The Leftovers - B.J. and the A.C. - Advance Preview

Last Sunday's episode of The Leftovers focused primarily on the Reverend and his backstory. It is my favorite episode to date and The Leftovers is quickly becoming one of my favorite shows on TV right now. The show is getting better each and every week. I hope that fans don't dismiss it too quickly and give it some time to explore this strange new world and this chaotic little town.

This weeks episode is a little quieter than last weeks, but definitely had some intense moments in the last half that I've noticed is a running theme with The Leftovers. As always, there is quite a bit of symbolism throughout, leaving the audience to interpret certain scenes for themselves. I am still struggling with the meaning of the episode title and probably need another re-watch to understand, but the great thing about The Leftovers is I don't mind watching it over and over again.

We are almost at the halfway point of the first season and it appears that the writers are creating somewhat of a villain for us to focus our hatred towards. We saw some of the good that reverend can do, all for his beloved congregation. All that he worked to accomplish was shattered when he learned of the Guilty Remnant taking his last bit of salvation, his church. It appears the Guilty Remnant are meant to be the bad guys and it is understandable. I think anyone would be über upset at the cult that sends a pair of people to watch over your every step, simultaneously blowing cigarette smoke in you path.

Episode four, B.J. and the A.C., delves deeper into the lives of Mapleton's citizenry, focusing on the collective rather than just one individual like last week. It is also the holiday season, which adds a festive mood to the whole episode, alleviating some of the usual bleakness surrounding the characters and town. I think fans will enjoy this week's chapter of The Leftovers as we get a look into more of Chief Kevin Garvey's life at home and what he is going through with his family life and job. The first two episodes showed him losing his grip with different facets of his life and this week you will see him struggle as he pulled in all directions. Clear lines are beginning to be drawn in the town of Mapleton and the next few episodes should reveal which side everyone is on.

What to Notice

- Jill's behavior is something to watch for not only in this episode, but in future ones as well.

- Will Kevin see a silver-lining in anything? He seems so angry all the time.

- How will the Reverend react to events from the last episode?

Have a great weekend everyone! Enjoy the fourth episode of The Leftovers, B.J. and the A.C.! And pay attention to see if you can decipher what the title means because I might not be able to, :)
