TVLINE | Dean as a demon, how is that different from Dean just being possessed by a demon temporarily? What is he like?

Dean is not possessed by anything. It’s his own soul that’s been twisted into a demon soul, so this demon is not anyone other than Dean. So every thought, every action, that’s Dean, as opposed to some other demon possessing him. So while he’s a demon, that causes some complication of thought in him in that, “This is really me doing it.” It also motivates a certain bravado. “Yeah, this is me doing and owning it!” There’s a real period for Dean of deciding how dark he’s going to be and what kind of demon he’s going to be, because he can’t blame it on anyone else but himself. And then afterwards is when it will have the most effect on him because it was him. It was his actions that led him to becoming a demon. He pushed it with the Mark. He pushed Sammy away at the end of last season. He said, “I can do this by myself.” So there’s a certain consequence to all this that is almost more interesting to us than the actual demon part.

TVLINE | What does that mean for his relationship with Sam?

Their relationship very much ended on an up note last year. So as a sort of answer to the beginning of Season 8, when Sam actively didn’t look for his brother, Sam this year is really looking for his brother but doesn’t have any idea of what happened to him when the season starts. Sam is so invested in finding his brother that it leads him to do some questionable things that will make him and, certainly, the audience wonder which one of these guys is the true monster.

  1. All of these spoilers are making me really excited for season ten. Can't wait for it!

  2. I'm really excited for Demon Dean. I haven't been this excited about a Supernatural storyline since Purgatory (which was wasted). But it doesn't seem like this storyline will be fixed after a few episodes. I'm far less excited about Cas' storyline though. Hopefully heaven won't be dragged back into things yet again.

Can't wait, sooo excited! These little previews are making it very interesting.

  4. Oh snap! Sam? What the hell are they gonna make him do? Maybe the Boy King rises once again.

    ReplyDelete
  5. Probably have him do what they are not prepared to do with Demon Dean .

    ReplyDelete
  6. More recycled Sam ideas. Why am I not surprised?

    ReplyDelete
  7. sound crazy insane, i wonder what sam is going to do and how dean is going to be different as a demon, and i hope castiel finds a way to survive

    ReplyDelete
  8. Yep! Dean is the demon with a heart of gold. Sam is the evil bad brother that must be saved or killed. Sam won't save Dean. Dean will save Sam from himself. Again. Wow all my interest in this season just went out the window.

    ReplyDelete
  9. The Sam part sounds interesting, having to do questionable things and take questionable paths to save Dean is what I would expect given how they are supposed to do whatever it takes to save each other, no matter who gets caught in the crossfire or what the consequences of their actions are. That was the lesson Sam was taught at the end of season 9 that he would do anything to save his brother so now he's going to take a leaf out of Dean's book and do it.

Question is will either of them be able to handle the bad stuff they've done after all is said and done? There may be no coming back from this.

I'm looking forward to Sam doing his own thing (that ties back to the main story line) maybe helping out Cas, meeting new people along the way and being away from Dean for as long as possible next season.

Also the new character thats also looking for Dean, I hope is someone/thing that Sam encounters through the season. It would be interesting to see Sam get an interesting character to play off, someone who wants to find his brother probably because they have plans for him or his new found power.

I look forward to seeing what they give Jared to work with, he plays Dark Sam so well.

    ReplyDelete
  10. And I thought that I was being pessimistic haha. You read far too much into that.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Better they have Sam be the really dark one as at least we know Jared will have something to do? Theres also a huge possibility that Sam will be interacting with a whole new set of characters this season and will actually spend time away from Dean on his part of the story line.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Demon Sam vs Demon Dean would be AMAZING! Sam turned into a demon without having to go to Hell when he was killing Lilith, and Dean became a demon without going to Hell…to see those two go at it in a more of a hell theme rather than angelic would be quite interesting.

But, as always, people will complain, lol.

  13. Ha! You're right, Chris. I don't know what I was thinking. :)

  15. "Sam is so invested in finding his brother that it leads him to do some questionable things that will make him and, certainly, the audience wonder which one of these guys is the true monster."

Because we can't have a new season without a healthy amount of new fuel for fan fingerpointing.

    ReplyDelete
  16. And because multiple seasons of questioning Sam's character wasn't enough the writers plan to do it all over again.

    ReplyDelete
  17. I have to give you credit, Percysowner. You totally called this. I have to admit, I didn't think they'd go so far as to actually spell out in advance out how Dean, though a demon, will get the sympathetic point of view, while Sam will be made to look like a monster. Silver lining - at least they're being upfront about it this year?

