The Leftovers - Two Boats and a Helicopter - Advance Preview
13 Jul 2014
GN Reviews The LeftoversThe leftovers episode 3, Two Boats and a Helicopter, will air this Sunday night and focuses mainly on the plight of Reverend Matt Jamison. I just finished re-watching it and it is the best episode yet of the series. The episode is filled with symbolism with religious themes scattered throughout. There are a few dream sequences which the writers have perfected so far this season. Pay close attention and you will have a better understanding of the episode and the series as a whole.
The best way I could explain this episode is a roller coaster ride with one hill. The first half of the episode is the climbing up that hill coupled with the anticipation of what is coming...tick, tick, tick. This is not to say that it is boring or unimportant but rather the opposite. It is filled with the bleakness and dreariness we have come to expect from The Leftovers.
Then the last half of the episode is the fall. The rush that comes with it and you can almost feel it too. Several times throughout the episode my heartbeat sped up. A few times I caught myself saying "No", out loud. It was definitely thrilling and by the episodes end you will should have a better understanding of why the it titled, Two Boats and a Helicopter.
In my Review after the episode airs I will explain what the title means and how it plays into the episode and the series as a whole. I wrote before that I hope the fans that are on the fence about this show will begin to enjoy it and accept it and I believe this is the episode that will do just that. This is an episode of The Leftovers you do not want to miss.
Items to Notice
- Pigeons...pay special attention to them and notice when they all appear
- The number 3...3 plays an important role in this episode
- Guilty Remnant...The Guilty Remnant is more present in this episode and are important to the plot
Enjoy the Episode Everyone! I'll post my Review after the episode airs and we can comment and discuss the episode together. I'm sure there will be a lot of things that fans will want to say about it. If you are not a fan and you watch this episode you will become a fan. Have a great weekend everyone!
It definitely is. Maybe a little artsy for some people with all the symbolism, but a great episode overall. Reminds me of a few Twin Peaks episodes.
