Zap2it: During the "Supernatural" panel earlier, you made a comment about how Demon Dean is not going to be quite what we expect him to be. Can you elaborate on that a little more?
Jeremy Carver: This is the first time that we're going to see Dean as a demon. It's not a demon possessing Dean, it's still Dean's soul, but just twisted. In that way, every decision made is Dean's. So as dark or as evil or whatnot that Demon Dean might be or what you might expect him to be, there's still Dean there. There's a self-awareness. Let me put it this way: Dean is not unaware of the thing that he's become.
Where will we pick up when Season 10 premieres? Is there going to be a time jump or will it begin immediately after the Season 9 finale ended?
There will be a slight time jump of about four to six months. It's enough for Dean to start to settle into being demon. It's enough for Sam to cause some real problems in his search for Dean. By problems, I mean that he's hellbent on finding his brother, and he doesn't know what his brother has become. He will go to such great depths to find his brother that when they finally do cross paths, it's going to be a real question of which brother is the true monster?
So we aren't going to miss the moment that Sam finds out that Dean is a demon? That won't happen in the months we're going to skip?
You are not going to miss that moment. That did not happen offscreen, while we were on hiatus. I promise, you will be there when that happens. [laughs]
Good to hear! What can you tell me about this mysterious other character that is also on the hunt for Dean in addition to Sam hunting his brother?
Well, I can tell you that he's kind of cool and his name is Cole. He is someone from Dean's past who is looking for Dean for reasons totally unrelated to what's going on with the demon/Mark of Cain story. He's a guy that has a terrific amount of hunting skills but he's not a hunter in our sense of the word. He has no idea that the monster world exists so imagine his surprise when he comes across the man he's been hunting and he is something other than human. He's a pretty cool character.
Have you cast that character yet?
Yes, but we're not announcing it yet.

I'm surprised. I thought that the other person looking for Dean would be one of the women we heard about earlier.
ReplyDeleteI was fully expecting an angel or something. This sounds like something completely new an potentially interested. Very cryptic with details but I'm fine with that.
ReplyDeleteSeason 9 was a hot mess. All over the map in writing and quality but I would be lying if I said I wasn't at least intrigued by the recent spoilers. This season is sounding more interesting then the previous two seasons and I'm really hoping for an all around better season this time.
ReplyDeleteOhh another brother for Dean
ReplyDeletemeanwhile
Sam the lone wolf who isnt aloowed friends
I am keeping an open mind, but with Carver at the helm nothing will surprise me. Season 8 was awful, 9 a little better and hoping Demon Dean is much better.
ReplyDeleteCole will be played by Nathaniel ( David Lassiter - SPN:B / Kol Mikaelson - TVD ) Buzolic.
ReplyDelete[ I know I KNOW he was just in the failed spin-off but I still think it might be him ]
So regular status means personal storyline. If Cas' separate storyline of angels and finding self wasn't enough last season, expect another one for Crowley this season too.
ReplyDeleteI really don't like it, this is one show not 3 mini-shows glued to each other. I really love Cas, Crowley is fun, but I know I was lost in jumps last season and I couldn't force myself to watch Crowley's family drama in 'King of the Damned' even once!
I wonder who has been cast as Cole. I hope it's someone we know (like the new cast members on Arrow and The Flash).
ReplyDeleteMy vote goes to Tom Welling or Zachary Levi. However I'm sure it's probably not. Hell I'd even be fine with Matt Lanter.
"This isn't the first time that we're going to see shit on the show canon. It's not our canon, it's still Kipke's canon, but just twisted. In
ReplyDeletethat way, every decision made is ours. So as illogical or as stupid or
whatnot Kripke's canon may be or what you might know it to be,
there's still canon there. There's a self-awareness. Let me put it this
way: We are not unaware of the canon that we're raping."
Just don't let Cole be Dean's son or something. I don't want this to take the same route as Angel did where you get sudden relatives and sons thrown into the mix with daddy issues.
ReplyDeleteWonder if they're gonna turn Cole into a new supernatural hunter recurring character.
ReplyDeleteOn everyone having their own story, please at least don't make them be as boring as Crowley's family or the parade of whiny angels we saw last year. And let these stories support the mytharc rather than having a handful of one-off stories with no purpose other than to kill time.
I don't even want to think about it to be honest. Besides, Dean already had a "son". I don't like it when they bring in new characters that are very young, not because they're bad actors or anything, but because most of them are so badly written. Teenage Ben - whiny little brat, Krissy - annoying, and the cast of Bloodlines - just boring people who act like teenagers despite their age. Oh and that awful teen horror flick Bitten (Michael, Katie??) I don't even WANT TO remember their names...
ReplyDelete"It's enough for Sam to cause some real problems in his search for Dean." Color me intrigued...