    ReplyDelete
  18. Sam fans might want to read Jared's interview floating around on the net, I did send the link to the peeps here but it hasnt been posted. Anyway its more informative of Sam's part in season 10 without giving too much away. But it is certainly promising.

Sounds to me like we've getting Badass Hunter Sam, trying to save Dean, hunting Crowley, meeting new people. Jared mentioned flashbacks of what Sam and Dean were up to while apart, Sam flashbacks in episode 3.

    ReplyDelete
  19. seriously let them fingerpoint as long as Sam has his own storyline I dont care, people who dont like Sam are always going to not like him regardless of what he does. I really hope that Carver gives us plenty of reason to fingerpoint at Dean this season too.

    ReplyDelete
  20. I hope we get a Demon!Dean vs dark!Sam fight scene before things get back to "normal". A physical fight.

    ReplyDelete
  21. "So as a sort of answer to the beginning of Season 8, when Sam actively didn't look for his brother, Sam this year is really looking for his brother..."

Ha! Carver himself knows what crap he forced us to bear in S8, he's struggling really hard to clean his mess. By making Sam trying to resurrect Dean and by trying to make a deal with a demon no less in the finale, and here making him doing questionable things, he's trying to clean Sam's (read his own) record and turn him to the loving brother we expect. He's saying w/o actually saying that "I screwed up! Let me amend!" lol
No surprise Jared is so happy Sam is back to his old self. I don't think there's much deep in Sam going dark or such. It's just a way to show how invested Sam is in bringing back his brother, and he's prepared to do anything for it, in opposed to S8 and S9.

I'm excited how S10 will turn out :)

    ReplyDelete
  22. Maybe he'll try to hide whatever Dean does from other hunters...

    ReplyDelete
  23. "It was his actions that led him to becoming a demon. He pushed it with
the Mark. He pushed Sammy away at the end of last season. He said, “I
can do this by myself.” So there’s a certain consequence to all this
that is almost more interesting to us than the actual demon part."

    --

Oh great. So now if Sam has to do something "dark" to save Dean, then Carver has already set it up to blame Dean for anything "bad" Sam is being forced to do -- all because Dean pushed "Sammy" (LOL, we know where Carver's sympathies lie, huh?) away and didn't think of the consequences (no mention that Sam did his fair share of pushing Dean away too... no of course not).

So, not only will Dean be to blame for anything HE does as a demon, but Carver is saying outright that Dean should also be blamed for questionable thing SAM might do as well.

    Great. *sigh*

    ReplyDelete
  24. Read it - excellent interview!

    ReplyDelete
  25. And he's going to do it by making Sam more of a monster than Dean. Heck Dean should NEVER have been concerned about becoming a demon in season three, because Dean will always be pure and Sam will always be the monster.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Considering you are already blaming SAM for everything, I don't think that is an issue. Dean never has to deal with the consequences of his actions. Dean tortures people into becoming demons in Hell, we never meet them. Dean kills a mother IN FRONT OF HER CHILD, we never see that child again. Dean tricks Sam into being possessed, Sam become silent and Dean emos himself into taking the MOC before Sam says two words to him (NOTE: Dean took the MOC BEFORE The Purge or Sharp Teeth, not after).

    ReplyDelete
  27. I'll be more excited during CC. for now i'm just, w/e.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Well, if Sam still has his powers and he tries to use them on Dean, that would really piss Dean off.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I don't think it's about who's more human/evil, I think, and I hope, they're trying to draw the scene as "They keep each other human". Both of them are pron to do questionable things when faced with losing the other. I assume Sam will be sth like The End!Dean.

Here I really can't get what's going on in Carver's mind, isn't it the co-dependency he wanted to make the bros grew from it?! Personally I like how they always were willing to go to the extreme to save each other. Also the normal life was never an issue since S1. The brothers were content to be with each other and hunt. Carver ruined it and now he's repairing it! WTH?!

    ReplyDelete
  30. You said it! I don't trust Carver w/Sam. He's screwed over Sam, IMO, for the past two years. I don't want to see it again next year.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Yeah . . . at least we know in advance that Sam is getting screwed! Haha!

    ReplyDelete
  32. Personally I like how they always were willing to go to the extreme to save each other

I've always liked this aspect of the show and the brothers' relationship too . . . . but I just don't trust what Carver will have Sam do. I don't trust Sam w/Carver. The past two seasons have shown me that Carver doesn't understand Sam Winchester at all. Any insight he had in the past must have come from Kripke.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I wouldn't say they'd never go there. I think Carver would more than Gamble would have any day, especially the little hints of Sam's demon blood since S8.

