both characters. Another reason the relationship can be compared to Delena is that spoilers indicate Hayley and Elijah finally learning about each other's personalities in Season 2, and Elijah trying to bring Hayley out of a dark place while Hayley pushes him away. Cast and crew admitted that Elijah only thought of Hayley as a mother figure for his niece in Season 1 and didn't get to know her as an individual, but they're each going to see what the other is really like in Season 2. There have also been rumblings that Hayley is going to be forced to examine feelings she has for Klaus. Ironically, in spite of how eager I am to see Hayley and Elijah end, I'm actually intrigued by the fact that it's comparable to Delena. Elijah and Elena being so much alike is one reason why I sometimes wish that Elijah didn't have to be on a spin-off. Crossovers are out of the question because Daniel Gillies is already a regular on two shows at once, and he said that he would leave The Originals if it took away too much from the little time he already has with his daughter.

As far as the high probability of the books being romances, I think they'll probably center around Rebekah. A lot of fans complain about Rebekah no longer being on the show, but it can be inferred that Claire Holt might want to do other things, only occasionally playing Rebekah. The story of Rebekah being off with the baby is a good way to explain Claire Holt's departure and absence from the show while still letting Rebekah have a story. The book series might give fans more of Rebekah so that her character won't be missed as much. I think that if Rebekah comes back on the show permanently and rejoins the Mikaelson family, it will undo her character development. She's gone because she wants to move on with her life and start a new family. The fact that she came back so that Klaus could give her the baby was very endearing, even though as far as I know that only happened because Claire Holt agreed at the last minute to come back for the season finale. I still believe that Klaus gave Rebekah the baby because either he doesn't want to be a father or he isn't ready to be one. It was said from the start that Klaus would never be seen changing diapers because he would rather run New Orleans, and he could give or take an heir. If his feelings for the baby have changed, then he feels about the baby the same way he feels about Cami. As much as he wants them around, they're better off far away from him.

I can't remember it's been forever since I've read them. I believe they were written in between S1 and S2.

the first book in the stefan's diaries series, maybe the second too, was written using info presented in the show's first & second season. then the books went their own way and nothing was really the same

The Harlequin HQN imprint is indeed the romance heavy/focused imprint.

  13. I wonder if they're doing this because there's about to be a lack of romance on the show in favor of more action and character drama. The EPs seem reluctant to put Klaus in an actual relationship because he's not supposed to be capable of a long-term romance right now, but seeing him sleep with women he doesn't like or only want women who don't like him will get boring after a while in TV format. Romance novels, however, can make anything work as long as there's enough sex involved. A short book series giving that "release," as Julie Plec calls it, would keep fans busy if the writers are planning to have one or more characters go without a serious relationship for a season or two. If this book series works out really well, there will probably be more books centered around a different character or characters but still about the Original family.

  14. So instead of filming what the fans want to see and saddling us with useless characters like Hayley and Cami, as well as pathetic nauseating storylines such as Nope, they are going to instead pen the stories that they should in fact be filming. Rolls eyes. Great job guys, maybe they think this will redeem the complete travesty JP and her team made of season 1 and hope that by throwing the fans a bone, that they will come back to the show for season 2. Shakes head. Not bloody likely. And the only saving grace these books might have are if JP and her team have absolutely no input. Particularly JP herself and CM.
