BEHEADS GAME OF THRONES IN SOCIAL ACTIVITY
NEW YORK – July 31, 2014 – Lions and tigers and sharks, oh my! Syfy’s pop culture sensation Sharknado 2: The Second One absolutely devoured the world during last night’s July 30 premiere, becoming the channel’s most watched Original Movie ever with 3.9 million total viewers and 1.6 million Adults 18-49. The movie also averaged 1.8 million Adults 25-54.
Sharknado 2 delivered One Billion (yes, with a B) estimated impressions for Sharknado Twitter conversations.
At one point, Sharknado 2 held all top 10 trending topics in the United States. There were more mentions of Sharknado on Twitter than #MileyCyrus on the day of MTV’s 2013 VMAs, #kimye on Kim and Kanye’s wedding day and #transformers4, #thelegomovie, #godzillamovie and #22jumpstreet on each movie’s worldwide premiere day
Sharknado 2 is the most social movie on TV ever and was more social than any episode of Game Of Thrones, The Bachelorette or Survivor.
In addition to the social media storm, Sharknado 2 soared 183 percent among total viewers, 190 percent among Adults 18-49 and 185 percent among Adults 25-54, compared to the first Sharknado movie premiere on July 11, 2013.

ReplyDeleteDamn.
ReplyDeleteAwesome :D
ReplyDeleteSharknado 3 got a go already, so a fourth one is also coming (hopefully followed by a series).
I love trash like this, I have this irrational and weird love for The Asylum <3
Wow. I haven't watched either movie. Are they good? Or are they so bad you can't help but watch?
ReplyDeleteI don't know how to source tweets on here, but TVMoJoe on twitter just gave us some perspective. NCIS drew twice as many viewers as Sharknado 2.
ReplyDeleteI've seen worse SyFy movies.
ReplyDeleteIt's so bad, it's good.
ReplyDeleteSo 1.3 A18-49.
ReplyDeleteThey are so entertaining! The second one was one of the most entertaining movies I've seen in a long time.
ReplyDeleteWhat means literally nothing considering that Sharknado probably had a budget close to 20% of an NCIS episode
ReplyDeleteGood? No. But that's not the point of these movies.
ReplyDeleteThey're ment to be bad, campy and hillariously stupid. If you see a man with a chainsaw slicing up a bad CG shark that is thrown at him the question wether the movie is good or bad becomes obsolete.
If you like bad movies and have a sense for humor: watch it.
If you're into incredibly dark and realistic movies; don't
Talk about a generalization. I loved it and I am not a trash fanatic, stoner or ever been on Reddit and I knew better but it was one of the most entertaining movies I've seen in quite some time.
ReplyDeleteFaith in humanity diminishing...diminishing...gone.
ReplyDeletelol I like dark and realistic movies but I also loved Sharknado for what it was: over the top and ridiculous. Also it was really funnier than 90% of the sitcoms on tv.
ReplyDeleteI still have to see the second one.
seesh...since I watched and enjoyed the movie myself I wouldn't say that I generalized. I pretty much said that this was a movie for people that lacked the stiff stick up their a**es (unlike NCIS....yes, I generalized NOW)
ReplyDeleteIt's more self aware this time, they always knew how insane it was but with part 2 they made it more of a self aware crapfest. Overall I`d say it's better than part 1.
ReplyDeleteDon't say that about NCIS around here. Some people get angry if you suggest only old people watch it (despite the fact the only people I know who watch NCIS in real life are my parents in their friends, all of them 60+).
ReplyDelete"BEHEADS GAME OF THRONES IN SOCIAL ACTIVITY" ... wait, who said that already? Oh yes, Leslie Nielsen in The Naked Gun :-D
ReplyDeleteI know, NCIS seems to be a shipper paradise as well for some reason...
ReplyDeleteI agree no one should be comapring it to NCIS or The Blacklist or any other high rated show,BUT. ..Let me tell you there are a lot of people that watch this show that aren't 50+ and btw the the hell is wrong with people that are 50+?
ReplyDeleteYour first sentence was great. But then you went and blew it by adding the quotes. Why bother even answering him when in fact your agreeing with him/her.