    ReplyDelete
  34. i agree with jared

    he says no to relationship
    like sam and emilia

    or dean and lisa
love stuff don't work in spn
we all want our team free will to kick ass

    ReplyDelete
  35. sam is going to drink demon blood again?
i mean he was purified , will it work?

is this what we're gonna see?

    ReplyDelete
  36. which makes me think that demon dean will be cured by then
    or still dancing?LOL

    ReplyDelete
  37. Jared kinda spoiled the plot for the 200th episode, so it's doubtful the brothers will be singing or dancing.

    ReplyDelete
  38. At one of the comic cons Jansen said he would probably be possesedand i said hello no Lucifer just twisted Deans soul!!!

    ReplyDelete
  39. What do you think if Lucifer came back in season 10 in Sams body its said Lucifer is the creator of all demos and father!

    ReplyDelete
  40. thetrenchcoatofcastiel22 July 2014 at 04:44

The Dean and Sam parts sound very exciting, I'm eager to see Dean having a mytharc of his own while Sam gets the emotional arc for a change (not that Sam didn't get one before, it's just that his arcs were largely about what was wrong with him and how Dean dealt with it. Now, the roles have reversed). The only thing I'm worried about is hearing that Cas doesn't want to burden Sam with his problems, because the last time that happened was season 6, when he refused to tell Dean about the civil war because he wanted Dean to be happy, and we all know how well that turned out. I really hope they don't go the route of Cas doing bad things with good intentions again, it's getting very boring.

    ReplyDelete
  41. LOL!! That would be sooo messed up. i'd be very upset if he were to be cured by episode 5. then again it's like C'MON!! we get a musical episode on THE 200TH EPISODE and Dean won't be apart of it?? What kina crap is that??? They're not gonna make him some dancing demon. Ugh.

    ReplyDelete
  42. It was Dean's fault though he became a demon though the trying to put it on Sam by pushing Dean away is not true , Dean took on the MOC before Sam had said a word and before the Purge . But as for blame EDG,s and the fandom have never been backweard in coming forward to blame Sam for Dean's decisions and actions what will change in season 10? esp as in being a 'demon' Dean will only act exactly that way .

    ReplyDelete
  43. I agree with the non romantic relationship stance but that doesnt mean Sam cant have friends or regular hook ups, heck even just someone other than Dean/Jensen to work off.

    ReplyDelete
  44. I dont see that happening, but it would be amazing to watch

    ReplyDelete
  45. at this point I dont see the point in getting upset about it, Sam going down a dark path seems like a better storyline than Demon Dean because after all it is Dean we're talking about how bad are they really going to make him look? And no matter how it may seem Dean is not pure and hasnt been for a long time, he may come up smelling like roses more often than not but for me the whole becoming a demon thing was punishment for years of arrogance, self righteousness and not paying for his choices. I have to say I am not looking forward to emo/guilty demon Dean. I do find it interesting that Dean may never get back to how he was though, that seems like a bold choice for Carver.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Dean is to blame for what happened to Dean and no Carver isnt saying Dean is to blame for whatever Sam does to save Dean though Sam has often been blamed for anything Dean does to save Sam. All is fair in love and war.

    ReplyDelete
  47. they may just break out of the season long arcs for one episode, though it certainly sounds like Sam and Dean are back together after a few episodes apart. We're supposed to learn more about their time apart through flashbacks so they dont spend a lot of time separated which is a shame because I like the idea of Sam without Dean. My guess is they'll be working together by episode 4 (which is aparently a big one for the brothers relationship) as Dean will have come to the conclusion that he doesnt want to be a bad demon anymore and that the only way he can not do more bad things is with Sam there to stop him (que emo demonDean) and they will work together to find a cure, though I expect them to try the trial cure quite early on only to have it not work because of the MOC problem.

    ReplyDelete
  48. I would love if Sam's new dark path is something to do with the dark arts/witchcraft. That would be an excellent way for them to work him into the mytharc and have him interact with the new Crowley related character Rowena?

  50. yes

    i agree with you

jard was saying that love relationships don't work on spn like dean and lisa or sam and amelia
but one night fling and hook ups

    yes it will work
and well they'll be dead very fast
you know the winchester penis curse LOL

    ReplyDelete
  51. jared said in his interview that there will be flash backs
and episode 3 has flash backs of sam

    ReplyDelete
  52. super exited for this

    ReplyDelete
  53. No Lucifer. Sam and Dean just became puppets when the arch angels were around. Above all else Sam should be Sam and Dean should be Dean, and Sam and Dean should be driving the story.