ReplyDeleteThat Dar angel? Yah, me too actually. Unless Dar is part of Castiel's storyline, which could be the case now.
ReplyDeleteIf they've cast Cole and he hasn't been announced yet, I would love for him to be played by Christian Kane, someone who has wanted to work on Supernatural for a while.
No way! You already watched season 10?!?!?!?!?!
ReplyDeleteHah, it's going to be Cassie's son! Lol.
ReplyDeletewell, I'm confused... Sam knew Dean was dead and apparently doesn't yet know Dean is a demon. So, what is Sam searching for in his mind? A dead body...?
ReplyDeleteI'm surprised we didn't get any hint of this Cole character before now. Color me intrigued though.
ReplyDeleteI am surprised that Sam doesn't know that Dean is a demon. I mean, Dean was dead and his body just mysteriously disappears. Did he think that Crowley or Cas just took Deans body and didn't tell him? And in their line of work, would Dean being a demon that far fetched of a possibility given that Dean was dead?
ReplyDeleteWas Dar revealed as an angel? I was figuring she was connected to Rowena, because the name has roots Gaelic, but at the same it is also Hebrew. So it could be either or.
ReplyDeleteI could be mistaken, but I had sworn I read that Dar would be an angel.
ReplyDeleteI'm really looking forward to Season 10 now despite the damper that the fandom wars have put on my excitement.
ReplyDeleteOk, Dean and Crowley are going to go howl at the moon. Castiel and Dean have a profound bond. And now we have Cole looking for Dean... a character from his past. Again we are going to have Dean with the central myth arc, the primary POC, and multiple characters in multiple episodes that are primarily concerned with Dean... Season 4 all over again... Sure looks like Sam will have most of his time spent off screen again. I wonder if Sam will get another Ruby so he can talk to someone sometimes or even worse an Amelia so the screen time he does get can be absolutely useless.
ReplyDeleteThey referred to him as a "guy" and not a kid or young man or anything ... so it's probably someone from that surprise past they brought up in that one ep.
ReplyDeleteCliff, you are by far one of my favorite commenters here lately. You make me literally LOL.
ReplyDeleteOh, Bloodlines tanked then?
ReplyDeleteShe watched the last 9 seasons.
ReplyDeleteHeh, thanks, but it's sad that the show has become such an easy target. I mean, I can't remember one show like this that saw their own Twitter Q&A day turned into a bombardement of sarcasm by the fans ^^
ReplyDeleteYes. They did a back door pilot ( as a episode of Supernatural ) for Bloodlines and when it came time to pick the new programs for next season the CW passed on it.
ReplyDeleteI have to say my first reaction was Oh Joy, Dean gets yet ANOTHER person to talk to while Sam still has no one /sarcasm.
ReplyDeleteSo did I, and I only saw one season where Dean has a "brother" who wasn't Sam.
ReplyDeleteCas and Benny. Plus Dean was trying to turn the siren into a brother in season 4.
ReplyDeleteI believe the "brother" reference is to the characters like Castiel and Benny... Multi-episode characters that primarily work with Dean. Not to mention Garth and Charlie, characters that are supposed to be involved with both brothers, but just "happen" to hardly ever talk directly to Sam.
ReplyDeleteAnd Bobby too. Bobby got the "father" title rather than "brother," but he mostly bonded with Dean and admitted Dean was his favorite.
ReplyDeleteI already mentioned Benny, but I never viewed Cas as a "brother" he was always a protector until Dean's line of him being "family" like Bobby in season six.
ReplyDeleteAlso…can we really bring up a one-episode baddie as someone who was Dean's brother? Lol.
Well, Dean viewed Cas as a brother. I think Cas went from being distant angel to friend and family in season 5 even though Dean might not have said the word until season 6. I just mentioned the siren because it goes to Dean's state of mind - he's always on the lookout for new brothers.
ReplyDeleteI don't he's on the look out for new brothers. He's on the look for comrade when he's not getting it back, as we see in seasons four, five and eight.
ReplyDeleteI would definitely put Bobby in that category too. In the Supernatural 'verse, Bobby May be fairly unbiased between the brothers, even though he admitted Dean was his favorite, but the writers sure have a preference when it came to one on one heart to hearts with Bobby. I also remembered Frank, Chrissy (the kid hunter), Henricksen, Bela, Zachariah, Death (one good scene with Sam), The Reaper (can't remember her name right now), etc. Jo was another one all obsessed with Dean, but Sam at least had one episode where he had a couple of "killer" scenes with Jo. I also have to add in here all of the Campbell's. Because Sam was soulless, he kind of sat aside and let Dean handle everything except for the flashbacks in that episode with the spider guy.
ReplyDeleteSam had psychic kids, Ruby, Lucifer, Mystery Spot with the Trickster, first Meg. He also currently works more with Jodie than Dean does.