ReplyDeletedid I say that it was watched entirely by people that have long crossed their 50s? And I didn't insituate that anything was wrong with them. You did that.
ReplyDeleteAll I did was give a the sober statement that these shouldn't be compared and divided both programs core audiences. I didn't downgrade either fanbase.
Why shouldn't she bother to answer me?
ReplyDeleteShe was right, NCIS fans on here ARE overly sensitive. I don't like the show but I didn't insult any fanbase, in the end you seem to think that I did though
Did i say entirely by 50 something? No. Maybe you don't realize but yeah, you did downgrade both sides, whether you know it or not.... or believe you did or didn't.
ReplyDeleteWhere did i say she shouldn't? No, sorry,NCIS fans aren't overly sensitive, they are just tired of hearing they are over 50+ when in fact it isn't the case..
ReplyDelete"Why bother even answering him when in fact your agreeing with him/her"
ReplyDeletethere Laura? Is being over 50 taking a toll on you :P (I'm sorry...I had to ^^ don't be mad)
I didn't call all of them over 50 though, I said that it was watched by pretty much the entire 50+ generation. Not meaning that people below 50 couldn't....sigh
Seeing an offense in every slightly negative post requires some talent tbh
LOL!!!! No.i'm not mad and no,it really isn't a toll on me (sorry,i had to) :). I know what you said and how it came across and how it was meant....How else could people that are 50+ generation could possibly take it? :) Maybe when your 50 or 50+ you'll understand,Sigh!....
ReplyDeleteIt probably came across entirely different than I ment it. All I was trying to say is that Sharknado is a niche product that will only appeal to a very small audience while NCIS has it's own larger fanbase that it is catering to.
ReplyDeleteJust like TO is a show that is certainly pandering to a 15+ fanbase (and I`m saying that as a 20 year old TO fan) NCIS is aimed at the 50+ generation (not meaning that it can't be viewed by people way below their 50s. I myself am interested in NCIS: New Orleans for obvious reasons...y'all know why)
Wait...were you being sarcastic there or are you actually over 50? If so you did well in fooling me into thinking that you were way younger (that is to be taken as a compliment)
It's a shame that people skip the amazingly well done tv shows and movies like Hannibal and instead eat stuff up like Sharknado. That's depressing. Please just love bad tv/movies (opinion).
ReplyDeleteFYI, a third film was already greenlit in May
ReplyDeleteI watched about 15 minutes of it to see how bad it was. I geniunely cannot understand how ANYONE can enjoy this. It is, hands down, the worst thing I've EVER seen.
ReplyDeleteEven with a very small audience as you called them they were still able to generate a billion tweets so that says something. I wasn't tweeting myself but I was posting my funny observations and reactions on Facebook though.
ReplyDeleteI watch both Hannibal and Sharknado.
ReplyDeletebwahahahahahaha. I wish I had stock.
ReplyDeleteIts so bad its good. It actually pretty funny too.
ReplyDeleteAs far as bad B movies goes it was actually pretty damn entertaining maybe the most entertaining one ever and I watch a ton of them so I would know. As long as you know what to expect going in it's great. You know you're not gonna get a Oscar worthy movie just a fun way to spend 2 hours on a Wednesday night when not much good programming is on especially in the summer.
ReplyDeleteLet me put it this way, yes,i am older than you.I'm more facing my 'golden years' than ever seeing my 20's or 30's ever again. I'll be facing hearing aids (not needed yet,my hearing is good),the dreaded dentures (Nope, not needed, good teeth, yay!) and of course a slew of meds for an assortment of ailments! So okay i wear glasses and have a bad back (which i got at work in my 30's) so i'm on feel good meds.
ReplyDeleteNope,i wasn't being sarcastic nor trying to fool you,For Real! This is me,i have almost the same likes i had in my 20's. I have, i'm sure the same likes as anyone else here.My body might be headed in the direction of falling apart but my mind isn't... So even tho i wasn't trying to fool you i will take it as a compliment,i hear that all the time!
If i gave you a hard time i apologize,it wasn't my intention. :)