    ReplyDelete
  54. That's what I hope we get to see. Not to put blame on Sam, but to silence all those doubts about Sam not looking due to a (badly written) breakdown.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Agreed. But there is so much blind Sam hate in this fandom, no matter what the younger Winchester brothers does some will always hate him.

    ReplyDelete
  56. I mostly agree with what you said about it not mattering what other people think. What matters more to me is not what a bunch of people who will never like Sam think. What matters is that I like him and am invested in his story. Same is true with the other characters. With that said though, the anti-Sam comments started to bleed into this website a lot in season 8 (something I'm not used to on this site, which tends to be friendlier and more respectful to all characters than a lot of sites out there), and it got to be tiring.

I'm not looking for or hoping for reasons to dislike Dean. The show is so much more enjoyable when both characters are likeable. I think there's plenty of fault already out there, but the fandom (both sides) has an enormous talent for spinning the story and whitewashing any poor decisions (*looking at Amy*). This gets much worse when the writers drop the ball in giving equal weight to Sam's character development and point of view.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Realistically, I think they've moved past that, and I'm not sure that's a bad thing. I'm on the fence on that one. What I know I want though is for Sam's past to be remembered and to factor into his storyline and his character development.

    ReplyDelete
  58. I'm not quite if they moved from that at all. In "The Great Escapist", they really seemed to be mentioning Sam's past a lost, and then moreso in "Sacrifice" and into season nine. I would not be surprised if we do get some kind of "endgame" with Sam becoming a demon, even if this isn't the last season.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Why do find it necessary to imply I said something that I clearly never said? I never blamed Sam for "everything" did I? No. I said Sam *also* pushed Dean away. They *both* are to blame for pushing each other away. Not only Dean, which is what Carver stated.

And who cares that we never see Amy's son again? It has been mentioned on the show a number of times since then. Sam brought it up as an argument against Dean's relationship with Benny. When was the last time we heard about the nurse that Sam was involved in killing? Not a single word. Did we meet the family or any loved ones of this nurse? Nope. Dropped altogether.

Yes, Dean is responsible for his own actions regarding the Mark of Cain. Absolutely. I never said or even implied he wasn't. And again, I never blamed Sam for Dean's actions in that regard.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Never? Well just as a recent example, he took *full* blame for Kevin's death. "It's all my fault."

    ReplyDelete
  61. What? I never said that it was Sam's fault that Dean took on the MoC. NEVER. That's all on Dean. 100%.

My issue is with Carver and his implication that Sam may do dark things *only* because Dean pushed him away. That's my issue.

    ReplyDelete
  62. really? I did not see it or hear him take much blame for that maybe he did but then its forgetting and he did not say Everytime I sleep I see my hands killing Kevin Who said that in the Season F. Anyone? Oh wait it was Sam was it so I really did not see much blame on Dean side there.

    ReplyDelete
  63. You may want to rewatch Captives then, Dean apologized to Kevin and said straight up that Kevin's death was *his* fault. Dean never, not once, blamed Sam for Kevin's death.

    ReplyDelete
  64. "Sam is so invested in finding his brother that it leads him to do some
questionable things that will make him and, certainly, the audience
wonder which one of these guys is the true monster."

That's different than any other season ... how?

    ReplyDelete
  65. YEP. True story, bro.

    ReplyDelete
  66. A dark path is better than NO PATH, I guess ...

    ReplyDelete
  67. And it'd be interesting, too. And Carver doesn't do interesting.

    ReplyDelete
  68. That's what really gets me about this show the past few seasons. How isolated Sam is. It's no wonder he's going bonkers every year and causing the end of the world somehow. He's got no one to unload on, who isn't Dean. And it's so blatant lately. Like that awkward moment at the end of the terrible Krissy ep, when Sam gets this uncomfortable look on his face then excuses himself so Dean and Krissy can have their "moment". Jesus, that was the craziest thing EVER. And he doesn't even get to keep the people he had earlier, not even MEG. Remember when Meg was obsessed with Sam? It was fairly clear she felt something akin to love for him. She comes back in S5 and is snogging Dean then boinking Castiel. Doesn't even glance in Sam's direction anymore. I can't even say how much I hated Meg from S5 on, it wasn't even the same character, as far as I'm concerned. It was some other demon pretending to be her.

    ReplyDelete
  69. That sounds disappointing. = / sigh.

    ReplyDelete
  70. Well at lest something is happening with Dean it was always about Sam, Sam the Special child. Sam the demon blood Sam and Lucifer Sam and the trials its always something at lest let Dean get some of the spotlight!!
