The Leftovers - Gladys - Advanced Preview

I am a big fan of TV and I follow a lot of series. I watch all kinds, from comedies to horror and drama to Sci-Fi, as well as historical period shows within each of those genres. I don't mind watching anything violent, bloody or violently bloody. I think the special effects that go into making The Walking Dead so special is incredible, to say the least, and love seeing the different ways the crew imagines a walker getting killed. That fight scene at the end of the Game of Thrones episode, "The Mountain and The Viper", was phenomenal in all its gory and blood soaked splendor. I know it's not real, but it's amazing watch and see the creativity the minds behind the camera come up with.

You're probably asking yourselves, "What does this have to do with tonight's episode of The Leftovers, George?". Well, relax, I'm getting to that. I mentioned all that because, in my opinion, tonight's episode of The Leftovers has a violently bloody scene, that actually made me turn my head from the screen while cringing at the thought of what I had seen. It is done in such a way, however, that does not diminish the quality of the script; It is a fantastic episode of The Leftovers. The scene (you will definitely know it when you see it) is not a zombie or a sword-fight, but it is just as extraordinary. It is shot very well and I can't wait to read all of your comments after the episode.

I am loving this show more and more each week. Not because of this one scene, but because when you look at this series as a whole it truly is something special. It is greater than the sum of its parts. Maybe that is what people don't get about this show? Instead of looking at it as 'this episode' or 'that episode', look at it as the whole of the series. To be honest, I don't think any episode has followed a similar format, story-telling wise, as any previous. Some are about one character, while others contain almost the entire cast. Some have large, profound, biblical mysteries attached to a characters plight.

Tonights episode, "Gladys", gives us some more mystery inside Mapleton to chew on. We learn a little more about what Kevin is going through with Jill. We mostly learn a little more about the Guilty Remnant and their motives. I have a theory that the creators are setting the GR up as the big bad for the first season; I could be wrong though. The Rev has a few great lines and I'm still waiting for his reaction after losing his church to the GR. Last week saw an uptick in the ratings, which is great, and I hope that the trend continues because I would love to see a second season.

Things to Notice

- Biblical references

- Is there something more supernatural going on or being hinted at? Other than the SD, of course.

- I think it is a combination of excellent writing and amazing acting that makes me think Kevin is going crazy --- Whenever he talks to someone, in person and especially on the phone, I get a sense that there is no one on the other line or the person in front of him is a figment of his imagination. Does anyone else notice this, or am I going crazy, lol?

- Anything the Guilty Remnant does

- The scene I mentioned

I hope everyone enjoys the episode tonight! I look forward to reading everyone's comments after the episode.
